Today Yelm has 6 stop lights, a Safeway, Walmart a new Goodwill, department store 3 hardware stores and several gas stations and eateries, they are coming right along! Oh, a movie theater as well!
@stetsonwalker You guys are developing quite well! :) Haha, it's great to see that at least my friend could enjoy a movie theater while she lives there. Though I don't know if her father will let her to hang out with friends to a public (or private, for that matter) place.
@ScribexScribbler It is easy to think Jarvis is getting all the money if you are led to think it. Back in my day Frank Shrontz was CEO of Boeing. The union would tell everyone his pay was where profits went. Yes he made a hell of a lot of money. But when you added the pay of the Machinists 751 union the figure was beyond imagination! That aside, I will not argue the value of Jarvis's job, but if you compare his pay to that of the total teachers on you will find it is an ice cube to glacier ratio
@stetsonwalker Of course comparing 2,000+ teachers to one superintendent will be such an uneven ratio. It is because of the quantity. Understand that I do not like big time unions at all, in fact, I am (more or less) against unions who's higher ups gets paid much more then they should be. But those higher ups are not the ones striking, it is the bottom ranks--the teachers and also those teachers that are not with the union (you'd think they would be a rare species but I've met quite a lot).
@ScribexScribbler But you see here is the problem with a teacher strike, teachers have no skin in the game in a strike They give the work stoppage, then when the contract settles, they are back in class for the full year (required by law) and suffer no loss of pay as result. The Boeing strikes, they lose money every day they are out, and never get it back!
@stetsonwalker I do not know what teacher strikes you are referring to, but in this strike teachers /are/ gambling their very careers with this. All of their contracts have expired right before school started (before you ask, teachers tried to negotiate since March, District didn't start till May and never actually sat down and listened to the teachers to understand). [continued, sorry, slow typer]
@ScribexScribbler OK show me ONE case where public school teachers have called strike and been locked out and fired. It has never happened in history. They are gambling NOTHING except when the coming school year will end.
@ScribexScribbler Have to hand it to you, you found the extreme case! I studied it a bit, your link did not work, I think it is a more in depth article...
@stetsonwalker I guess YouTube seriously does not like links in general. You've been a pleasure speaking to--much more civilized then people I have talked to on other sites that will not even listen to my comments (perhaps my comments are just too long? Haha!). I'm going to post on your channel in comments the link and see if it works then, if not would it be all right to inbox me your email? That is, if it's okay with you. I've made my statements and you've made yours, and I respect that.
@stetsonwalker So all of them can be fired at once and be quickly replaced. Not to mention that teachers have been agreeing to pay cuts ever since. The taxpayers--which I should assume in this case is the parents--there are many from the community that supports us as well as other supporters from other cities such as Auburn! What's going on here is that teachers have been sitting down at the table, Supt. Jarvis doesn't seem to think this is his top priority--[continued again]
@stetsonwalker --since he's been putting it off, where most of the times, he doesn't show up to the table, other times he's two and a half hours late. He's also been reminded by TWO judges and Washington State GOVERNOR to show up. What does that tell you about him? I'm sorry, but I wholeheartedly believe that this issue will be resolved when Supt. Jarvis decides to actually bargain in good faith. That is, if he has "time" for such.
@ScribexScribbler And when you add to that, the taxpayer has no voice in the negotiation, the taxpayer is the employer. when Boeing negotiates with machinists, they have a representative right there in the room, the "employer" so to speak sits in and has final yes or no!
@stetsonwalker Okay, property owners and voters as well. As far as I'm concerned, most property owners + voters that aren't parents don't seem to care (little of them do and I would assume that they're split in half). For those that do, they speak out online (like you, since I'm not aware if you have any kids/grandchildren attending Tacoma public schools), through interviews and such. Everyone has a voice. Only depends if they take action to be heard. Ex. Students.
@ScribexScribbler Well, speaking for myself, my kids are adults and already through the system, but I m most certainly a taxpayer and property owner. You may want to look upon the TNT editorials online if you think the split is even.
@stetsonwalker Thing is with editorials is that it's all opinion. I had guessed based on experience through sources only (talking to people that had come up to me about the strike and such, which surprisingly most were adults that weren't teachers nor parents). I'm more of a "find out for myself" kind of person. Wow! How old are your kids, if you don't mind me asking? Have you had grandchildren yet?
@ScribexScribbler No grand-kids, my son is 27, mechanic at Browns car care in Yelm, daughter 26, manager of Walmart. I raised them as a single dad! Don't hear that much do ya?
@stetsonwalker Wow! You should remind them to keep the family bloodline going or something, you're not getting any younger! Haha. :) I have a friend who used to attend school in Tacoma that moved in Yelm, I heard that it was a pretty quiet and small community over there, is that true?
No, haha. It's so rare for me to know single dads with kids that age. I've only known some that have kids in grade school, not full-fledged working adults! Yet I've known several single mothers...
@stetsonwalker That's crazy! Just only one stop light? How big exactly is Yelm? Jeez, I can't imagine such a small town with only one grocer. As long as the community is growing for the better to suit the needs of the people. :) Although, my friend seems unsatisfied there since it's still such a small community. Perhaps it's because she doesn't have her old friends back in Tacoma, though.

Wait until you kids start paying the taxes for this crap!
stetsonwalker 5 months ago
@stetsonwalker Haha, some of us already do. Besides, tax doesn't go to the teachers--it goes to the District, mainly, the Supt. Jarvis.
