Jeffs Mom You must be so proud and so sad I wish he was here and I didnt even know him just love his voice. Thank God he lives on in his music and that vibe he had and has xx
I love how songs keep the emotions and passion for eternity. What he puts across with that voice of his, man I almost want to burst into tears. May these beautiful feelings live on :)
i'm in love with him and i don't even know him... i can't explain what his voice does to me. i think it's just beyond words! Jeff is definitley one of the greatest artists this world ever known,i'm glad he shared some of his rare talent with us before he passed away...
This music is so of its time, yet forward looking. So nineties, yet, today. This sounds as good as it did 17 years ago. I'm sure it'll sound as relevant in another 17 years. Stunning, stunning song and artist. Jeff Buckley is dearly missed.
Hey guys, if you have a spare minute could you check out some of my covers on my channel and give some feedback. It sucks to have to advertise like this but it seems like the only way to get exposure. Thanks if you do check it out...
From biography: Jeff apparently hated having to do this music video--& if you look at the last few seconds, when he's glaring at the camera--that was for real >_< . . .yeah, superfan
@mojopin93 I'm not a hundred percent sure about this. I have strong inclinations that this video is an allegory of an allegory - an uptake on Plato's 'The Cave'. The video itself is a supreme piece of artistry that shouldn't be taken on face value.
I could attempt to explain the symbolism but a single Youtube comment (or several) wouldn't suffice.
@owenhunt I understand what you mean but, but no it's not. In Merri Cyr's Jeff bio she talked about how pissed he was at her (who i believe played a major role in the production) and generally at having to do the music video ~ not sure why though
@mojopin93 Just because the concept of a music video sailed against Jeff's every sensibility doesn't mean he shied away from the task of creating some worthwhile to fling into the cesspit of MTV culture.
WoW! To the person that called me a pussy on my comment about my grandmother passing you are a complete scumbag! The rest of you were very nice and thank you. Merry Christmas everybody....except for the 2 year old that left that nasty comment....you eat shit!
@wesdan126 good for you, congradulations, you posted something sad, and now people on youtube feel sorry for you! man, you just got everything going for you! want a cookie for your incredible impact on youtube history? you inspire me man! sooooooooo awsome. i just wish i could swap lives with you, that is how cool you are. your sooooooo special!!!!! and your feelings are hurt! i feel for you man, sometimes MY feelings get hurt too! god you inspire me, your so awsome. revolutionary
He could tell a story with absolute feeling and make you believe it. This just wasn't a song. It is truly beautiful and such a waste of a very talented life.
the pissed off look he gives at the end is genuine...he really didnt want to do the video. he hated commercial world, at the same time as wanting to connect with everyone in it.
This is a voice you just keep on coming back to... just like Tim's, who brought me here a while ago. They each have the knack to get you high and excited or quiet and thoughtful or tearful...
Their connection with their listeners is ethereal.
This video is so randomly 90's that it cracks me up. Reminds me of how much I love this man and his passionate music. Reminds me too of when I'd see him live as a young'un. My friends lusted after Jeff and I was enamored with his bassist's thighs .....
Amazing JB song. Completely horrid, uncreative, stodk-photo-worthy video. It's a shame that Jeff's record label didn't hire a real professional to represent his artistry better.
@rcameront 80's bands all used to use random imagery in music videos to allow for focus on the song. Besides, if you can't see meaning behind some of the imagery used here then you won't have searched hard enough.
@owenhunt i know. your reply says it all.."80's"..."random"..."search hard enough"...all elements of poor visual work. i am extremely familiar with the meaning of jeff's songs, which amplifies how horrid the video is. did you go to film school at nyu or usc? just curious.
@rcameront I most certainly haven't attended either. I'm not saying this video is awash with imagery but certain sequences do amplify messages. Tighe rubbing his eyes denotes an awakening; a prevalent theme all through Jeff's work. Jeff's caressing of the moon signifies acknowledgement of how relationships wash into, and out of, your life just like the moon turns the tides; the caress is important as it shows he is at peace with this knowledge.
@rcameront ...that I wouldn't change a few things. For example, the image of flowers blooming and then wilting shows the fragility of human relationships. I would change this metaphor and use a baby's cot in a darkened corner as the last shot, signifying that losing your other half leaves you as alone as when you entered this world.
You get the jist. I don't think the video is a complete vacuum. :)
He's just so... Raw... It amazes me. Even his videos are just amazing. I Cried when you died, and wished with all my heart for it all to be a joke, and you come out with more of your AMAZING music. But, this is our last Goodbye.
@SagenBrooke . Hi, My name is Ian Brooke. Just read your comments.. Grace is my absolute favourite album of all time. Every song, including this one emotes the entire emotional spectrum, for me. It still pains me to think he (and his band) only made one official album, but it proves you don't need longevitiy in the music business to become a legend. Jeff Buckley made a bigger impact on music than all these disposeable wannabe's of the 00's. Best wishes, Sagen Brooke.
the listener is just as responsible as you say. But musicians are not, and have never been gods- despite what people may have alluded to in Rolling Stone magazine. Like regular people, some of them are very good at what they do, but just like everything else- many/most of them are on or below par. The quality of music and listener hasn't changed, just like the quality of life hasn't changed. The quantity of people documenting/consuming it, however, has- hence the "change".
This song takes me back to my senior year of high school. I loved it then, so full of emotion and longing. I've never seen the video, that's how old school it was, back in the 90's when videos didn't overshadow the music. It's beautiful and tragic and I love my radio station for playing it today!
That he died so young, for no apparent reason with only one album under his belt still makes me sad. I've never known a time in which he was alive, and I hate that.
@lladsbid He was there because he had swim there before and decided to take a dip before his members arrived, and he drowned because a tugboat passed by and it hit him on the head leaving him unconscious and then he drowned. What's mysterious about something that you can even find in wikipedia?
@Ogumomaru okay, one, he waded in fully dressed for no apparent reason (hence my use of that term) which is fairly odd and no real reason has ever been given for why. Two, if anything, he was pulled under in the wake of the boat, not hit on the head. Even that, though is just a theory and the real reason he drowned has, again, never been fully explained. His death is, on the whole, more than a little odd and very much shrouded in mystery. its not suspicious, it just doesn't make any sense.
