I definitely like the Megan Follows movies best, particularly the portrayal of Marilla by the late, great Colleen Dewhurst. No one else could ever be Marilla to me after seeing Miss Dewhurst in the role.

The black and white version looks good. Gil in that seems awful familiar looking! And it's so hard to count the continuing story as an Anne of Green Gables film. It's nothing like the books! :(

Nice video, but personally I prefer the TV movies with Jonathan Crombie and Megan Follows - they actually looked like the characters in the book, and their acting was excellent. I also enjoyed the Japanese animation - it's very true to the book, almost word for word. The black-and-white version though is...amusing, LOL. No, but it looks pretty bad, and the actors are overacting/trying too hard.

Which proposal? The one in the 2nd movie or the ones in these others? Honestly I can feel Gil's emotions in the 2nd movie and my heart breaks for him just as much as his does...

The first one shown in the 'rejection' segment... the one not from Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel. I agree with you, Gilbert's emotions in the Megan Follows version are so much easier to feel for. The other ones just aren't realistic enough in their acting, you can't feel for the characters at all.

Yes most definitely...Jon Crombie does such an awesome job capturing Gill's emotions and what he would have been thinking/feeling when rejected...

Of course Megan just encapsulated the entire role...

I always had to laugh at the 1930's version where they change up the ending so that Matthew doesn't die and Anne and Gil instantly fall in love. And that the actress legally changed her name to Anne Shirley. LOL

I think this video is great, but it might be a help if you put in years the movies were made and possibly countries that made them as well just for reference.

Very interesting! And you found every production which is amazing. I like Megan's Anne the best--actually everyone in the whole production played their roles so well. Imho the 40's version was stiff, the 70's was too--well, theatrical. The slate scene in the 1985 version makes the most sense as well. Anne picks up Gilbert's slate instead of her own looks more impulsive.

Those animated ones were harsh on Gil's pate; cartoon Anne is violent. :)

The Anne with the blue dress sitting on the ground was harsh too - rejecting him so curtly ("I thought I made that clear") adn then asking if they are still friends. Ridiculous.

It's hard for me to say because I read the books after I saw the first Follow movie, so I think that when I read the books, I saw her as Anne. It is interesting to look at the different interpretations. I wonder if we'll get a new Anne in the future.

I think that the most recent Anne (megan follows?) looked the most like how I imagine Anne as a child - - the BBC Anne looks the most as I imagined her as an adult - - but the 1930's 1940's Anne (wasn't her name also Anne Shirley if I recall?) ACTS the most like how I think Anne would act. What do you think?

Yes, the actress's pseudonym was Dawn O'Day [I don't recall her real name],and then she changed her name to Anne Shirley once she landed this part.

The stiffness of demeanor of the earlier films is probably more like what Anne of the books would act like. I certainly didn't imagine Anne in the books to be as energetic as Megan or the BBC Anne.
