  • man i love that lead guitar tone!

  • What model of Les Paul is that? Two hums, a P90 in the middle with pots to match it. Looks and sounds sweet!

  • Bob Weston rocks. RIP and love live your fine music.

  • God bless you bob. Sadly missed. RIP.

  • Great job on the guitar Bob Weston!!!! I love this. One of the best of Fleetwood Mac.

    Goodbye and R.I.P Bob Weston!

  • Why does she keep her eyes closed?

  • R.I.P Bob ... Good bye !

  • He was a fine player and will always be missed by me and longtime Fleetwood Mac fans..... Rest In Peace, Bob Weston!!!

  • Sorry to hear of Bob Weston's passing - I clearly recall seeing this when it first aired and being blown away by his guitar playing.

  • R.I.P Bob Weston.

  • Bob Welch not Weston.

  • @TheAZBF Bob Weston not Welch has died! RIP Bob.

  • What a pleasure to kick back and listen to this. It's also satisfying to know that this is prelude to the next phase with Buckingham and NIcks.

  • thecoolestdad: I'm 58 & been a FM fan since 1972.

FM (Mick, Christine & John) were originally from England & played blues from 1967 till 1972 when they moved to USA & changed their music style completely.

Their first really big hit was Albatross in 1970. An excellent 1970 UK TV Performance clip is here on Youtube.

I already had (and still have) about 7 albums (vinyls!) before their smashing 1975 self-titled album came out.

    A truly great band.

  • Am I the only one that thinks Bob Welch looks (and sings!) like Hugh Laurie? LOL!

  • I was too young in the early 70's to even know who Fleetwood Mac was.I started listening to them at the Rumors album, after the lineup had changed. In my opinion the lineup of Mick,John,Christine,LIndsey and Stevie was the best lineup of FM.After checking out the older lineups including Bob Welch,I still like what I just mentioned the best.I know some may not agree with me but those that don't are probably older than me and listened to Mac in the early days.I'm 52 now and I like Rumors and newer

  • If there was no video, I would almost say they sound like the Grateful Dead when Donna Godchaux was with the band. Very cool!

  • Who is the guitar player kirwan?

  • @tbls04 That was Bob Weston on guitar.

  • I like all incarnations of FM.........but its always nice to see pre-Buckingham/nicks

  • that's brilliant! yet another reincarntion of the mac! A ++

  • Great song. John McVie is a really under rated Bassist. His Bass is so tight in everything he plays.

  • ah memories...good stuff Maynard...

  • maybe you missed Songbird?

  • Cristine's so Perfect, is'n she.

  • Go MIck!

  • she is so petite (small) just look at her very thin and nothing up ??

  • It all explodes when Buckingham Nicks came aboard... This is bad history folks... nothing to see hear... move along...

  • @waypastprime The problem with that notion is that all the post-Welch members agreed that he (BW) came along and held it together in the critical period between Peter Green and Stevie and Lindsey. 'Mystery to Me' is a good album, and 'Hypnotized' (off that album) is a minor classic. Not to mention - if you're a Christine McVie fan/worshipper, this is pretty cool. Is it as good as 'Rumors,' etc.? No - but that's missing the point. All good endings need a beginning...

  • So this is the pre- Buckingham-Nicks Mac.... huh ! Sounds very 60's ish

  • @lpgft agree - very similar to journey. there is before nix/perry...........and the greatness that happened to both bands after the respective singers arrivals.

  • How is it possible that Christine gets BETTER looking every year?!

Looks, talent and a great classy personality...she is the COMPLETE package!

  • Best guitarist they ever had (Green).

  • @Tessmage - uh, well, that was irrelevant on a Welch and Weston cut.

  • @ACdasher

Not really irrelevant... I was just kind of lamenting his loss from the band in 1970. Whenever I see older clips of FM, it reminds me of their original lineup and how good they were.

Canned Head..Alvin Bichop..Chistopher Band..Buddy Miles..saludos !

  • is that Mr John from Elton, no, no piano. So who is this bossy boy?

