@Man1cmanMario It wasn't sooner, that's why it never made sense. Other M came after Super Metroid, making it the latest, chronologically, in the Metroid timeline, just before Metroid Fusion. If it had been much earlier, say, when she faces Ridley for the first time since he killed her family, I wouldn't have hated it so much. Since she's killed him for the bazillionth time already, she'd have been past her post-traumatic fears and have faced him like an annoying nemesis instead.

And she only killed Ridley once, according to Sakamoto. Apparently he was only defeated at Zebes the first time. You also have to consider the fact that apparently Other M ignores the Prime Trilogy (heartbreaker, I know).

Therefore, He was only FINALLY killed in Super Metroid in Sakamoto's mind.

Given, Team Ninja's acrobatic and combat portrayal of Samus was pretty awesome, but I simply cannot forgive the gawdawful narration, writing, and scripting. I play games for the STORY, with the control, gimmicks, and eyecandy as an added bonus. Other M failed in what was probably the most important aspect of a game (in my opinion) and could not be saved even by its other aspects.

Sorry, it's just my own opinion.

Regardless though, this is SSB, and this is a great rendition of Brinstar's theme. I still remember getting the fully powered suit in Zero Mission and this theme took over the gameplay... so triumphant... Samus was so OP at that point. Nothing like it!

A few points regarding Samus' breakdown in Other M:

1. The scene was reviewed by a psychologist who said the breakdown was indicative of PTSD.

2. Samus was diagnosed with PTSD in the official Metroid manga.

3. Yoshio Sakamoto says he does not consider the Prime series to be canon.

With this in mind, Samus has faced Ridley twice: in Metroid and Super Metroid. The first time only Torian exploded with Mother Brain, but the second time the entire planet was exploded along with his body.
