You might want to turn the stabilization off, when using tripod and taking a long exposure. Also I find that heavier lenses are more stable to hold than really light ones.
how can the image quality not be a big deal, but that the af points are shown IN THE VIEW INDER is worth mentioning, btw what about chromatic aboration, destortion, af, maybe put it up againt the 70-30mm c'mon wth? btw if you own a dslr you most likly know what a zoom is...
Just to let you know, those "little squares" you see are autofocus points and they're in the viewfinder not in the lens. No offense, just though I'd let you know
@thejokerswild07 I do learn photography -.-" If you don't have a lot to be constructive on a video then why post? It's people like you that piss me off here on youtube...I'm just happy you're not like "_insert amount of dislikers_ Clearly can't __insert lame thing they can't do__"
you would turn the Vibration Reduction off when using a tripod. and the locking feature is to prevent "lens creep" to stop the lens extending while moving around.
Hey, I was just wondering if this lens wound fit my Pentax K-x coz I want to take pictures of horse races and can't do it with the standard 18-55mm lens which comes with the camera. Thank !
Thank you very much! I'm just starting out and bought the Canon T2i a couple of days agio and trying to do my homework before investing in lenses. Again, thank you for your help!
Hi Joe, the lock is to stop "Creep" in the lens. Creep happens when you are not using the camera and have it hanging around your neck. If you don't "Lock" the lens at 28mm, the lens will "Creep" or fall down under its own weight and extend out to the 300mm length.
I'm going to get it for my new Nikon D5000 :D! That measuring at the end was great, I gawked at it for a moment! It was amazing! Thanks for the review!
the lock feature, stops creeping (lens moving without you touching it when pointed down or something). By locking it at 28mm, it means when your hiking the camera around you neck, the barrel doesnt just fall to 300mm
The focus points that you see are not from the lens but from the senor inside the camera so never worry about not having those. The IS(Image Stabilizer) should be off when using a tripod; I have read that it can not be a good thing.
As far as the lock... I believe it is to make it easier to put on/remove the lens. Locking at different focal lengths is pointless until the lens gets lens creep which should not be a problem for this lens.
Thank you so much for doing the range test at the end with the camera. I've been looking forever at how far 300mm would get me, and that was a PERFECT example! Good review.
is it any good for close up shots or shots where you dont have much room to take a picture can you fit them in and is it a nice picture ! ALSO is it any good for action shots
well, you can get some good close ups with it, but if ALL your taking are close ups i say stick with the lense that your camera came with, however it can be done, and the pictures arnt bad at all. and yes, it can take GREAT action shots
I'm not completly sure, but I think you can order them for sonys as well as cannons and nickons, I say go to your local camera store and see I'd you can order it
the Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro (Model: A061) is available for Sony / Minolta and Pentax mounts. This is the model without optical stabilisation, for Sony / Minolta and Pentax users this isn't an issue since they have stabilisation built in their bodies. Hope this helps.
i really cant remeber the f stop lol, sorry, and the only issue I find is if im doing a close up, even on the Macro setting it takes a long time to focus...if it even focuses at all...but in that case all you have to do is turn on the manual focus. and act like you're using a camera from 30 years ago haha
hi the lock is to lock the lens in the 28mmshort position for carrying over your shoulder, or the lens might extend by itself from its own weight while over your shoulder, seeya
Nice review. I really like this lens. I wish the new Tamron 18-270mm VC would be at in same price range of cheaper. What do you think? The Nikkor 18-200mm VR is too expensive to my wallet.
The locking switch is only meant to stop the lens from 'creeping' out while your wearing it on a strap. More companies that make heavy lenses are starting to do this.
it sucks to see that you are actually using your camera in automatic while according to you you are professionally talking about the use of equipment

On the 300 mm sample picture, did you set the focus? Or is it that blurry because there was no tripod?