  • cool glasses not

  • 73年。過渡期のマック。えーわぁ~( ̄ー ̄ )。んで、コントロールつまみ6つあるで~。

  • what the hell happened to VH1?

  • Who's the other guitar player? Oh OK - Bob Weston. Greeny was a hard act to follow, but Chris's song writing and performance helped a lot. They knew the blues-rock era was ending and adapted very well. John and Mick were smart business men and took a page out of John Mayall's playbook, recruiting good talent.

  • Who's the other guitar player?

  • I gotta tell you that I'd pick Christine over a dozen spacey Stevies in a hot second... maybe it's the British reserve or the centered, focused professionalism or the fact that he's a stone cold fox.... gimme a ticket for an airplane and I'm there... help her tend the gardens.....

  • Dammit. I was born 30 years to late...

  • It's sexy that she could hold all ten maracas at once.

  • hey Bob, Harry Carey called and wants his glasses back...

  • never cared much for the bob welch years in fleetwood mac, fortunately it was short...

  • @HarveyHenkelmann and Britain's Old Grey Whistle Stop and Chicago's Soul Train, and Germany Rockplast. It's great to see vintage performance from all of them on YouTube.

  • don't forget BOB WESTON on lead guitar...

  • This was their best lineup, IMHO.

  • This is a great version of Fleetwood Mac. Is that Bob Weston on guitar? Great songs and performances. I'm sorry I never saw them during this great period of creativity.

  • HEAVY

  • there is nothing like a GIBSON LESPAUL???

  • @sheddski Nothing like this Les Paul! 6 knobs and a P90 bolted into the middle position.

  • Quite right music matty they became 50 times more popular with Nicks Buckingham. The best rhythm section in music and Chrisine were eclipsed by their showmanship and physical appeal . It became so different. But I mised the purity and simplicity of that pre NB sound.

  • Theres certainly no broad appeal in this music..the best was yet to come.

  • At 5:25 you get quintessential Fleetwood Mac.For me this was their best " sound " . I met the band and saw them with Peter Green and later Lindsay and Stevie .It was just that Christine was so " perfect " that when Stevie gently siezed the spotlight and some writing with Lindsay it morphed away from this exquisitely beautiful sound - comments ?

  • The drummer what's up with him, he's spazzin out

  • @lqetvb .....that's Mick Fleetwood just being himself ;-)

  • The studio version of this song, on Mystery to Me, is great!! This? Not so much.

  • Bob Welch; so handsome. No?!

  • @beowulven i actually thought Bob Welch was kinda cool...but those glasses...c'mon! ants and small insects were being fried anywhere within 20 paces of where he was looking !

  • ur Kidding goldwinger!!!its like u would favor a vw beatle instead of a merc!!!

  • hmmmm.......okay its really good

  • I have always preferred Christine McVie's singiing over that of Stevie Nicks.

I really don't care for much of Fleetwood Mac's music after Buckingham and Nicks took over.

  • The Bob Welch period of Fleetwood Mac is seriously underrated.

  • Bob Weston also on guitar in this video....

  • Is that cherry jello in Mick's bass drum??

  • This is mu favorite middle period FM tune...ESPECIALY THE ADDITION OF CRISTINE TO THE STILL BLUESY LEAd guitry

  • No issues with post-75 FM, but at 55 I go back almost to the start. 1st became aware of them in 69. For me, the LPs with Bob Welch's contributions are my favorite iteration. I love Bare Trees & Mystery To Me. Saw this same lineup minus Weston, open for Jefferson Starship in 74 and much of the crowd walked out about 15 minutes into JS' set. That's how good FM, and bad JS were. Not seen here, but Welch is a fair lead guitarist, in his own right, with more jazz than blues sensibilities.

  • What kind of Les Paul is that? 6 knobs!

  • @bradkilgas That is a Les Paul custom with an extra P-90 pick-up set between the two humbuckers and the extra tone and volume controls are above the four regular knobs. He had to have had a lot of routing done on this guitar to accomplish this. The guitar sounds very cool, well, I think anway.

