The ball isn't sad. Tom Hanks losing the ball is. Your logic sucks. Micheal Jackson isn't sad, but him dying is. (sort of)

The point is, the ball was the manifestation of his loneliness on the island. You'd be pretty upset too if your only companion, the very thing that kept you sane over the years was lost. That scene is one of the best moments in film of all time.

OK I watched it again last night. Something always bothered me about this movie that ruins the entire ending. Tom Hanks NEVER asked his buddy "Did Kelly get married after so much time had passed"? And why in the world would his buddy that went out to fly him back to Mempphis not go over that fact in detail instead of just skimming over the fact that "Kelly had to let you go". I mean, when Chuck obviously did not grasp what that meant, would any friend let him be devastated by it at the hub?
