  • Is it footage from when they repaired some power lines by helicopter in 1998? I remember it was all on the news, because they couldn't reach the towers by ground

  • Sadly only a tragic disaster can bring us all together as one.

  • These guys speeding away as the towers collapse on the road behind them was the most ridiculous shit in this documentary. I mean, c'mon this is not an action movie! Almost ruined the whole docu for me =).

  • @IdioticTendencies there's a docudrama for u... or a dramamentary... either one.

  • prune or completely cut down trees that are at risk of falling onto power lines in such an event. as for the people stupid enough to burn their houses down.. well that's darwinism. we r in the 21st century now, if we can't get the money together to prevent these type of things then we're chuffin doomed... btw, the sound was out of sync for most of this vid

  • Ok, I’m no expert on natural disasters, but I can throw some ideas out right now that could prevent the most of this - bury cables instead of raising them where possible. stronger towers for overhead cables. Maybe some sort of heating element could be installed through the whole overhead cable network to be switched on and off every 12 hrs or so to melt the ice off. medical supplies come in by ship. the obvious like wrapping up warm and stuff, young and fit give ur fire wood to the old.....

  • @godkingRoss

Following the icestorm of 1998, many thechnologies have been developped... Like robots rolling on cable for de-icing or outputting more power on the lines to heat them up...

Even though these power lines were built for icestorm, noone could have predicted one like in 1998. But even then, our network has been made even stronger with more lines to complete the loop. In the US, with their fragile infrastructure, it would have been much worse! See blackout of 2003 and how QC was safe!

  • I hate freezing rain! We just had our 1 yr reunion of our worst Ice Storm on record here in KY. It's still vivid in my mind, and my fellow Kentuckians as well. Everything looked like a warzone around these parts. I couldn't believe the devastation that was unleashed on our trees. Huge trees brought down. We had no electricity for almost 2 wks, I heard of others not having it for a month or so. But in a weird way I miss it, brought my immediate and extended fam together. We had gas heat!!!

  • @Mattboy

    You're a horrible person.

  • @Mattboy2388 You are terrible. And the victory on terror is a pie in the sky.

We were terrorists back the revolutionary war.

  • @Mattboy2388 errr, am i wrong in thinking this doc is entirely fictional, just a dramatization of what may possibly happen at some point in the future? and if that's your veiw, what do you think was the meaning of hurricane Katrina? what the US got FOR participating in the war on terror? lol

  • @godkingRoss hurricanes happen. nothing you can do.

  • @Mattboy2388 ok, i think you missed the point so never mind

  • @godkingRoss Yes your wrong. I live in Montreal, and it all happenend in 1998. The only fictionnal part is the snowstrom after the icestorm, so it wasn't that bad.

  • reminds me of the day after tommoorow... when the people of new york are frozen.............. it was sad......

  • hmm i guess i was lucky. The worse i got was 1 day and a half of no electricity

  • here nobody got electricity... its horrible...

  • bittersweet, I'd say. a sort of "this was a huge disaster," but also "but we survived, and life goes on" thing...

  • that was depressing.......
