Power button does not sit flush, so you can turn the power button on and off by exerting pressure on the outside of the computer lid right above where the power button sits. This may be a major design flaw in the laptop and not just isolated to one computer. My computer turns on and off when I carry it in my backpack.

I'm a mac fanboy, and the DM4 completely punks the specs and looks of the Macbook. It's time apple started selling that plastic junk box for 799 and moved their 13" MBP down to the 999 price mark.

I've used HP in the past and my biggest concern is overheating. Could you tell me the heat of the dm4 (the underside, near the vent, etc) cause that's really the dealbreaker for me. Thanks!
@zid902002 This is a month late but I have the dm4 and I have left it on my bed while a I installed a few programs for a while on accident, came back to it and surprisingly it was not very hot, just a little warm.
I'm alittle worried about the CD drive sticking out. Like the MacBook pro, it doesn't have a slot loading disc drive. I'm afraid it might brake! Also of it gets a bad virus is their anyway to get it checked? And also maybe repaired like the apple care thingy? Reassure me about both of those points and I'm getting a dm4!

Would not be fair but the dm4 is better with gaming no dedicated graphics but still fast. The dm4 has more storage than MacBook and switchable batteries. It's more portable and Ive had absolutely no problem with it. Ver satisfied. Typing thing with the mouse not a problem
If your designated right/left click buttons to not physically press, then you should definitely exchange it. If you don't hear/ feel an physical click, then your touchpad does have a problem. This is exactly what happened with mine. I could only tap, there was no click. But I brought it back to Office Depot and got a new on the spot, no questions asked.
@boarder3512 I brought it back and turns out the the touchpad was sticking up and I was unable to right or left click. The clerk just pressed the pad into place and said that it was probably a minor factory accident. Thanks for answering :)
Do you mind commenting on the sensitivity of the trackpad? Does typing cause the cursor to jump? I have heard this is a common issues, can you please comment on this?
Thanks for the vid, i'm looking for a laptop for college, i was hesitating between a refurb macbook (1000dollars) vs the dm4 (700 dollars), both are pretty much the same spec wise, but the thing is, Apple are the kings of costumer satisfaction when it comes to laptops, while HP have a terrible track record. (viruses, breakdowns, poor build quality)

You bring up a good question. If you have been on the apple website, you will see that apple really touts their notebooks as "perfect for school" and "a student's best friend" etc. But in my opinion, I don't think that the unibody MBP is really worth the cash. With the MBP, you are getting 2 year old processor technology and a slightly lower resloution screen. The dm4 has a much newer core i5, so in 2-3 years your processor will not be totally obsolete.
As far as size and weight, the two are almost the same, except the dm4 has a more spacious screen. Here are the dimensions: MBP- width 12.8 in. length 8.9 in. weight 4.5 lb. HP dm4 width 13.4 in. length 9 in. weight 4.4 lb. The dm4 has a screen that is .7 inches larger, and you will enjoy having that extra screen space. Currently, you will only have Office 2008 for mac, which is far inferior to Office 2007 or 2010 for PC. But in a few months you will be able to use 2011 mac.
While many people will argue that macs have the best customer service, it is only available for you after your 1st year if you purchase AppleCare for $350. This lessens the long term/ customer service appeal. They are both metal, so they will be pretty durable. They will both satisfy your speed needs, the MBP is going to be better for gaming. Both get decent battery life. The fingerprint reader is something I find I really like. It all comes down to personal preference.

The DM4 looks better imo, more value for money and mine has the ATI HD 5450 so can play games. It's perfect :)
And it has Windows 7 which I feel is miles ahead of the mac os.

I think Scrolling in Firefox wasn't smooth because it's a problem with firefox. Not the Clickpad.
