  • Sounds funny, but John Lowe looks better throwing a dart than any other player i've seen. Stance, grip, concentration; if there is such a thing as a darts stylist then he was it.

  • I've Got John Lowes Autograph Lol I Was 1st In Line!

  • One dislike on this video.. From Keith Deller.

  • How cool was that? No ego, no bad attitude, the 'good guy', well deserved prize. Remember Deller beating Bristow in the finals?

  • I miss these times where the audience was quite during the dartthrows...

  • Old Stoneface is a great dart player, my dad's favorite as well.

  • filmed with a calculater

  • wow £100000 in 1984

  • This takes so much skill and concentration. Quite amazing.

  • My grandad beat John Lowe in the news of the world championships.

  • Keith Deller has his fingers crossed for John, you can see it at 1:15 when he scratches his head.

  • I was very privilege to play against John Lowe many years ago. He is one if not the greatest player i have ever seen. That game has stayed with me and it has been the highlight of my darting career.

  • classic

  • id like to see power taylor[hmmm][fat chunt more like] hit a 9dart finish with these darts. john low take a bow

  • @ronyeats Taylor is the greatest of all time, better than Lowey. Did Lowey get 2 9 Darters in one match

  • british english sounds so gay

  • John Lowe is a legend and the last unified World Champion.Brilliant vid.

  • i remember this happening! i was 10 years old! john lowe = legend!!!

  • i wonder, has it ever been done this way-

    treble 20, treble 19, bull x3 (167x3=501)

  • The "perfect" nine-darter :). I don't think this has ever been officially done, and is only ever tried in exhibitions.

  • brings back great memories i watched it live on the telly

  • Darts wasn't live back then, apart from perhaps the world championship final. This was put into a convenient timeslot during World Of Sport, some time between the racing and wrestling, and introduced by Dickie Davies with the words "we now go to the second leg of the fourth set, and there's no score (only Dickie Davies wold have introduced darts with such a stupid remark.

ITV also had snooker's first televised 147 (Steve Davis Lada Classic 1982), but that was also recorded.

  • so i was conned by itv :O) still it was amazing to watch tony oshea to win the bdo final

  • mate i got that wrong aswell just found out via the radio that t oshea lost :O)

  • no it wasnt!!! O'Shea's a wee cock!

  • they guy who beat oshea is a dam good player i watch his match against hankey that was edge of the seat stuff do you reckon he will beat adams i think he will

  • Hope so Adams is a tool as well

  • first televised nine-dart checkout! nice.

  • At least he earned it.Unlike these lazy, overpaid footballers of today.

  • john lowe from my neck of the woods chesterfield

  • couse you did

  • We are on course....for a nine dart checkoooot

  • £100,000 then is equivalent to over £200,000 in today's money. Not bad for just over one and a half minutes work. John the Legend!

  • actually £200,362

  • the good thing about this perfect game is that he finished unlike other darters, where he did t17 t18 d18, while others did t20,t19,d12.

  • John Lowe is the MAN

  • nice celebration too unlike the footballers when they tap in from 2 yards and act like they have done something out of this world.

  • great! the godfather of darts! I watch this clip usually before I go to play darts.

  • ditto! a friend of mine who plays in the same dart league as me here in little rock, ar, told me of this, and i was blown away the 1st time i saw it. people like him hit 20's like i fantasize about hitting 20's

  • this was the 1984 world matchplay.i watched it.i was amazed

  • my mam played against john lowe once in a pub, he won like but she came a close second lol =]

  • Ummm...there is more that one way to achieve the "perfect" nine-darter. The method you cut and pasted from Wikipedia isn't the only method you know.

  • i know that, many ways are possible, but if you play dart or other kind of sport like e.g. archery where you have to hit a target, then u should be able to hit the middle of it, because this should be the area with the most points. That was the origin of this sport.

  • yep in a 501 game of course... omg

  • please read,think then write

    in this order

  • this is probably the best 9 darter,, to go treble 17 treble 18 double 18 rather than 20 19 12 is phenominal under that pressure away from the twenty first dart of the sequence... well played............ class

  • YES RESPECT...DARTS WAS BRILL THEN!

  • its better now...

  • Listen to how quiet the crowd is (whilst they're throwing).......These days it sounds like they're having a party whilst a brass band marches around the gaff!

  • Excuse me but when did a 9 dart game stop becoming perfect?

  • This isn't a PERFECT 9 darter. Simply a 9 darter.

  • Whats not perfect about it? John Lowe "tarn legend".

  • He's simply saying it's redundant saying perfect to describe a 9do not that Lowe isn't perfect.

  • There is more than one way too do a 9 darter though. Surely this one,(involving two treble 20s) is the PERFECT 9 darter.

  • lol the deller feller

  • was this after deller became world champion

  • yes it was

  • Lowe had a superb technique, so balanced and smooth. Great to see this, thanks for uploading.

  • The king of cool.

Can't wait for those haircuts to come back.

  • please excuse me if I'm making a stupid mistake, but I just watched another clip from the list, phil taylor, and the commentator says " the first televised 9 dart finish in darts history", the the commentators here say exactly the same thing... so, which one is it?

  • John Lowes was the first 9 darter to be captured by TV but it was not broadcast live on TV. The commentators on the Taylor one are refering to it being the 1st one to be broadcast LIVE. Though Phil Taylors was not really the 1st live 9 darter,Sean Greatbatch hit the 1st live 9 darter on Dutch TV before Taylor did it. The Sky Sports commentators tend to completely ignore Sean Greatbatches one. Taylors one is the first 9 darter to be televised live on British TV however.

  • Thanks so much for that bully, that explains everything. I'm just going to watch that 9 darter by greatbatch, I just saw it in the list, thanks once again.

  • @bully180 I think what he did, Taylor, was have 2x9darters in the same match, That has never been done on Tv, I believe, But I do remmeber seeing this in tv many moons ago, as a young lad.......I shit me pants, with joy of course,

  • Comment removed

  • @kingandy71 actually shaun greatbatch was the first one to do it live but taylor was the first one to do it on britisch telly

  • well, john lowe i think scored the first ever televised 9-darter but phil taylor's was live. Lowe's was not.

  • @LazyScott99 sky tend to ignore anything that happened before roughly 1992 ish. see football for more examples of this.

  • Absolutely perfect

  • It must have irritated the hell out of the BBC that, two years after ITV got snooker's first televised 147 (Steve Davis), they get there first with the 9 darter, despite BBC's huge coverage of the World Championships. In both cases, the BBC eventually got the first 147 and 9 darter in the world championships.

I'm a bit surprised that ITV haven't rubbed BBC's noses in this. In fact, I've been in a quiz where they gave the wrong answer to the snooker one (they said Cliff Thorburn).

  • Just brilliant.

  • Look into his eyes - this man has ice water running through his veins...

  • aimbot 4 sure..
