This is a really nice drive. I use a Wampler Ecstasy myself cool drive, this puppy is quite nice. I like the Wampler because it is so transparent and can get really open. Timmy is legendary for sure. I wish they were available with vendors. Anyway another nice demo from Brett, he even makes those little amps sound good. BYW, dude I happened to love that Believe pedal except for the god awful color and "believe" other than that some cool ring mod Jeff Beck tones. Was not a bad demo at all.
Personally I think you should do a demo comparing the Timmy to the Wampler Ecstasy...they have the same controls and from what I understand seem to do a very similar thing....so hearing them next to each would be very helpful!! :)
@ctcableguy different breed of pedals altogether, this is more transparent, almost like a boost. isn't the ecstasy higher gain and based on the dumble sound?
@aektzis91 They are definitely different. My point is only that the Ecstasy OD is far more versatile and can be used like the Timmy with the added benefit of more gain to almost full distortion. It too is very transparent at all settings. I use it through the clean channel of an all tube amp and it really sings while offering many options.
Awesome demo, you and Eric "gmd" are always worth a listen, and frankly I am getting more of what I need to hear from your demos, although I am grateful for the sheer volume of pedals and heads up comparisions he does. I really like the way you position the effect and the guitar and the audio (and your playing of course) is fantastic. Keep up the great work, you are becoming an institution brother.

I'll say this much, for the total cost of that pedal I could take almost any "distortion pedal" & "noise suppressor" and emulate those tone's and pitch to a tea with much less the cost! "So why", is it a name thing?
@manicjamm The Timmy was about $130.00 last time I looked. What on Earth are you on about? Pitch - huh? Noise suppressor? Wha..? Tea? It's for drinking, isn't it?
@manicjamm don't believe the Ebay hype. There are only ppl that get on the waiting list and then make a profit off of ppl that are impatient. If you buy directly from Paul, it's one of the most reasonably priced dirt boxes available.
@joshuarugg You need to call Paul Cochrane at 1-615-896-8555 between 0700-2200 CST and ask to be put on a waiting list (currently backordered to around March 2011) - no charges upfront. Otherwise, Paul has a MySpace page with links to some dealers he ships to. I called him today as well as one if his dealers. Whichever calls first, I will cancel the other. (10-years on Tim & 5 years on Timmy he has done this way!)
hey there! i saw this comment a while ago but i just got my timmy today i took it for a spin. works well with both really! it preserves your guitar tone and just adds grit to it. most videos dont really show it cos of the compression and all, but it does take almost all pickups ive tried (i tried different outputs of humbuckers and single coils) hope this puts your heart at rest (:
Two different beasts, really. One's a Marshall voiced overdrive (DLS) and the other is a 'transparent' overdrive that was specifically designed to push the builder's Strat tone harder into his Marshall (Tim/Timmy). The DLS loves other drives/fuzzes/treble boosts before it and (IMO) the Tim/Timmy pedals are better at pushing other pedals but can be used the other way around (stacking into) as well. Hope this helps!
I have the Timmy too (for years also)... I think it does better with the stronger pickups into it. BTW I found the asymmetrical modes noisy at higher volumes. I love this pedal though and with the lushness you don't need the asymmetrical mode IMHO.
Hey Brett, have you tried asymmetrical clipping modes? My favourite after 5 years playing TIMs and Timmys with single coils is asymmetrical with an LM1458 opamp

The Wampler Ecstasy OD smokes this pedal. Far more versatile and much better gain range. Love your demos! keep up the good work!

where the hell can i buy one of these? i cant them anywhere

This is about as perfect a demo as I've seen.
I only wish the reviewers would hit one note--bend it up a tone and hold it with vibrato; let's hear it blossom and hear overtones
Some slow soulful lines the give the effect a chance to breath--Nevertheless, good job BK!

Good idea, sir! I'll keep that in mind for future demos. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching. Cheers, BK.

How does it works with Humbuckers?
It seems to be voiced for single coils.

Hiya Grant. No, I haven't tried that combo yet. But I will soon and up a video for it to compare. Cheers, BK.

Brett, the asymmetrical clipping is something you feel as well as hear and the LM1458 is a little smoother with single coils.
Interested to hear what you think.

Reminds me of the Liquid sunshine, just with a little more control. Sweet demo.
