  • F%!? Linux

  • who cares about loadtimes! we have SSD's now!

  • ubuntu is fast but doesnt hve the features of windows OS

  • @minojsos7 which makes it fast.

  • ubuntu machine has lower specs and booted faster

  • I have W7 and they are booting much faster then this... i got this with login under 15 seconds

  • I would like to know if in how many seconds ubuntu boots with ssd ;d

  • @0GreyWarden0

    i agree.

and you have to specify what a boot is.. you can boot ubunut without GUI.

plus new ubuntu will come out in october, and than another one in april so stuff can be fixed...

  • good test ubuntu should always boot up faster as it is a lighter operating system then windows 7. times should still be close though

  • I wish Ubuntu could fix their boot screen for once

  • @cumulus0007 i know heh...

  • @cumulus0007 there is a fix just add a line in grub google it

  • LOL 640k is enough for anybody... waste of money

  • Ubuntu is a faster better...

  • Ubuntu is the best, but the opening song must be changed!

  • 15 dislikes of windows fans xd

  • you must see, that ubuntu is finish, when you hear the startup sound

    Windows isn't finish

  • crap

    .com

  • crap

  • crap

  • ubuntu =9

  • well my win 7 pc can start up in the timne it takes yours to think about showing the starting windows thing XD

  • Sorry that i have to say this, but why the fuck would any1 compare boot time?

  • @mozdonny if all you wanted was to get online to check twitter/facebook/your bank accout/whatever before you left for the day...

  • @TJMonk94 Yeah, so you win like 5 seconds on strong machines right?

Yeah I know that Lucid will boot up extremely fast on lower configs, also agree with the usage of GNU instead of proprietary software when you only do twitter/facebook/bank account.

  • @mozdonny why are you watching this then??

  • @sewasam You guess it!

Of course to express my opinion, what did you think?

  • @mozdonny you must have not heard about windows' infamous 5 minute wait to boot. i can go each lunch and windows still wont be up to speed.

  • @mozdonny because faster is better

  • @Worfox1 and it still wins ^^

  • Windows has the disadvantage of having to load two screens as well, and because the ubuntu system is meant for quick load time, being a like operating system. if you were to do a clean install of windows starter, with nothing up on startup, and a clean install of ubuntu they would be even closer, if not the same. Im not saying ubuntu is bad or anything, i use it plenty myself. Just if your going to compare to operating systems compare them for what they are.

All OS's are best at something.

  • So, ubuntu wins on one core to two cores on windows? That proves something ^^

  • 3 seconds advantage, truly ground breaking development :)

  • @4werr0n3 LOL

  • Ubuntu is faster because it doesn't contain that many applications. I'm not hating on ubuntu since i have it but how can you campare speeds of ubuntu and windows when ubuntu has less apps and windows has more? And no, i'm not computer tech savvy so sometimes i have no clue what im saying but im trying to point the obvious out. You can't compare ubuntu and windows

  • @MrIAMPSW LOL. The more cars in your garage the slower they are???

  • @MrIAMPSW Yes, you can

  • @MrIAMPSW Programs are not loaded until you open them or tell them to open on startup. A clean boot of Ubuntu and Windows both CAN be compared.

  • Il n'y a pas photo ...

  • On my computer, takes about the same ammount of time to show the desktop for windows 7 and ubuntu. Ubuntu is a bit faster.

However, as soon as ubuntu loads i can open applications instantly. Have to wait about 3 minutes for windows to actually run at full speed.

  • @MNICY Kubuntu is way faster than Windows 7 on the same machine. It loads in about half the time.

  • ultimate edition linux FTW

  • what was that, a 2 second difference? big woop nerd king

  • nice monitors

  • You haven't boot them at the same time.

  • Open source all the way.....................

  • just use what ever you like to use... PC aren't cars and won't get you from 0 to 60mph in 4.7 like a super car lol

  • windows 7 is a very nice no have one operative sistem more nice

  • @Rodrigoaguilara I do.

  • Nice, you can boot very fast into a crappy desktop os. Wauw, can you make also a video of rotating cubes etc. ?

And for productivity just make a video of windows 7 :), the most solid desktop os ever.