  • To my shame I've never heard this before - utterly epic!

  • why did they get rid of these members and add stevie and lindsey

  • @PAMAROSHOUSE fleetwood mac's lead guitarists suffered from a kind of curse. peter green went mad, another whose name i can't recall joined the children of god cult and bob welch just plain freaked out. lindsey buckingham wasn' able to escape the same bad stuff.

  • @totoaklan

You're right about some kind of curse but Buckingham seems to weathered it better than the others.

  • @bbraat not at all, he nearly strangled stevie nicks after one vicious argument. then they sort of faded away after that.

  • @bbraat i mean lindsey nearly strangled stevie to death.

  • @totoaklan Jeremy Spencer was the one who joined COG. Later, Danny Kirwan went nuts before a show and wouldn't go on stage, so Mick fired him. Bob Weston (playing lead here) was hired to replace Kirwan, and later fired for having an affair with Mick's wife. When Weston joined, Kirwan (so it is claimed) told him, "Good luck. You're going to need it."

  • That fool you are talking about is Mick Fleetwood looks like the kids were out last night and posting on Youtube. tonusaitis is right there is a lot of people out there that don't know there was a FM b4 Stevie and Lindsey. This is an awesome cut thanks for posting it.

  • A nice taste of the pre-Buckingham/Nicks era of this long lived act. Their sound in this clip is far more blues based then what they became best known for later on.

  • That fool spazzes out while he drums.

  • Bob Welch and Bob Weston should be in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame with

all the other members (1967- on). They were snubbed by the hall.

  • This was some damn cool footage, very nice to see this! And though it was a bit earlier, "Bare Trees" is definitely one of my favorite FM albums. Christine was just so utterly beautiful.......

  • I'll bet only the real hardcore FM fans know anything about this lineup.

  • yuk

  • Thank you for posting this. I think I missed this one.

  • Can not understand anyone stood still I move always I saw this gig

  • It's Charles Nelson Riley!

  • Bob Welch

  • Who wouldn't fall in love with Christie McVie?!

  • @minggnim : You're absolutely right! :-)

  • @minggnim Anyone who doesn't like giant noses.

  • @jabronie1000 ...so you're saying someone extremely shallow!

  • @minggnim I don't know about extremely. I think it's a general thing to avoid chicks with giant honkers. I think she ended up getting a nose job, so we're good.

  • @minggnim I don't think she's that hot and she isn't that great of a pianist either so what's the big deal?

  • @kingofallwhites Because she's a lyricist, composer, singer, musician and intelligent...and those qualities make her beautiful to me. And she ain't that bad lookin' either!!

  • @minggnim - i'm not big on her singing - but, damn! her speaking voice is SEXY!

  • @minggnim -SERIOUSLY!, I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH HER!....

  • that is one highly modified lespaul

  • Wow! Bob Weston's playing is fabulous!

  • Cool hip hop beat at the beginning.

  • Must have been one of Bob Weston's last appearances with Mac. He was booted out of the band during the tour to promote 'Mystery to Me' for fooling 'round with Mick Fleetwood's beautiful wife, Jenny Boyd.

  • Man! It's easy to forget just how good this line up of FM was. Every incarnation of FM was fantastic - each one bringing something that the others didn't. Truly one of the great bands.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Oh, & by the way,fab band!

  • @ FloopyProductions

stevie ain't in the band yet

  • stevie nicks could rip it up

  • Hey look! Christine invented the original shake weight!

  • Christine looks great, awesome performance.

  • Amusing that people don't know that their commenting on the 2 musicians that are the band and don't know it, they have gone through many changes Fleetwood and Mac can't be mistaken.

  • He Du bist coool. Ist das gut ...

Soo gut nie mehr wieder leider ...

  • Surprised they went with Miles Away as opposed to Hypnotized, Forever, or Emerald Eyes, all much better single material.

  • DEF got to include Bob Weston in the credits since it's really his guitar work that makes this song. classic Bob Weston sound.

