@TheMonkeyscrodum i kno when gene mills came down to my high school for a clinic he talk about how he raped guys with incredibly high scores i dont remember him talking much about cuvo
i remember going to a national champ camp here in california like two years ago and gene mills was one of the guest instructors...ahh man i have so much respect for him.
Gene Mills practices a brutal ego eviscerating style of wrestling. I love watching this style of wrestling. If you ever saw Wayne Wells wrestle folkstyle you see the same feral attack, relentless, pounding.
Wayne Wells is one of the MOST forgottan GREATEST US wrestlers > He DOMINATED the 163 Olympics, GOLD medalist, - - A physical conditioning test was done on the 1972 Olympic wrestlers, and guess who tested out in BETTER strength and conditioning than GABLE > Wayne Wells. But Gable had a book deal that promoted his great career and was the poster guy of the Iowa wrestling machine, but WELLS was every bit as tough and probably tougher than Gable.
I saw Wayne do several things that were impressive, not just about 24 clap handstand pushups for warm up, but he put me in a butcher and popped a knot in my underarm, man that guy about squeezed the life out of me. But I saw him when he was out of shape come practice and make a young stud cry. that guy is just so strong I would say next to Danny Hodge he was the strongest wrestler I knew about.
I would not argue with this. Wells won three matches on the last day of the 1972 OG tournament and at least the last one (maybe all) was wrestled with torn rib cartilage).
saw Mills, in his 30's, overwiegth, slight gut, wrestle in Midlands finals { toughest tournament in America } against Dan Gables Iowa boy > Greg Randall @ 142 > the midwest crowd was used to Iowa dominating, and Mills being from East coast was unknown, so crowd expected Randal to mop the floor with Mills, but Gable knew who Mills was and sat without moving or saying a word as Mills slaughtered and beat the life out of Randall, the crowd was just freaked out > who is this they ask?
Met Gene at his camp at Syracuse summer '87, (holy s#*t am I THAT old?) anyway, he had a few olympic champs there Art Conorton, Jeff Blatnick 2 others I can't remember. Oh yeah, Mark Kerr wrestled there at the time. Gene is a VERY cool guy.
Notice how Weaver started whimpering towards the end of the match. Mills was staggering.
