  • i'm 100% certain i avoided injury by watching this, coz atm i have a shoulder problem coz my back is weak and they go way too much forward, so i constantly push or stretch them back, and for sure as soon as i saw this i arched my back WAY too much, so now i tense lower abs and bum and it's at perfect balance!

  • hey, i had two nasty injuries coz of poor upper back, building it now, and stopped training my chest until i get a good balance

  • Really well explained!

I've always had a VERY arched back, thanks to this i look about 2 inches taller and look like im alot thinner!

    thank you so much!

  • she like takes forever to get her point across! its annoying haha but still helpful.

  • If the problem is excessively tight muscles, then trying to correct that by conscious additional tightening is fundamentally misguided.

  • when she made her stand up straight she looked like she had something stuck up her ass!!! lol

  • My doctor told me that to try to ignore the back pain i get when i sit up straight because my body isn't used to it, is this correct?

  • @DdotTindall It depends on how you are "sitting up straight." If you are doing that through additional tension or compression, then the additional back pain is a signal you are making things worse. If you are relaxing into a balanced posture, then it could be temporary.

  • I think this video is dangerous. People will be walking round with their glutes tightened to the max. That isn't correct. Also, people will be tilting their pelvis inwards too much now after seeing this, which causes it's own problems.

  • Why's everyone complaining about the blackness at the end? What is this 1992, it's not like it took you 5 minutes to buffer that much.

  • Can you chop off the long stretch of nothing at the end of the video? Sincerely Elton John.

  • This only addresses people who have too much of an arch in their back. What about people with a flat back?

  • @ItsJimJam Man I'd rather have that one cause there are milions of exercises for it.

  • that woman is beast

  • @exitwound She could probably kick my ass and im a dude =/

  • Could someone include American subtitles? I can't understand a word of what these people are saying.

  • You must be kidding...

  • very educating, thank you!

  • damn shes buff

  • Nice ass ;)

  • @Oweboy1960 - agreed.

  • Question: Is it normal to experience a tingling sensation on the sides of the neck after rolling the shoulders back? Is this the muscles releasing tension?

  • Caroline has more muscle than me and I'm a guy..

  • hehehe... he said bum.

  • Thanks, this helped me a lot!!

  • makes sens..thanks

  • This women give very good advises, Thx a lot :)

  • a couple questions:

    1. Should we tighten our abs and glute for the whole day? I've noticed that people tend to care less about posture or about looking good at night.

    2. Does this strengthen the abs and glute?

    3. What effect will having good posture have on people? More confident? Think clearer?

    4. For the shoulders are we supposed to tighten them back? Or just stretch them out like she did whenever we feel like

  • @for777Him

yes to confidence and a most definite yes to thinking clearer. She said it relieves stress on your body because it basically teaches you that you are out of alignment and because of that, much of your attention goes to balance and much of your energy is being used on one side of your body (left right and front and back) over the other. Chinese phiosophy in tai chi describes this in terms of Yin and Yang. Aligning yourself frees both energy and clears your subconscious dialog...

  • that you never realized existed. One of the many benefits that comes with perfect alignment is alleviation of a lot of your chronic pain issues. Usually things brought on by stress like headaches, soreness (pain in the ass or neck etc..wherever you store your tension). It will probably not cure all of your ailments, but it will surprise you how much of your daily pain is curable. Less pain means less internal dialog thinking about the physical pain or the emotional pain stressing you.

  • The internal dialogue of worrying about things is pretty stressful on your physical body believe it or not. For some reason it causes you to rely on your dominant side more and more. Sometimes when sleeping, daydreaming, or concentrating very intensely on something (anything).

Sorry that was so long! Take care

  • @for777Him all you have to do is stiffen your third leg and voila all the problems are gone; physical and mental as well. you feel good, happy and in perfect alignment. now make a note of this feeling good moment and touch your tongue to the roof of the mouth. doing so will record this moment clearly in you mind. later during the day whenever and where ever u are touch the roof your mouth with you tongue; this will replay what you recorded earlier. replay often and all your problems will b gone

  • .. if your muscles are out of balance and one group's stronger than the other, then you will have to consciously hold that position until the muscles needed to do so strengthen.

  • It's key to focus on your breathing also. Work on abdominal breathing rather than short, shallow, chest breathing.

  • I loaded two minutes and one second of pure darkness at the end... and I want them back.

  • wow i tried it ,it feels good

  • VERY helpful to me. Thank you!