  • THIS IS HEAVY

  • "Yes, I need some glasses that make me look nerdy. REAL NERDY. I'm going to be on The Midnight Special tonight and I'm going for the dweeb look."

  • ON the Midnight Special or Saturday Night Live (possibly even In Concert) there was a guest with a pony tail who did two songs. One of them had the refrain "Woah, America, I wanna love you, please be true to meeeee". The other song was more fast pace, with a refrain that went something like "Are ya livin' in Israel", not sure of the wording. Sound familiar to anyone?

  • I didn't know Stevie had joined in 1973.

  • @jwmellott Never Mind== I guess she hadn't

  • @jwmellott your j/k right?

  • @rwk1983 About Stevie--- I realized early on that it was Christine. I had just watched a Stevie Nicks video and thought I was being directed to another one.

  • Yes, I remember the great maraca shortage of '73.

  • Bare Trees.. the best of FM albums....

  • @kenn5miw - if you are going to make a comment know what you are talking about - the so called guy playing the drums IS MICK FLEETWOOD! - he is just a whole lot younger then.

  • Christine McVie is uniquely hot and doesn't just play Maracas silly. She writes songs and plays the keyboard. Stevie Nicks plays the tambourine. Not on this clip. Christine McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Bob Weston made the band. The guy playing drums must be higher than Keith Moon.

  • WOW!...Two Bobs...Two Mac's..and a Mick

and Bob Weston was no second fiddle guitarist either...

  • Got to love the way Christine shakes it...her 6 Maracas that is.

  • @pvrdvd123 Yes, although I know Stevie was the true hottie, Christine always seemed attractive to me in an un-assuming way - basically, a classy lady.

  • @greenwich1754

You nailed it right on the head! I refer to them as the classy lady and the dish!

  • You can definintely hear the sound from this era come through into the Buckingham/Nicks lineup and my favourite, the "Fleetwood Mac" album.

  • "Good" does not adequately describe Westons guitar playing, and Christines' vocals for that matter. I prefer the term "fucking-A"! (Sorry for the cursing)

  • @shack8110 ...well I've tried my best, but it may not be enough, and times have been so tough that I can't tell you

  • I really love the sound of that guitar!!

  • Hey, Mick...would you like another bump?

  • This a very different Fleetwood Mac than what we're used to. But Mick is still a complete weirdo.

  • I was going on 14 years old when "Then Play On" came out... A good friend turned me on to it and I've been hooked on Fleetwood Mac since! For me the "best" years were the Kerwin/Weston/Welch years. Bare Trees and Mystery to Me, Kiln House and Future Games. After THAT, they were always good for a "hit"... Buckingham/Nicks fit in well...

Thanks for Posting ! Great memories...!

  • I've never seen a guitar with six full-size knobs before. Is Bob Weston compensating? For a while Eddie van Halen only had one.

  • @dcs002 don't know much about guitars there dcs, do ya? Or the electronics in them. What a shame.

  • @1999wharfrat Lol! Oh grow up dude! I build guitars. (I'm guessing Weston has a volume & tone for each pickup.) I also have a gig at our science museum demonstrating how guitar electronics work (string induction, coil induction, tone caps, the works). I'm just saying his guitar looks rather crowded with all those knobs. I think it's likely that I know quite a bit more about guitars and their electronics than you. I also think you took a silly comment of mine as an excuse to try and one-up me.

  • The transitional Fleetwood mac...LOL..

  • @onlyjoetee Fleetwood MacBob(s).

  • @dcs002 these people should never have been there, they threw themselves out in time for the classic lineup to emerge..

  • @onlyjoetee Classic line-up? You ought to spend a few minutes looking at and listening to the true classic line up: Fleetwood, McVie, Green, Kirwin, Spencer. The music from '75 on is good but pop. This lineup is much more rock than post '75. To each their own.

  • @1999wharfrat The Peter Green line up had the potential to be great, they were just learning the blues, all the guitar players fucking choked or went mad or whatever the fuck, that aint classic!they didnt fulfil their potential! The "classic" Mac line up is the one that recorded rumours etc, with Stevie/Lindsay/Christine/John and Mick.THAT is the lineup that made the magic!

