Hey man, hope you're still well. Just found you on here and started watching. Great talks, I like what I hear. I like that kick-ass lighter of yours too.
As for the evolution/adaptation thing, I heard it put a great way somewhere. I think it was Dawkins. He said adaptation is like the smaller steps leading to evolution. So how can someone walk a mile without taking any steps? Neat, huh?
Lables are certainly overated. They often cause enough bais to cause an individual to stop listening all together. What a shame. Great thoughts as usual.
When hear the terms "Adaptation" and "evolution", I think how many people spin that to fit that into some agenda. In the retail industry, both are use to manipulate the public into believe "have-it-now" mentallity, which become passe as something new come around, like the iPhone. I know this
sounds like rubbish, but the thinking is all the same. What people are trying to sell is you "got to have it", not whether it work for your life. Thinking for onesself is the "evolution" of mankind
Only other meaning of adaptation i could see is that it means that an organism during its lifetime adapts to its enviroment...
Or as the other wierd example.. that girraffes stretch their necks to get to leaves.. so their children also gets long necks.. Wish just isnt the way geneology works..
Just a thought, rkz: would your identification with atheism influence your politics if you had a viable atheist candidate to vote for? Identity politics can be a strong factor in an election.
No. A lack of belief in a god/s, goddess/es, in no way will inform their decisions on policies that would influence my vote.
I have been a huge supporter of politicians that were very religious (Carter was VERY religious). As long as they believe in the separation of church and state, I will move on.
Yeah, I had to ask you that question the year "identity politics" is being turned on its head. Bothering to research the candidates' positions on issues is the mark of a rational citizen. I think I just scared myself.
Yeah... not descending to their level has become an issue I really need to address within myself. I have been baited into too many "arguments". Something I try to never do. I discuss.
Hope you are well. I haven't been making videos lately. Been busy but hope you are well.

Yeah, I read Richard use that example... it is an apt one.

Ive looked in to adaptation (wikipedia).. and I dont know why adaptation isnt just another word for evolution.. it follows the same proccess.. no?
FurieMan 3 years ago
They are similar and often interconnected, but are not always the same thing.
Adaptation is far more short-term/immediate than evolution which takes many, many, many generations.

If they do not, that is a deal-breaker, however.

You found a candidate that talks about policy? Where?

I can't deal very well with people who engage in circular reasoning. It's tough.
