The ride pattern isn't actually just playing on the beats where the snare is not. It actually is kind of a gallop pattern, note note note rest, etc:

Still, you can play most of the song which is more than I can say for myself ATM :)

I guess you can use any cymbals, but i think that the best ones 4 metal r normally the very loud ones. For example, paiste rudes would be more appropriate for metal than paiste traditionals.
