Wiiologii: How to play DVD's on your wii + downloads

Also, something very important you failed to mention: Do you have to install the MPlayer off of the SD every time you need to watch a DVD? I realized that the Wii doesn't store the MPlayer in it's console. Or am I missing something here?

I followed your instructions step by step, but it didn't work on my Wii. I was able to install the MPlayer, I see the menue and everything. However, when I attempt to play the DVD, the program simply freezes and doesn't respond, which forces to do hard shutdown of the whole system. Do you know what the issue might be?

HBC is for wiis that have internet....do you have internet connected to your wii?

Otherwise, you can go to wiibrew and directly download the apps you need.

@ bubLrap Be sure your wii can play wii backups first. Check your serial number to be sure you dont have the new chip set. Use mplayer ce 0.76 it works on 4.2U wiis.

I am having a lot of trouble getting this working. I have done exactly as detailed in the video however when I get to the part where I play (3:20 mins in) it just will not work. The wii simply does nothing, Iv left it for over ten miuntes and it just sits there with the mplayer screen frozen.

Any ideas??

To get dvdx on 4.1, simply use the Hackmii installer package, which is also capable of installing Bootmii and Homebrew Channel. Don't bother with the dvdx in HBC.

hey wiiologi, sorry a friend sent you the last msg!, basically, i use the dvdx istaller then load the dvd using mplayer, the initial title screen comes up the writing is still on the screen tho so if i select dvd play it just freezes, bit odd i know!, maybe i'm not using the correct controller??. sorry to be a pain, hope you can help. i'm having the same prob with any games(havn't yet burnt any) but the downloads get to the title screen then i can go no further

@wiiologii i think he means the dvd menu that comes up for movies automatically sometimes, that give the same options as the application on the wii....just that the one on a dvd player you can see bonus features and deletes scenes and stuff...

I think you mean 4.0 version, No it will not work if you have updated your wii to 4.0.

Do you have system menu 3.3 or below? You have to use the patchmii installer option if you have a mod chip. If you have system menu 3.4 I'm sorry there is no work around for this. Uninstall dvdx and reinstall with the patchmii option.

Hello Alsiv10,

Currently there are 2 ways to enjoy the great benefits of the Hombrew Channel. One, by installing a mod chip which is considered a "hardware mod" and two: performing the twilight princess hack which is called a "soft mod" because it uses software exploits to run the hombrew channel. There are certain requirements you must meet in order to install the HBC. If you want a mod chip you will need to find other tuts on this if you want the soft mod then check out my video on this.

Did you use the dvdx for system menu 3.4? what dvd did you try playing? and did you mess with any settings on the dvdx menu?

Yes i did use the dvdx for 3.4, i tried playing Never Back Down Original copy and i didnt mess with any settings.

try to redownload and reinstall both the player and dvdx and try another dvd.

Now it makes sense to me.

If you have system menu 3.4 and a chipped wii it will not work. If you have system menu 3.3 and below it can work.

Try this if you have 3.3 and below

Unistall the current dvdx

Reinstall dvdx BUT this time selelct the "patchmii" install

thats it. It should work let me know.
