I can totaly see myself renting crib somewhere in Idaho, where I would throw a big all night party, just dancing myself to death with this awesome tune .
Busy....I love it. Very 70's with all that wild flute. You heard that sound in every movie of the era. Still good today. I can't remember if we were 'juicing ' it then or getting high. I think a combination of both. Long live the Byrd!!
Has anybody noticed that this song is basically a revamp of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man????", very clever and very funky, but "Watermelon Man" is a basic jazz funk, and even Herbie remade it.
True talent and genius is never missed, even by someone like me who doesn't know music very well. I had the vinyl album "Places and Spaces" in 1975 and loved it. I just found out it featured Donald Byrd, who I recently heard is a famous jazz musician. No wonder I loved the sound - it was Byrd!
In the 1970s, he moved away from his previous hard-bop jazz base and began to record jazz fusion, Jazz-funk, soul-Jazz, and rhythm and blues. Teaming up with the Mizell Brothers, they produced Black Byrd, which was enormously successful and became Blue Note Records' highest-ever selling album. The Mizell Brothers follow-up production albums for Byrd, Places and Spaces, Steppin' Into Tomorrow and Street Lady

I heard this song in a video game; Driver: Parallel Lines. It's one of the best songs in there. :)

This was later sampled in Miles Davis' last CD, "Doo Bop", in a song entitled "High Speed Chase." Thanks for the posting this song.

Takes me back to my days at Howard Univ. Nope, I wasn't there when Donald was. They left the previous semester to go on tour.