  • @assshooter SOLID??

in many areas, ubuntu is much more productive.. including multiple desktops... ubuntu is faster and the code behind it is modern, much more so than windows

you can also achieve more for the hardware you have

you can't even do anything with a netbook running windows

windows also gets much slower over time and it is less apperant in ubuntu

ubuntu is much more productive.. multiple desktops purpose was to be more productive... WHAT U TALKIN' ABOUT WILLIS

    ;)

  • @deathbydouble

When the Linux desktop is so productive why is every serious company using Windows? Ubuntu like other distro's is using the X-windows system, thats very old crap. Lots of programs for the Linux desktop are crap to. Every piece of hardware I have runs fine in windows with full support of the drivers. Why buying a expensive graphics card in Linux? For tux racer? Linux desktop is good when you only surf the internet and mail a bit.

  • @assshooter u know most banks use unix Operating systems -_-

80% of servers use linux -_-

i use both windows and ubuntu; ubuntu for general web activity and programming while i use windows 7 for photoshop and graphic design. i have 3 6970s and linux doesn't support them well, i admit, but I initially got ubuntu to be safe from windows. have you every heard the term "legacy OS", well windows is one. that base is much older than the linux one

    PS. i don't game

    don't be so hostile ^_^

  • @deathbydouble PSS. ever heard of Red Hat

serious company? do you decide weather they are serious because a bank or a sever farm company, IMO, are serious

lets keep this on the argument, not each other... show a disagreeing of my ideas, not a dislike of me, whom u have never met.

    :p

    have a good day, assshooter.

  • thing is windows checks the registry, hardware state, disk state, and then terminates all processes, whereas ubuntu kills the processes as soon as you terminate the program and at shut down checks all hardware, disk states etc.- so it is logical for windows to take more time to shut down/ start up-- nevertheless microsoft has a lot of work still to do concerning their prized windows because its not anywhere near "perfect" (that's what ms thinks) yet.

    totally with you polychrones :)

  • Ubuntu win!

  • wow no way about the error sounds on ubuntu so im going for window 7

  • Not to mention windows is RARELY ready when you get to the desktop. Once you have virus scanner and a few other things installed your system will still lag for a bit.

  • Мда...) мне нравить скорость загрузки и выключения ubuntu

  • UBUNTU!!!!!!!!!!!!! rocks!

  • ubuntu winnnnnn genialll

  • Did Ubuntu just beat Windows 7 when the windows 7 had better specs? Who cares if it's unfair. It still counts if the lower spec machine won. It says something more than if you had identical specs.

  • Boot time is extremely important in portables; but on desktops they are not important at all

  • Who gives a shit about boot times!!! It's not a god damn performance benchmark!!!!

A "blank vs. blank" video in technology should be logical arguments, not "ubuntu turns on 10 seconds faster, so it's automatically the best thing ever".

    Boot times prove jack shit!!!!!!

  • @commodore256 Someone has a Windows7 install DVD jammed up their ass :/.

  • @Titanz91 Well, people view these videos like they're a performance benchmark and they're not.

Boot times aren't everything. There's a little thing called "Functionality" that's never talked about in these "Blank Vs. Blank" Videos.

Functionality is more important than a computer booting 15 seconds faster.

  • @commodore256 I know and totally agree with you. Your message was just a bit bleh is all o.o. As far as that goes, I love Ubuntu 10.10. It handles file transfers very fast and well. It seems to handle the internet and web content better and has a very easy to use package repository (Hey, the Ubuntu App store xD) for downloading packages you need and want. I love it's system updater, too. It has great functionality (In my opinion anyway). What do you think of Ubuntu?

  • @Titanz91 The IE9 Beta does HTML5 better than any other browser because the video card does all the work and any modern day entry level video card is faster than any i7 and Flash is better on windows. Facebook games run better on windows than Linux.

I see Linux as a lego set, you can make it whatever you want.

  • @commodore256 well we might see improvement in firefox 4

  • Comment removed

  • ROFL... And Windows had just started up, add another 30 seconds for it to startup all the programs

  • ive got the same screens is just on of them is 19 inch and the other 1 is 20 :D

  • It's funny that XP boots faster in a VM than it does natively.