  • one must hand to Bob Weston...This was when there were two Bobs, two Mac's, & a Mic...

  • Great to hear Bob Weston's fine playing over John and Mick's solid backup in 'Miles Away' and 'Believe Me' -- well worth the wait. Actually, Bob Weston was the last of the traditional Les Paul lead players for Fleetwood Mac, and doesn't disappoint. The appearance of Rob Welch marked a real turning point for the band, opening the door for Buckingham/Nicks and much deserved success, however I still mourn the days of Peter and Danny. Great mix, listen to how the pros used to do it, and do it LIVE.

  • Its good and I like it and all, but I must say Thank God Mick Fleetwood found Lindsey and Stevie....

  • so good........

  • Nice to see some other folks mention "Mystery to Me", my favorite album of all time. I listen to it once every five years or so and it always energizes me like the first time.

  • Wow.....Lindsey certainly IMPROVED with age - he looks much better by '79 !!

He looks a right Dork Nerdy Pants on here.

Hasn't quite perfected that American Twang yet.

Better hurry up Nerd Boy - You're never gonna pull Stevie like that

  • This album [Mystery To Me] certainly was interesting. I agree with some others here; this clip is worth listening to a few times at least. Nice!

  • "Bare Trees" was another great album from the "Bob Welch" period.

  • @Revolution1117 not to mention danny kirwan. very good album, great lineup.

  • not to mention danny kirwan. very good album, great lineup.

  • i have seen this dozens of times on youtube cant get enough

  • Well, sad to say it's pretty obvious why this band wasn't the great Top 40 hit machine that Fleetwood Mac was in the late 70s. Besides Christine McVie, they're homely looking nerds. No offense, but you know that's how the industry works.

  • Just the best damn artists ever.

  • LOVE EARLY FLEETWOOD MAC. EXCELLENT.

  • shave that stash

  • This is the most interesting FM line up in my opinion. Bob Welch was extremely under-rated as a writer and leader.

  • This is the most interesting FM line up in my opinion. Bob Welch was extremely under-rated as a writer and leader.

  • KIRWAN was Angel

  • I LOVE this line up of FLEETWOOD MAC, who made my all-time favorite FM album, MYSTERY TO ME. Why not include the name of Bob Weston in the credits? He is the handsome guitar player in white, and I will always cherish his part in this wonderful band. He was ousted as he fell in love with and had an affair with Fleetwood's wife. Such is life. Bob Welch was and is a treasure! LOVE his contributions to this great band. So we got the two Bob's, Christine, John and Mick. Look how intense Mick is!!!

  • @ChrisOtheBigC

yeah, it's surprising that cmcviefan57 completely omitted Bob Weston's name in the video description when he's the one stealing the show in this clip!

  • @ChrisOtheBigC Mick is always intense!

  • @ChrisOtheBigC - Chris you are SO right. this is my favorite all time FMac album too. I remember so well when it came out. A friend and I listened to it on a trip to the Outer Banks, NC in the summer of 73. you are also correct, why not include bob weston in the credits. he was awesome in this set. not many bands sounded very good on MS, but this reincarnation of FMac sounds outstanding. Thanks for uploading CMCVIEFAN57!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

  • @ChrisOtheBigC I didn't know that; that's kind of ironic given Mick's indiscretions. I love Mystery too.

  • I prefer the stuff with Buddy Guy, Peter Green and the Chicago Blues scene...Don't blame Peter a bit for quitting when they chose to go pop...I do agree though, All FM is good, just some better than the rest.

  • @ScottAmberg Peter Green didn't quit FLEETWOOD MAC because they went pop. He left the band because he had serious mental, spiritual and personal issues at the time.

  • always loved Fleetwood mac. even b4 SLN and BUCKINGHAM entered the group.. Love to see this old clip.. shear talent at its roots.. Great Post.. Great old history.. and grooven on the sound..
