  • The voice of 42nd St.back in the day of The Harris,The Selwyn and other great theaters where you could carry in a six pack and smoke cigarettes while listening to Don sell you on the latest offering from Italy.

  • The vast silence that made up most of this, followed by his closing quote, was perfect genius.

    (I'm reminded of the ad in AdWeek magazine, the week that Mel Blanc died, with all of the WB cartoon characters standing with heads bowed in front of an empty microphone, and the single word caption, "Speechless.")

  • Again, I'm not taking anything away from him. He blazed a trail for voice over artists and got them the respect they deserved. I'm not meaning to offend anyone, his voice just didn't do it for me. Maybe because I wanted to hear the movie's sounds during their trailers. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. Again, I never hated Don LaFontaine, never.

  • I don't think you offended anyone. Remember friends, I made this lil' tribute video because I wanted to acknowledge the passing of a man that I hold in high regard. It doesn't mean everyone has to have the same opinion as I do. The core reality is that Don is gone and for guys like me who live and breathe trailers we feel a loss with his passing. Don't make me throw out the "Can't we all just get along" shit!. LOL

  • He had an awesome voice. Anyone who has done voiceovers (or has tried to) would greatly appreciate his work. I know you don't hate him. It's just that, for the rest of us who greatly respected him and his work, it doesn't sit well with us when someone says his voice was annoying. I know it's your opinion, and you are entitled to it. We just don't share it and would rather not hear it. Thank you, and have a good day.

  • Thank you to DIOTD'd for putting this up. I just learned of it from your page and the responce to Carmie, and I am HEART BROKEN. I am goin' to tell everyone in my immdiate family.

    My dream in the next five years is to be a Voice-Over actor, and Don was *THE* seminal classic voice'd movie trailer artist, and at the same time, MUCH more.

    He is right up there with the late/great Chris Latta (Starscream) and Frank Welker and Peter Cullen, and many others.

    RIP.

  • I´m so sorry...I´m a Portuguese journalist and I use to hear in youtube "the voice", everyday. and at the moment I was doing a list of the best videos of Don Lafontaine.

    I had a great admiration for Mr. Don Lafontaine...RIP. The voice obver will bever be the same...NEVER!!!!!

  • Honestly. Without Don. There would never have been a DIOTD channel on YT. Just wouldn't have happened.

    He was THAT influental and ground-breaking in the field of movie advertising. As everyone here knows..DIOTD is 100% about the advertising so it goes without saying that I feel, as many of you do as well, a great personal loss with the announcement of his passing.

  • Shame he died so young. I actually counted all the seconds of the silent minute in my head FRIDAY THE 13th-style to honor his memory! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 THIRTEEN!
  • Indeed his voice-overs for the first 5 Friday the 13ths in the superior PAramount films cannon will always be remembered.

    If anyone else has the disappointing 2004 "Ultimate Edition" boxset, take a look inside the 5th bonus disc. Originally there was going to be a special feature with Don and film end title maker Dan Curry, but Paramount dropped it at the last minute.

    I e-mailed them and they said that they felt it was too short and of not much interest to hardcore Jason fans. Grr!

  • I hate modern day Paramount. That company is run by total hypocrites. They treat horror fans like dogs, not releasing the uncut DVDs and never giving a proper explanation for it!

    I'm still waiting for a DVD of Four Flies On Grey Velvet...

  • Apparently, Paramount no longer holds the rights to "Four Flies On Grey Velvet". That's not to say that they're not the sole reason for the film NEVER being commercially available on home video and copyright tie-ups throughout the years. I would expect the film to be released to DVD by a company like Blue Underground, Severin or Subversive.
