You're absolutely right! I hate this idea of tyranny by majority, we need tyranny by minority! The rich have proved themselves to be worthy of ruling us all!
really?? medicare for all will reduce the deficit??? are you out of your mind?? this is the problem with congress. not that they dont listen to constituents but that they do. we dont have a democracy. we have a republic which follows a constitution. majority rules would be chaos. more govt spending will not reduce the deficit. we are 1.6 trillion dollars in the hole just for fiscal year 2011. we need enormous cuts to the federal budget. we need capitalism!
Sounds good ! I have to laugh at how badly the far right and some conservative Dem's are being played by the health care lobbyist talking points, ha...?"Socialism", "Death care for granny" , etc. These are scare tactics to keep the status qua for the rich CEOs and their investors . Cont.
I'll take my chances with private corporate insurance companies any day of the week over govt run health care. No govt in all history has given itself more power only to acutally help the people.
Time and time again a govt grows in power and ultimately keeps its thumb on the people so the government stays in power.
Democrats do this right now! They want to keep the welfare checks coming and taxing business. This way business can't create jobs and people are forced to rely on govt.
"Economical and efficient Medicare" hahahahahhh hahahahahhah hahahhahah hahahahh.
Miami, Florida---"On an FBI undercover tape, the fraud was plain to see: a patient came to a South Florida AIDS clinic, signed some papers, walked into an office and was handed $150 in cash. She politely thanked the workers and left, her visit to the doctor finished without receiving any treatment. According to records seized by investigators, the office staff (who [were] assured ofthe patient's cooperation)
used her name to fraudently bill Medicare for a list of expensive treatment and medications.
Law enforcement officials said it's just one of the many widespread, organized, and lucrative schemes to bilk Medicare out of an estimated $60 BILLION A YEAR--a staggering cost borne by American taxpayers". MSNBCdotcom, Blatant Medicare Fraud Costs Taxpayers Billions, 12/11/07.
Medicare annual cost $350 billionish, at least 60 billion of that wasted in fraud. Efficient Medicare doesn't exist.
never an argument on policy from the right wing, always just an anecdote, as if one anecdote were conclusive, and often a suspect one at that. next they will be talking about "Medicare queens".
peace, 60 billion a year isn't an anecdote, that's more like 1 million anecdotes totaling that massive amount in fraud in Medicare according to MSNBC. The story I mentioned by itself is an anecdote, the 60 billion total isn't. That's why I mentioned both. Focus like a laser beam.
nobody is advocating for fraud, except you. the current corporate medical insurance "industry" is INSTITUTIONALIZED fraud. of course fraud must be rooted out and minimized. but how do you do that when the fraud is the system itself? and why is it when progressive public policy is being discussed that right wingers always shout about potential "fraud"?
Medicare for all? Sounds to me like validatation of the big pharma game and getting the tax payers to foot the bill. The only health system that would truly benefit everyone would be a divergence away from the medical industry and it's profit driven motives, to an alternative healthcare system that recognizes that the actual knowledge about healthcare changed in paradigm about 75 years ago. But that paradigm was toward mind in matter and there's no profit in it.
19% of all healthcare premiums now go toward advertising and excecutive pay, etc. And of course, some gets shipped back into the Republicans pockets in Congress.
Unfortunately, a LOT of that money goes back into Democratic pockets in Congress as well. This is a Progressive vs. Conservative issue. I hate calling Reactionaries "Conservatives" can we come up with another name for them?
"Medicare for all"...amazing that the disinformation campaign became so gross that people worried that the government would "take over" Medicare! They should take over any area where the insurance industry is sucking profits and CARE out of the system...I'm from England and, yes, prefer my National Health system where provate, for-profit corporations (insurance companies) are not acting as rich middle-men between us and our health care...if insurance companies lie with propaganda, can we sue?
The issue w/ "private for profit" is Congress bastardizing the concept, removing checks & balances This is why the ins. cos. are unregulated monopolies carving the country among themselves, bleeding the people dry.
Congress goes to DC w/ a promise to work for the people but they make $M off of lobbyists & work for them. Unless we have reform K Street Vampire, removing them from DC, we are doomed to repeat every problem unless we have the full accounting thru a government administered program.

Funny! And, unfortunately, true. :-( The Democrats are more responsible for blocking what the people really want right now than the Republicans are.

If it was so easy to have the conservative republicans to LISTEN and understand, we wouldn't be in this health mess !!!!
