  • soo-ah sdey = Thai "swasdi" (sawatdee), ultimately from Sanskrit "svasti" (= su + asti), well-being. Same root as "swastika". "asti" (to be) is also cognate to Latin "est", German "ist" and English "is". It's all connected, I tells ya!

  • Thanks for uploading!

  • I used "kñom" instead of kńom because English doesn't have that consonant so I used the "ñ" from Spanish ie: "pequeño" (small). It was the closest sound I could find.

  • @tawansweden

Dude, proper Khmer is written with that Khmer alphabet, so there are no ł, ą, ę and so on at all... ;)

You can really write any script of Asian languages? All the kinds of Perso-Arabian script, all the kinds of the Azbuka, all the devanagari and nagari variations? The Tibetan script? The Japanese and Chinese script? The Hebrew script and the Armenian script? The Thai, Gujarati, Tamil and Sinhala, Korean, old Mongolian, Cantonese or the old Aramay and other scripts?

    ;)

  • Yep, thats the romanization.. and when romanized you can write it any way you want, he could have used the czech ň as well and it would change nothing. There may be a frequently used way of romanization, but this doesnt mean that another ways cannot be used.

  • der :)

  • thank you SO MUCH for this, i really wish i could learn khmer but its... impossible? to find someone to teach me in my city

  • Thanks a ton!

  • Hey, great work.

You have the best and easy lesson for American to learn, It i ssimple and easy to follow. Thanks for the great work. Please do more lessons. I enjoyed. Thanks a great deal

  • hey its cool that you have this. losing how to speak khmer is embarassing

  • very well - but 'knom' (I/me) would be better if the pronounciation was spelled 'kyome'

  • It would be better, but there is no standard romanization for Khmer so I just romanize it the way I want to. Plus romanization is a crutch. Just ignore it if you don't like it.

  • I usually see it romanized as K'nyom.

  • I'm cambodian but was never taught khmer and i cant find a rosetta stone for it would another one help at all like Vietnamese or Thai? sorry if its a stupid question

  • Sorry, I've never used rosetta stone. So I can't answer your question.

  • I had errors in some of my videos because I was just starting to learn how to write Khmer. I have a khmer dictionary now so I make less mistakes. If I do then it's just a careless mistake. ^^
