  • Very elegant!

  • You have inspired me to finally choreograph my sword dance!! This is great! I love that you don't just put it on your head and balance it. that get's so old. This is great!

  • i love it!

  • grow your hair long you will look good rather than an i rish gypsy lol

  • This has to be one of the most beautiful and entertaining sword dances I have seen. Tho I may have picked another style of costuming that did not resemble a Khaleegy dress but I have to admit the flow and movement of the dress adds tremendously to the performance. As it pulls the eyes to the beauty of the dance and movements which are highlighted by the embroidery.

  • Great dance, beautiful dancer, stunning costume.

  • Very well done and executed, seems to combine traditional cane moves into sword and I like it. I Like the speed and fluidity. Kudos and glad to know we have some reference to woman with swords. Amara Al Amir

  • 1st, it's a truly EXCELLENT dance/performance & I favorited it. I'm glad she posted it, BUT in the Khaleeg, the sword dance is a MEN's macho-showoff dance, with NO torso or hip moves & no splits. Women don't do it.

2nd, we/ I have documented proof that there were sword dances women did & still do, so it's NOT (contrary to other "dances") a made-up "American thing"

3rd, NO dances were only "danced in front of the husband" - that's Orientalist (in Edward Said sense), racist fantasy.

    Morocco

  • Absolutely correct! Thank you.

  • I believe Yasmina describes it as a Khaleeji sword dance, not that made up stuff that Americans do.

  • Its beautiful

Does someone can explain the cultural context behind this performance? song area? tradition? costume? thank you Maria Aya, Greece

  • this dance came from the middle east. at first it was just used to dance in front of the husbands. but then some time later they used it to dance everywhere. the song also came from the middle east.

i hope i got that other part right lol

  • woops. i messed some of that up... sowwy :P
