I acually think it's wierd that Adrain is barrely mentioned in "best-guitarist lists" and stuff. Maybe I've red the wrong ones, but it's strange cause he's really good and original.
@lolzmaster33 It looks like a gold top Les Paul Deluxe with mini humbuckers but it has been modified at the bridge position to fit a full sized humbucker. Hope this helps : )
@spudvader86 Spot on....and he still plays it....saw him using it in Bristow, Va last year. If you go back to older Iron Maiden footage, you can see the guitar's original configuration with two mini-humbuckers before Adrian modified it.
@avv3s0m3 the Les Paul is the first guitar he bought, the one he learned to play on was one he had from Dave Murray, with a 2 inch high string action. So they both learned to play on a shitty guitar, then they bought better ones.
@avv3s0m3 No, not his first guitar overall, the first guitar he bought himself with his own money. His first guitar ever was a Woolworth's Top 20 he got from Dave Murray when he was fifteen.
the one thing that makes me proud to be british, metal isnt full of pomposs retards just wanting to make money, these guys have passion and modesty which i respect
@TheArtificer 40 years or so wouldnt make that much a difference with money, its not like were talking like in the 1800's or something when a dollar was like 20 bucks

@TheGreatGuitarist1 I bought that CD when it came out and it also came with a DVD. =] I think it only came with the DVD when the album was first released, but I'm not sure.
@Sparshq The nobs that compile these lists havn't got a clue. AS' solo on The Tower is not a mega fast or full of technical wizardry but you only have to hear it once to know that Adrian Smith is a genius !
@Sparshq, he should be at leats in top 50!!! people prefer guys that are sellouts or commercial ones, but Adrian is one of the best composers and technical guitar players I',ve ever seen.
@Isilhin Yup. Actually, if you've seen the documentary thing that's on Death on the Road about making the DoD-album, Adrian pulls a very similar joke/reference, and I guess he's "mirroring" it here. :D
remember that it's 275 quid in 1975 money. A 59 Les Paul "only" cost about 300 dollars back in 59, but i guess that would be equal to about 2500 dollars today or something :)
@RickyboyH Wow! But do you know if he got it from a pawnshop? I think I remember hearing him from some video, saying he picked it up at one. Just wondering...
I THINK and I'd have to check that but this is from a bonus DVD that came with a certain edition of 'A Matter of Life and Death' as I do remember seeing this somewhere before.
@svartegraabein i tihnk it is a 1972 les paul delux goldtop as at the time they were produced with mini humbuckers he has also removed the white pickgaurd but has modified it with a dimarzio high distortion
@svartegraabein Unless you have the serial number, it could be quite difficult to find out, but i guess the first LP deluxe's with mini HB's were made in 69 or something?
So I guess the thing he really lost with that guitar was the fact that he had to design it again? I mean he can just buy a new one, but maybe he was emotional attached to it too, just like Steve and hes bass.
Maybe, but Jackson had already designed it for him but he was testing it on tour so he can give feedback to Jackson on how they can improve it, the only reason it was a big deal is because that was the only version of the guitar at the time before they started production, they sell them on a production line now.
so damn good.. but to this video, ive always wanted a gold top, and i would do enything for that one:D long live Smith and Maiden, the best heavy metal band ever..