  • i have work with a lot of systems but they best i think is like this

    1.Mac Os X 10. and higher,

2.linux unbuntu 10.4 it's almost like mac i will say they are amezing, two the same, like father like son. :)

3.windows vesies they suck like hell only XP run on a normal way but don't forget the 4 million virus that make windows versie suck like hell

  • @dusty2714

so play games on Linux ))))

  • ubuntu rules

  • Arch is faster. :)

  • Linux is pretty quick...I have it dual booted on all of my machines.... It's very stable and easy to navigate...and fast.

  • @scott93257

    reeeeaaaaaaaly`????? ^^

  • @MonsterreactioN

    Ohhhhhh YEAAAHHHHHH XD

  • Ha, both suck, Windows 95 ftw bitches.

  • @dusty2714 That was a joke, of course I don't use DOS ;)

  • @dusty2714 MS-DOS boots even faster!!!! Linux&Windows are Hored!!! MS-DOS Rocks !

Do not compare something very light like Ubuntu with an enterprise-grade OS like Windows...

  • @SOF006

With wine, you can run MS Office more or less. And another score to ubuntu: It's FREE.

  • @hb1134 But not everything works with wine. Most things I use don't work with wine, for instance most online games which aren't main stream.

  • @SOF006 Yeah, you are definitely right about that, for gaming windows is better. But only because almost all of the games are written specifically for windows, they don't have any linux versions. But still, for me at least Ubuntu is the one, because it's free, and I don't play too much. (a PC is not only for gaming, and WoW runs smoothly:) )

  • If i didnt game so much linux would be my primary OS, no i dont play WoW or it would still be my primary os seeing how wow runs fine on linux

  • I like Ubuntu and Windows but I know which is the better system. That is Windows. Why? It has compatibility meaning it can run programs that Ubuntu cannot run. Now whats better in the long run? Pretty effects or compatibility? Personally I would say compatibility because that means things like Games, Networking, Office (Like Word etc). Yes windows has problems but so does Linux. I use linux on my laptop and sometimes I get problems with my drivers when I upgrade to a new os.

  • @SOF006 Ubuntu is definitely better. Game compatibility is the only thing Windows has on Ubuntu.

  • lol Ubuntu is like OK. -You win.

    HAHA FFS NOOB

    GANKED!

  • Fuck Windows! Ubuntu is the best and most reliable OS on this planet! Easy to use and beautiful

  • Hello can anyone tell me how i run ubuntu from pendrive also if i install it on my hd will it bug my windows xp and 7 and other partition for other files i have?

but im specially interested on running it from pendrive, and once i do will it be slower or same thing?

  • Ubuntu has no real prefetching and sometimes takes ages to load stuff, while Windows 7 does that automatically in the background for you.Nautilus,Konquerer or Dolphin are too buggy (KDE more than Gnome) and less convenient let alone inconsistent. Compiz or Kwin are pathetic and slow down everything. No doubt Vista was bloated but IMHO it's much faster once it's fully loaded and certainly more productive.

  • WINDOWS VISTA/7!!!!!

  • To be fair, windows has far more to load on startup too.

  • this is so stupid. omg, windows is mutch better faster and can handle mutch more stuff than ubuntu can. Ubuntu may be faster than windows to load but when windows is loaded it kicks ass!:D

  • @gnurk23 ??? What are you basing that statement on? Its the complete opposite. The slowest Linux distro is faster than windows, the difference is Win is easy to install and familiar to people. Ubuntu is the "windows of linux" but still linux. Windows has no chance against a properly configured Linux system. I run both "same machine" And yes my 7 is tweaked for speed. But can't touch Debian 5

  • @gnurk23 <Has never used Ubuntu.

  • @gnurk23 it sure does kick ass at getting viruses :| it gets sooo much virus soo quick it beats linux out of the water... b/c poor linux doesnt get any :( how sad and i wanted linux to get more viruses like windows does .... awwww dang

  • @curemymind I really don't care what operating system you love, because it really doesn't change my life at all. But to put down windows based on it "getting viruses" is just plain stupid. Only people with a lack of knowledge get viruses, no matter what operating system they're on.

Also, I honestly find I get more out of Windows then I would out of any other operating system, so that is what I use. Just thought I put that put there.

  • 1st off i never said anything about loving any os over the other, 2nd im not trying to change ur life.3rd i dont put down windows in one fact, there are many reason why windows lacks,1st speed,2nd security..and do u realize there are worms aka viruses that function without ur sorry ass going into something stupid.these viruses just atack open ports. and no linux does not get any viruses.and i do use windows and linux and mac. So i should know something, have u even tried linux?

