@STATUSthesleepers No they don;t put as much effort in graphics, becouse they spend that time improving, story, locations, dialogs, quests and gameplay in general , if on top of that they would spent time on making it look pretty for some reason, it would take ages to finish the game, keeping in mind that risen has quite big open world.

This game really has potential, great story, good voice acting e.t.c. So why oh why is the combat system so annoying? I mean it is doable, but being in the ring for 30 bloody minutes with that Aric guy was borderline gamebreaking for me. Otherwise this game is fantastic! Just like Gothic 3, great game, but wau the combat system lacked there as well...

The english sync is pretty different to the german original which is better in my opinion. But combat is international and really fun in Risen.

i too like how its more than a one button combat system. The only thing I can lodge against it is that it can be sometimes inprecise in third person (a first person option would be nice for me), but its nothing like what people say it is.

They probably doesent like a 3 button game (what it looks like) But then again, Assasins Creed is the same and that game is awesome. :) But like wow etc where you use alot of diffrent abilitys you get more variation.

ahh, ok, i could never parry an attack like that, i had to find bugs to win my battles lol. i just circled around blocking real close eventualy they attack right passed you and you can hit em in the back., thx for the vid, maybe i can figure out this combat thing now.

@moontoot It was difficult for me at the beginning too. They should have made a tutorial. You need to memorize the attacking pattern of each type of monster. For example wolves use a maximum of 3 consecutive strikes. This is the wrong occasion to attack them. But be patient and don't use the whole combo every time you attack because they might interrupt you.

A step backwards is usually more effective than a block. I just step backwards and power attack against almost all creatures

I like how when you raise your weapon skill, you can link every move together in one combo to fit the situation, enemies actually fight and flank you. Seem like many people don't get the combat, they just smash button and call it slow and sluggish which is totally not true, even some "professional" reviewers , sad :(.

telkenesis will help you to find that key.

then read all books in the library and try to find master abarax.there u get a new master quest done.

and do a mission with enzo and withother,whos in illumnar classroom.they will help u and u help them eachothers.i got bad enghlish.srry.

Actually, i think fight against multiple opponent is a bit easy once you learn how to link "lateral blows" into you combo and charge attack.

Combat in Risen is pretty good but not when you have to fight a multitude of oponents.I'm at chapter 4 and I have to fight like a ton of enemies at once which is kinda annoying cause I'm a warrior so...But anyway the game is fantastic,the story,the atmosphere and the soundtrack are epic

@negativxx When I have to fight several opponents at the same time, I usually just step backwards instead of parrying. You can't parry hits of several opponents if they attack almost at the same time and you can't let them circle you

I just started a new file on Oblivion, but do you think this game is any better? I really wanted to like this game but the combat looks like utter shit. I have combat mods for oblivion to make it really fun, I may have to wait until Risen has some mods to try it.

Risen is just an inch away from greatness. Im able to play with all settings maxed and can say that the graphics are very nice. for me combat is awsome - better than oblivion. to be honest, im starting to like this game even more than i did oblivion when it first came out. I like using a sword and shield. it has a nice feel to it. Im surprised to read so many bad reviews, because this game rocks. its a bit of a "sleeper." One month ago I didnt even know anything about it

Did you have problems with the masters tests? I heard there a bug and it doesn0t let you finish all tests.

There is a bug when doing the Scroll Creating tests. You are unable to finish the sequence and learn magic as a result. Its kinda major. Since magic is one of the cool things here.

But nonetheless you can leave the Monastery and carry on with your quests and advance further in the game ... hopefully a patch will come up soon to fix these nasty bugs.

I joined the Inquisition. They usually fight with magic and staffs. I will make a part 2 since i advanced into the game. It will all look even better.
