So great to hear this. For the few times I'd heard Deep Purple's version as a kid it left an indelible mark as the version I love. If I had heard this one instead those few times this would hang on as the favorite I'm sure. Great songwriter. Thanks!

Fyi this wasn't written for Deep Purple. Guys in DP just heard a band play this song at a club and liked it, then made their version. And it sounds quite different from this since the band members have admitted to not having heard the original before recording ...

@slycordinator But the deep purple version was quite excellent none the less. They really added their own spin to the song. Joe Souths Version and Deep Purples Version are both very very good in my book. I like Bill Joe Royals inturpatation of the song, but it just doesn't strike me like JS and DP's versions.

@slycordinator Hahaha!!! It´s very funny. I only knew the Dp and BJR version (sorry) this is my first time listen to de real thing and what I can hear this is DP bass player almost did a copycat of this bassline. The Singer Rod Evans sounds almost the same to JS but it´s very evidente JS was a better performer. Anyway all versions of this tune are simply AMAZING... Even the versión of BJR is great