  • so dont get ur panties in a buch. the only reason u get more out of windows is b/c u lack any skills in linux or mac. i get a lot out of all Operating systems, if not in one then in the other... soo just chill out.

  • @curemymind Chill out? What are you talking about? I never said one harsh thing towards you, except that your comment was stupid, which it was. Whereas half of your reply is telling me off about my lack of skills and how I'm a lazy ass apparently.

You're right in that you never said you love one OS over any other but you implied it in what you did said.

Also, I have ran Linux (Karmic Koala and Lucid Lynx), and I have also used Macs a fair bit. So I should also "know something" eh?

  • I implied nothing you just reading way too much into these comments.. And ok I'll be the bigger person here and say I'm sorry. I'm sorry my comment was stupid, and I'm sorry i gave u a lecter on how viruses work.

And so you've tired linux thats grate. What did you get out of it? do you still use it? b/c i hope u realize using one thing for a short amout of time doesnt let u know something. I've used many linux distro's. Well best of luck sorry again.

  • UBUNTU!!

  • I like linux but softwares are too imcompatible with it thats why i dont use it often...a great os that is really badly widespread

fucking morons that do software that dont make it compatible with also linux should handle all the things like windows 7

if it did, linux would really get over windows and apple...

  • @jojosjuaninha it's a good thing.... I don't want no windows developers screwin up my ubuntuuz! I'm fine with the vast number of genius linux developers.

  • who cares which starts faster, ubuntu is way better!!! :)

  • I haven't started the video yet... I vote Ubuntu!

  • im sueing ubuntu right now i am a windows 7 lover so my opinion is windows 7 FTW but ubuntu is fast stable and it found all of my drivers no pro b but windows xp...................... :@

  • for me windows 7 ultimate loads in about 30 seconds fro everything from turn on to opening browser while when i used ubuntu it was much slower. Either way ill always like windows better because to me its just much more easier

  • UBUNTU Rocks! yeahh haha xD

  • ubuntu boots faster cuz it has NOTHING COOL OR FUN OR USEFUL TO LOAD THATS WHY IT SUCKS

  • @thecompans

    you're 5 you wouldn't know

  • Windows Lose

  • why you compare things that work differently? Or maybe you guys don`t know that after windows shows desktop it`s still continuing loading programs and services? and that maybe after about 5 minutes they are all fine and ready to go? and that Ubuntu does all that before it shows desktop? You don`t need to compare them, because windows is by default slower than any linux.

  • @Sons3e Defnitely. Though Id like to see a real speed test with the OS in use for everyday tasks. I bet Ubuntu will still win, because I think Win7 feels really slow (though not as slow as vista). A stress test of W7 compared to Ubuntu would show something.

  • @Sons3e and why is linux faster?

  • Computers are like air-conditioners...they stop working properly when

    you open windows...

  • @polychrones <3 ubuntu

  • @polychrones lol ur a raging homo. windows 7 is a great os. i like linux too but windows is definatly better.

  • @polychrones

thats better than friends are like bras there there for support but sometimes can be a bitch hha

  • @polychrones lol, that is hilarious

  • @polychrones

LMAO ...good analogy...and so true..Well when improperly configured at least.

  • @polychrones lol

  • @polychrones Brilliant comment

  • @polychrones Fantastic simile.

  • @polychrones ROFL!! nicely said

  • @polychrones ur comment just made my day it's the funniest this i've read today.

  • @polychrones one of my favorite comments

its also really easy to break windows made by Microsoft

my windows freeze and it is 80F outside... ya Microsoft windows have a wide range of freezing temperatures (bad joke i kno)

your is by far the best one i have heard

  • @polychrones i agree linux ftw

  • Ubuntu for ever!!!

  • UBUNTU +++++

  • ubuntu baby

  • Wow the Windows machine is THAT much more powerful, and the Ubuntu machine still won? Windows just failed!

  • i need alil bit of help i want to test or just try out ubuntu 10.04 i never tested or used it the thing is my laptop is a 64bit pc and in the ubuntu site say 64-bit - Not recommended for daily desktop usage what should i do ? i also have the i5 intel cpu

  • @ROBISDISTURBED "i need alil bit of help i want to test or just try out ubuntu 10.04 i never tested or used it"

You can always download the 32bit version to be safe, but the 64 bit should work just fine. Download the ISO image, burn it on a disk, put it in the drive and restart. After it loads, you can install Ubuntu alongside Windows (link on the desktop)

It's as simple as that :)

If you need a walkthrough or help - send me a message.