@lladsbid Jeff's manager, Dave Lory, thinks he left his boots on because there were rocks/glass in the riverbed. The fully dressed part is kind of strange ... but he was known to live in the moment. I've read that two boats went by, in fairly quick succession: a barge and a tug. It could have just been an extremely bad set of circumstances ...
@imkeylime Of course a family is not obliged by law to make the contents of the coroner's report known to the public. I certainly wouldn't if that had been my son and he had died of something other than drowning. In any case, no amount of speculation will reveal the truth. ;)
jeff looks like somebody who havent leave his room for a long long time,, and you know, it was probably that.... ..isolation suck, but it pays.... god bless you jeff...
I would venture to say Jeff Buckley is all I ever needed. There's others I really love but Jeff is the most beautiful musical being to ever sing a tune.
I know your probably not going to read this but I'm writing it anyway.I'm a singer/songwriter from Ireland,I know I'm one of millions out there but as Ireland is such a small place the talent that comes from here is rarely recognised.I feel I'm writing real songs that are from my own personal experiences. So if you just take a minute out of your day to view my videos and maybe subscribe, you really dont understand how much this could help me. All I want is for honest music to be recognised! Thanks
A movie is coming out next year that started filming in Aug. in New York starring Penn Badgley as J. Buckley, who currently is in Margin Call. I might have heard of Buckley once with Hallelujah briefly, so I listened to this song and fell in love. So, so sad that he is gone and so, so talented.... His sound, his writing, so heart-filled and soulful. Just my opinion, (as I can somewhat relate) that he was "fractured" maybe from his father not being in his life and then dying. God Bless.
Dont say too many bad things about Beiber or Gaga. It could always get worse. Plus you don,t want an army of teenie-boppers ready to assasinate you. Remember all those death threats?
buy guys, check out another amaziing version of this song, and no.. this time it's not "another boy who think he can sing and pich the high notes".. it's really good!!
holy shit! i had no freaking clue that jeff buckley is dead! wow i love his music but did not know that. and now i feel like a moron. that's why he looks so young in all these videos - because they were 10+ yrs ago! damn i am an idiot
Movie is f'n stupid and are you just as stupid to have Handler try and act. Im gonna look at who directed and produced this and I am gonna personally come to your door and slap you with a white glove.
I came to this looking for Jeff Buckleys Last Goodbye so you can understand how victimized I feel. And Reese...shame on you!! Have a good day.
Last winter I was driving on the expressway and I decided to call my Grandmother because she was sick and in the hospital, not doing well at all. I talked to her for a little bit and told her how much I loved her and said goodbye. When I hung up the phone, I turned up the radio and this song was playing.....I knew right then and there that it was gonna be the last time I talked to her and it was. I love you Grandma Bonita...this song always makes me think of that night. ♥
@wesdan126 I had the same expierence with my Grandmother not this song but another.... I am glad that you shared that particular moment with your Grandmother, Jeff and Yourself.... I hope all is well with her passing... I know its hard! I think I needed to read your post today!
@wesdan126 All I have to say, is I've read some comments people were saying to you and they were really rude and wrong. :L I just thought I'd let you know that if she had to go, it's good that it was with Jeff Buckley singing. <3 His music is beautiful.
You have no idea how many musicians out there could change the world today if it wasn't for the audience... Today music is more a tool of partying than listening, the audience has gotten more and more stupid! They don't appreciate the work as much as the result. It's fuckin sad that a man can pour blood, sweat and tears into a piece of art and get nothing in return because the medias focus is on the attitude and life of whoever puts out music, and unless you'll suck a dick, you wont go nowhere
@oliverandm Unfortunately things have been headed in that direction for a long time. In the late '70s Roger Waters was inspired to write Pink Floyd's "The Wall" after he spit on an intoxicated fan who was screaming throughout a concert.
@oliverandm One thing that Youtube and social networking has done though is show how many talented people there actually are out there, in addition to all the riff-Raff. You just gotta look a little deeper than the radio stations.
@oliverandm buddy today's music is exactly .... and i mean exactly the same as it was 80 years ago .... the only difference is that today you are exposed to 99.9999% more than the bloke would have been the 80 years ago .. hence the diff .... as for the sucking dick part i agree in full however that isnt new either ... jeez when you think about it ... Elvis had to "suck dick" at some stage (i don't mean literally) but one way or another to achieve what he has ...
I disagree - don't misunderstand me, you seem like a nice fella, but music today and music 10 years ago wasn't the same. Today all this shallow "10 minute made" music rule the front of your Itunes and stores. This is also the reason why i always find respect in most musicians that wont bow under to mainstream pressure - or why i love world music! I don't mean to be arrogant, but music is poetry and poetry comes from the heart, not greed and love for the $. But it's all taste i guess
@oliverandm Indeed. But the market for music has changed substantially in the last 10 years. Digital theft and online production have both reduced what were "mountains" to "molehills" (please pardon the turn.) and allowed a new panel for musical critique; people who have no claim to fame, other than wanton acts of strangeness, are elevated to unprecedented and ridiculous social-status. And the media it is all presented upon is simply turned on or off without required wait period.
@oliverandm I just hope you understand where i am coming from as well ... as my angle is never most liked however is the unfortunate and ugly truth.... people are a nostalgic species to the bone i think.... just think 10 years ago .... the same people were saying today's music (80"s) is not what it used to be 10 yrs ago ..... (some of the best songs of all time were written on that pretext" hence.... my personal opinion is that real "modern" music was annihilated somewhere around the late 70's
This was the last song I played to someone when we knew it was over between us and it was the last time we were meeting. We didn't want to admit, but the song said it all. Brings back flashbacks of that day.
@hurrdurrbleh If you haven't seen the "Grace Around the World" DVD set that came out in 2009, you should buy it. It's the next best thing to seeing him live. Your local music store probably has it, and it's usually in stock at Best Buy and on Amazon etc. I bought it as soon as it came out, and it didn't leave my DVD player for weeks. I immediately went back and bought copies for my son and two of my friends who appreciate good music. Peace.

