  • No importa como te salgan los pedales...es un ejercicio del labio, no de la trompeta. Lo que importa es la vibracion del labio. Si el doble do pedal te sale con las 3 valvulas, perfecto. Es un ejercicio...NO ES MUSICA

  • In just a few minutes of trying this i noticed easier high notes

  • I try to play it but I usually pause to set my embouchure. Is that considered cheating?

  • A normal trumpet tutor can teach about 3-24 students in a year. This guy? He can teach millions.

  • @BillandBubby Sera por algo!!!!

  • "No matter how you leave the pedals ... is an exercise of the lip, not the trumpet. What matters is the vibration of the lip. If the two do you pedal comes with 3 valves, perfect. It is an exercise ... NOT MUSIC"

Pedal C (the note below middle c) does not need to be played with false fingering. It is a REAL note! It is the fundamental pitch of the openly fingered series. Playing this note with false fingerings won't make for good sound or music, but learning the way to do it can & will.

  • Some of the best trumpet lessons I've gotten! This has helped my range so much than I expected, thank you

  • I'm playing the pedal c open like you said, but is it bad if my lips sort of "flip out" too much when I play that note? Because i'm finding it difficult to play a pedal c to a middle c without adjusting my lips(since they stick out so much)

    thanks

  • @theDarthh im having the same problem if you get answer will you message me

  • What are some exercises available that you recommend to help get to the point to play pedal C?

  • merci. bravo!!!!

  • great tips charlie!! thanks....

  • When i try it open i sound like you when u use false fingering

  • I sound they way you sound when i attempt to approach that low Bb is that normal or whqt am i doing?

  • Thanks for your clear example!

  • Hey Charlie My teacher Mr. Santag mentioned you and showed me one of your videos he said you were one of his students in the 90s and won some kind of award for trumpet at Julliard your freshman year there. Nice!

  • I've really been enjoying watching your videos. You are truly a fine musician, and I might add a master educator. Hearing you struggle on some of these pedal tones, even though I know you can play so beautifully, gives me hope! I sometimes listen to the sounds I make and get discouraged, but it's nice to know that everyone is human and experiences the same "ugliness" in the pursuit of beauty. Thank you so much for this.

  • lol this is so easy - im no beginnger come to the double c and im playing since 4 years

  • I get a pedal G without pressing anything and it sounds quite nice, but the pedal C won't come out. Any advice?

  • Thanks Charlie, your explanation has help me out an great deal. Playing pedals has beginning to open my sound, and also learning how close the low an high register are.

  • cool

  • I play my pedal C's with all 3 valves. I've tried to play it open and the sound that comes out Is about an A below pedal C. Why is that the pitch I am getting when I try to play pedal C open?

  • Thanks for your message. When attempting to play pedal C at first, if done correctly, it is common for a Bb or A to come out. Chances are that he aperture is just a bit too open and you need to learn to adjust it until the pitch locks in. Pedals require a lot of air, but don't open the aperture too much or pitch suffers (just like the normal range of the trumpet). think of a clutch and gas pedal. When opening the clutch, you must supply enough gas otherwise the car stops. Don't open too much!

  • @hotlipsporter

man how you can do that, i don´t have the pedal C, i don´t know how, please tell me momething about

    THANKS!

  • you rock

  • Yo Charlie, this vid is really really cool. It's definitley helped me adapt my thinking about range and registers. And I have found that once you get used to playing the octaves slurs in and out of the pedal register, you start to realise how close together everything actually is. My only question to you is, why do you not count double pedal C as part of the C harmonic series?

  • Hey Uruhuru! Thanks for your comment. Actually Double Pedal C is not part of the real harmonic series. The harmonic series starts with an octave (from Pedal C to Middle C below the staff), then a fifth, then a fourth, then a major third, then a minor third, etc. The harmonic series is a natural progression of harmonics which is present in every notes we hear. They are even present in your own voice! Check out some throat singers.

  • @hotlipsporter Monet?

  • @suazobomber @hotlipsporter I try many time with many mouthpieces, only monette can easy to play pedal C in tune.

  • those pedal tones are STRONG AS HECK !!!

  • It's like Vizzutti's double tonging staccato but slurred... =O