  • are those 24's wat are the exact model of thoses i like and are they lcd?

  • Try a boot race with XPUD andUbuntu. HAHAAHHAHA

  • windows sigue siendo = de malo

hasta en windows 7 diciendo que es el mejor

lo unico nuevo que veoes que consumas mas recursos pero es mas rapido

    nadamas

  • comparation suks ubuntu is like a kernel, not like an os.

  • @KEEVVY : No. actually Linux is the Kernel. Ubuntu is the distribution built around the kernel. Other distributions are made around similar kernels using the same code and include RedHat, SuSE, Mandriva, XPUD, Puppy and many others

  • The Main Diffrence is, that if you boot Windows and you see the whole Desktop, that it must not mean, that is ready. It must Load Antivir, your ICQ, Firewall, Steam whatever, and then you see these Balloon Popups

In Ubuntu, when you can see your desktop, then everything is ready to work :D

  • obviously ubuntu 10.04 runs faster.

i actually have two operating systems in one computer.

windows xp home editon sp3 and ubuntu 10.04. i ve calculated how long it would take ubuntu is the fastest. to me also the best!

  • @Jucebox3000 Duh, It's Ubuntu ;)

I've never had the chance to try it fully tho...Can't figure out how to install drivers for it and especially graphic card drivers... Can't even do it on the virtual machine :(

  • @Jucebox3000 : XPUD is a faster OS and a faster boot but less feature rich

  • Yeah programs that installed in Windows take longer to actually boot, so even though it's on everything is not working off the bat. You generally need to to wait a few more seconds 10-20 in order to actually open applications. In Ubuntu you can start surfing the web once the desktop has loaded, mac and Linux are the same when it comes to this. This is something Windows has yet to master. having said that, Windows 7 is a huge improvement over Vista and XP.

  • @PC4LinuxFreak Yah but can you guys run super HD graphics in games ;)?

    No. No you cant XD!

Althought i aggre on the things you said ;)

But on my computer i can open up everything in windows 7 once the desktop loads so yeah...

Still i've used to have that on my older labtop with windows 7 so i know its true..just different on every comp XD

Btw, how do you install drivers (or virtuall drivers when you're running it in a virtual machine) on ubuntu?

I'm struggling with that and cant try it fully..

  • @tabbiepsu : Yes try Urban Terror, Doom3, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Penumbra, Postal 2, Counterstrike Source and World of WarCraft. Full 3D games.

    Please research before trolling.

  • @ShadowEater120880 can you run crysis?

and i wasnt trolling, i was pointing out something i wish linux ubuntu had XD!

  • @tabbiepsu : You never mentioned Crysis. Your statement included HD graphics in games and I gave some example. You should be more specific. I am unsure if it can as I don't game much nowadays but I know those games play exceedingly well. If you want Linux to run the game then pressure the makers to make a native linux port. ID software do this lots

  • @ShadowEater120880 True i never mentioned it..

But I bet someday Ubuntu will be able to run every single game windows can..

And i suck at pressuring people so I'll just wait :)

  • @tabbiepsu im glad you can run anything you want on windows, it's just you spent the triple money than me to be able to run anything you want haha lol , and if you cant run games on linux it's just b/c the games are made for windows , you know ! " the money goverment" just like the softwares you cant run on linux ! take care ! byeeee! :)

  • Yep,on windows you need to wait few seconds after desktop is loaded,on Ubuntu you dont have to

  • Actually, that wasn't close at all. The moment you see the Desktop in Windows means nothing. Almost a third of the stuff still has to load. The right way to do this test is to have both open Firefox and go to a home page. That eliminates the error caused by back ground loading since it shows you when you can actually start working.

  • did you disable floppy drive on Ubuntu BOX in the bios? it cuts about 5 sec of load time off my machine.. if not more.

  • Comment removed

  • shoot me in the head. anoooooother boot up video. ahhhhhhhhhhhggggggg

  • Wow, that was very close. And it looks like Ubuntu powered on late!
