@CsquaredR Yes the ligature is the rubber band or wire that goes around each bracket to hold in the main wire and you can get them in colours which don't stain as bad as the clear ones :)
I am also thinking about getting ceramic (clear) ones on the top and metal on the bottom..So im wondering how much did you pay in all with insurance? And how long do you have to have your braces? Thanks!
@NotoriousVick They said around 15 months I paid about $6000 au and get $600 per year back from insurance. It is probly different where you live tho. Good luck :)
So I'm getting braces this Friday, and I have to chose between clear or metal. I know the brackets don't stain but I'm worried about the ligatures... Where exactly are they and how easily can they stain? Also what precautions should I take so they don't stain? Thanks!
@samiraxkhan they are tiny rubber bands that go around each bracket, they get replaced at each appointment so even if they do stain you wont have them on forever. You just have to be careful not to eat currys with lots of spices and rich tomatoes things tend to stain the most also red wine. You may not have to wear all rubber ligs either sometimes they put white wire ones which dont stain on some teeth (I think the ones that need moving the most) . Good luck!
i have those too! my elastics stained yellow at first but then you get to know what foods not to eat so they stay clear (dont eat tomato!! :P ) . i have metal wires instead of elastics in the front and that is much better because they dont stain. good luck and btw the baby is adorable :')
@Shmopy25 Thanks, yeah i have the metal wires in the front too. Its hard coz i eat a fair bit of tomatoey things but i find curry and spices stain them the worst!
I got clear ceramic braces on the top but metal braces on the bottom. The orthodontist said it is better to do this way as I wanted all the brackets to be clear.
Your baby is so cute! I'm getting braces on August 30 after I get my wisdom teeth out. Yours look really good, it makes me feel more confident in getting mine!
@Melovetocheer The actual brackets dont stain but if they use clear rubber ligatures which wrap around each bracket they stain with alot of foods, they used half rubber and some wire ligs on mine and the rubber ones are stained yellow but the wire ones aren't. You can opt for different coloured rubber ligs which dont stain as easily
Hi great video, im getting braces in a few weeks but dont know which to get...which feels better the clear or metal? im 30 so really unsure which ones to get thanks :)
Hi great video, im getting braces in a few weeks but dont know which to get...which feels better the clear or metal? im 30 so really unsure which ones to get thanks :)
@tescoderbyshire Hey, the metal ones "feel" a bit smoother cause they dont stick out as far as the clear ones, but they do stand out more visually so if you want more of a subtle look go for the clear. you do get use to the feel of them but because they stick out more they push your lips out a bit more too which i dont like. But i would still rather clear than metal. Good luck!
Hey can I ask what was your reason to get clear on top but metal on the bottom? Like why not get both of them the same? Just wondering, cause I'm thinking of doing the same thing but I'm just curious
@TB0z1 Hey well it was more my orthos choice thats just what they for most ppl. coz the clear braces stick out further than the metal so when you bite down they would always get in the way and its not as noticable having the metal on the bottom as is on the top teeth.
I just got ceramic braces... I felt really self conscious the first few days cause I was in so much pain. It's almost the 5th day and it's gotten better but now I'm cut up inside my mouth in new places :/ I also have a lisp. I've been trying to practice my "s" sounds but it hurts when I talk or smile too much. Anyone else have a lisp? How long does it take to go away?

i get my ceramic braces on next week - just wondering how bad the pain is once it starts to kick in? im pretty good with handling pain, ive had two extractions and was able to go to school straight after and ive had fillings done without anaestetics (please ignore my spelling lol). braces look great :)
@wastedyouthoftoday The pain isnt that bad, only when you try to chew on things it hurts. It kind of peaks the first few days after you get them on then it gets less and less after that and i was eating normally again after 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. I found getting use to the feel of them under my lips was more annoying than the pain but that was all good after a week or 2 aswell :) Good luck getting them on!
No offense but I've noticed a lot of European people have crooked teeth my mom said that until my Irish family came in our family had perfectly strait teeth without braces it's weird cus I'm part Irish hehe so again no offense it's just an observation your so pretty tho cute kid I wish they stayed like that forever!! (I'm 11)
I will have ceramic braces on 9th of march, i'm so excited but a bit ashamed because i'm adult..... but i beed braces for my cricked teeth and for a malocclusion who causes me heavy headache. Your braces are wonderful.
@bracecast1 Dont be ashamed about them, I was self conscious the first few days but it was only coz i wasnt use to the feel of them when talking and smiling but once you get use to it you forget about it and people will get use to seeing you with them too. Ceramic ones are good cause you dont notice them from far away! You will be fine :)
I know exactly what its like to have braces, it SUX! I use to wake up every morning in pain! All the best and i hope you dont have to have them on as long as me!
The front teeth move fast because they have only one root. If braces are removed the teeth would move right back to where they were. They need to be held in the new position until the bone has a chance to fill into the 'gap' where the tooth used to be (so to speak) Take the example of a cast on a broken arm.
This is the reason why, when, people don't wear their retainers, their teeth shift and go crooked again. Plus, teeth have a strong memory! It's not the gums, but rather, the bone.
@112608ad the metal braces are a lower profile (flatter) and your lower lip is tighter to your teeth so it's more comfortable to have metal braces on the lower. Also, since the ceramic are more expensive most people will opt for clear on top and metal on bottom so this is the best of both worlds and the majority of smiles show the upper teeth! (I worked in an orthodontics for 20 years)
@112608ad Thankyou :) They didnt say how long but im guessing about a year. The metal ones are less obvious on the bottom and like Immbchampion said they dont stick out as much so the top teeth dont hit them when you bite down.
A friend of mine had braces and she was totally obsessed with brushing her teeth and washing her mouth out but she definetly was happy she got them because now she has nice strait teeth.
Like a few of the other people commenting on here, I went through the torture of braces. I almost managed to block out how painful they are. And I had to wear those awful rubber bands that connect the top and bottom brackets. Ugh. My sister had braces and then didn't wear her retainer, so her teeth moved back. But instead of getting braces again, she got the Invisalign trays, which she absolutely loved and recommends to everyone who can get them. I think you look lovely with or without them!
Great Video! I had braces for about 5 years...all through my high school years...after I got them off, I didn't wear my retainer and my teeth shifted again! I had braces for 3 yrs and have had them off for 3 months at the end of this month i have to have them put back on because i didnt wear my retainers, I forgot about the pain till watching this :( now im scared lol! I think they look good on you!
i got clear brackets and they put on glow in the dark ligaments that dont stain. it was either those, or the clear ligaments