I came to this looking for Jeff Buckleys Last Goodbye so you can understand how victimized I feel. And Reese...shame on you!! Have a good day.

He was just like his songs. Like a dream. Sweet, sometimes terrific, dark, mute but loud and immortal. It's like he would sing just for me.
As long as I can listen to his music, he will stay alive.

You have no idea how many musicians out there could change the world today if it wasn't for the audience... Today music is more a tool of partying than listening, the audience has gotten more and more stupid! They don't appreciate the work as much as the result. It's fuckin sad that a man can pour blood, sweat and tears into a piece of art and get nothing in return because the medias focus is on the attitude and life of whoever puts out music, and unless you'll suck a dick, you wont go nowhere
oliverandm 5 months ago 77
@oliverandm Unfortunately things have been headed in that direction for a long time. In the late '70s Roger Waters was inspired to write Pink Floyd's "The Wall" after he spit on an intoxicated fan who was screaming throughout a concert.

@oliverandm first time ive seen someone on youtube explain exactly what the music industry is.... theres still hope i see!!
randallway95 3 months ago
@oliverandm One thing that Youtube and social networking has done though is show how many talented people there actually are out there, in addition to all the riff-Raff. You just gotta look a little deeper than the radio stations.
wuzcloopin 3 months ago 4
@oliverandm Mr. Buckley lived the lyrics.... must live them to appreciate!!! He "is" the best!
DarbRox 3 months ago 2
@oliverandm buddy today's music is exactly .... and i mean exactly the same as it was 80 years ago .... the only difference is that today you are exposed to 99.9999% more than the bloke would have been the 80 years ago .. hence the diff .... as for the sucking dick part i agree in full however that isnt new either ... jeez when you think about it ... Elvis had to "suck dick" at some stage (i don't mean literally) but one way or another to achieve what he has ...
Bozzy83 3 months ago in playlist JEFF BUCKLEY
@Bozzy83
But it's all taste i guess
oliverandm 3 months ago
@oliverandm Indeed. But the market for music has changed substantially in the last 10 years. Digital theft and online production have both reduced what were "mountains" to "molehills" (please pardon the turn.) and allowed a new panel for musical critique; people who have no claim to fame, other than wanton acts of strangeness, are elevated to unprecedented and ridiculous social-status. And the media it is all presented upon is simply turned on or off without required wait period.
MJCrest 3 months ago

Brings back flashbacks of that day.

feels bad man :(
hurrdurrbleh 5 months ago
@hurrdurrbleh If you haven't seen the "Grace Around the World" DVD set that came out in 2009, you should buy it. It's the next best thing to seeing him live. Your local music store probably has it, and it's usually in stock at Best Buy and on Amazon etc. I bought it as soon as it came out, and it didn't leave my DVD player for weeks. I immediately went back and bought copies for my son and two of my friends who appreciate good music. Peace.