  • This is a very helpful way to educate postural awareness

  • Never underestimate the Chinese. During these recent harsh economic times every country threw money at banks and large corporations to avoid disaster when China was using it's stimulus money to create new jobs and infuse it's blue collar workforce. Now the Chinese economy is the strongest and seems to be the only one already bouncing back from the downturn, which is why many westerners (including myself) have been buying stocks in China. They are very advanced on many levels.

  • no they are doing good because the republicans outsourced all of our manufactoring to them!

  • Powerplant, it makes perfect sense why. Changing your posture as stated in this video could hurt or even damage your spine. In order to improve you posture you must first know what you are doing wrong when standing or sitting naturaly. For instance If you tighten your glutes and pull your stomach in and you already have tight hamstrings, which will affect posture buy straightening you lower spine you will make your problems far worse. You will be altering the lordosis curve in your lower spine.

  • i actually have/had very short stomach muscles.

I recall my therapist saying the opposite, dont tuck your abdomen in.\

My posture was very bad, it improved allot with therapy.

But i kinda forgot this part :P

    Thats why i asked

  • if i tuck my abdomen in

    It actually starts to hurt.

Not the other way around :S

is this normal in any way?

  • it's normal because when you tuck your abdomen in you are using your muscle, but you will get used to it and in a couple of months your abdominal muscle will be stronger and it will become a habit. (sorry for my english)

  • ive heard about abdomincal breathing, how you're supposed to breathe with you're abdomin, as in let it strut out when you take the in breath, but how are you supposed to breathe well if you're supposed to suck in your stomach? or is there a technique for that or are these two health habits at conflicts with eachother?

  • I've been using this technique to try and improve my posture, but every time I *think* I have achieved good posture, it always feels uncomfortable, and I just can't get it right. Any advice?

  • try Alexander Technique look for Marjorie Barstow she is a whizz! this method is a start but it is flawed

  • Im 16 and i play a heavy guitar and have done so for about 4 years.

i have sloped shoulders, what can i do to get them back straight again?

  • excellent information!

  • this is a really good video i mean someone with that posture is obviously a really fonctionnal human being .. able to work 16h without any pain or so

  • im 17 years old and im really into wheight training and martial arts, i would say im getting pretty good, but im always hassled for my bad posture but i couldnt help it, and this is exactly what i needed, now everytime i catch myself standing wrong i tighten my glutes and abs, and relax the shoulder, i cant thank you enough!!

  • @shmurray7861 - is it just a case of you just remembering to do this everytime? Has it worked for you?

  • @shmurray7861 fail to prepare and you should prepare to fail. Your age people always feel bulletproof, look into posture, muscle imbalances and injuries now and you'll avoid them later!

  • Excellent

  • very good!

Actually gives good advice in a clear way - without trying to sell something.

  • ahhh immeadiately after i tightened my butt and abs, i fell right into place, then when i let them go, you can feel the difference since your stomach like juts out!

    thanks!!

  • haha your comment made me laugh at the end, yes i can feel the difference aswell

  • haha thanks. it was really funny, my friend taylor has really bad posture, so i made her tighten her butt && abs and she thought i was crazy

  • good stuff thank you

  • triple tanks

  • more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thx so much my posture has improved in a bout 5 mins 8D

  • u are awesome ^^ this is exatly what i'm looking for

  • how does it work wen u have flat feet ? seems to undo all the work done.

  • omg! thanks! :)

  • i wish i would have seen this video a long time ago

  • thank u

  • dam shes buff like madonna

  • she's smart

  • VERY helpful. Please show us how to seat right! Helena

  • Ah, good. A posture expert who actually seems to have advice that conforms with reality rather than stating what "looks nice".

I had a bit of uncomfortableness when walking once in a while in my lower back and to the right side. One time when it happened and stretching wasn't helping, I simply tensed my "bum" muscles really hard for 10 seconds. Relaxing/stretching wasn't helping, so why not try the opposite? Fixed the discomfort right there. Haven't had the same problem since either.

  • how can you squeeze your glutes when you walk around?

  • exactly!

  • good point

  • gr8, thanx

  • squesing the bum or tensing the abdominals (except for the transverse that you don`t control directly) only creates more tension,

you have to release the psoas and the superficial back muscles

these things are not supposed to be controled directly, but by reflexes

some good methods is alexander technique feldenkrais and rolfing

  • we've all been inslaved I was thinking about this for a while now from school to your cars to your couch to your graves

  • This is SO helpful, especially about the ab part.

  • When they say tighten your abs... is that like a sucking in motion or a tensing outward motion?

and when they say tighten ur gluts is the same question applies

  • it's sucking in motion for both

but obviously it has nothing to do with breathing, it has to do with tightening musles
