  • hi folks, see my video reply and help me to find "my" version of the irish rover song.

i have only a short recording of that and would like to have this (THIS!!!) version. m,aybe someone can at least tell me who sings it.....

  • It's the best version of this song I've ever heard

  • lol 2:23 shane mcgowan?

  • Pozdrowienia z Polski :)

  • What album is this on?

  • You shouldnt cry for Legents...you should just tell and sing his songs so others will learn.

  • Great version!

  • rest in peace man.

  • R.I.P Ronnie, from all of us in Wales.

Origin Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, Ireland

    Died August 16, 2008 (aged 73)

    As people wanted to know.

His music will live on forever.

  • I like the little flash of Shane MacGowan in there.. The Pogues and Dubliners version of this song is amazing! :L

  • to me he looks like ben skywalker from star wars. oh god i'm such a nerd, refrencing starwars in a dubliners song.

  • I was away in Italy when he died. I only found out 2 minutes ago this guy passed away. U know he's kickin it Irish style up there with Luke Kelly right now! U were a great artist. R.I.P.

  • R.I.P Ronnie . You'll always be in our hearts with your music.

  • He died in August!!

  • How early is this version

"Dolan from Claire, with the strength of a bear" (Think these are the original lyrics anyone seen a copyright version?)

instead of "Your Man Mick McGann from the banks of the Bann"

  • Ronnie Drew, give em hell in heaven, rest in peace.

  • when did he die? man that stinks but he's up there now having a good time.

  • R.I.P Ronnie

  • He didn't just kiss the "Blarney Stone", he bit off a great big chunk of it! I hope Ronnie and Pat are watching over this world, and having a great bellie laugh. (27 masts)??? =Stefan=

  • @chengloki yup, 27 masts...and it stood several blasts as well :)

Although the original version claims 23 masts, and doesn't mention the porter...

    Ronnie improved this song :)

  • @rpgplayer101 a couple of years ago, he died of cancer.

  • @rpgplayer101 Ronnie Drew is a LEGEND!! GODBLESS YOU R.I.P

  • A true shame he had to go ... May he live on in our memory and in his tunes!

  • RIP Ronnie.

Your music will live on forever

  • Thanks so very much for posting this bit.

    Cheers

  • listening to this version i now realise that i have been singing this song with different words for years!!

  • Actually some words are changed in this.....it's always been a cargo of bricks, and he skips from 7 to 9 for some reason, and its not on board of the irish rover, its in the hold of the Irish Rover, and it's Johnny Mcgurk not Mickey and also "Malones" first name is never mentioned but it is here, and the part about Dolan from Clare is totally new here.

  • I like anything Ronnie Drew does ... you have to admit though in the Pogues version there is nothing more priceless than Ronnie Drews facial expressions!

  • I like this one better than the Dubliners and the Pogues version. I like the slower pace.

  • Agreed. Slower pace is right. Barney plays the banjo I think in this one because Ronnie only sings and plays gitar.
