  • Your videos are fantastic! Thank you.

  • Superb video!

  • 55 ppl failed maths!

  • Atheism is simply the belief in no God. For ppl to understand atheism, they need a better (bold) definition of God. I don't like to call what i believe in "God", it's a "supreme force" not understandable to the present day human thought process. I don't worship, i recognize.

  • @perfectchronic

Atheism is the lack of belief in gods, not belief in no god.

    Theism = Belief in god(s).

    A = without

Atheism = without belief in gods

Now some atheists may go beyond that and also believe there are no gods, but that would be called something else.

  • Oooh, I like this! ...subscribed.

  • What is that called at 8:36 ? Ive seen that picture before and every single time it seems awesome xD

  • @yellowbrownies5 It's from the Eagle Nebula... It's showing how gas clouds collapse into stars, also called the pillars of creation

  • God made all the known universe. The amazing complexity therein. Populated our planet with millions of species of animals and plants. All with totally different nd complex life cycles. Every minute of every hour of every day, life is a struggle for someone or something, yet despite all this, god is bothered if a single individual women comits adultury and punishes her with stoning to death. God is indeed either small and petty minded or as I suspect a creation of ignorant and primative minds?

  • Moby - We're all made of stars

    All I need to say

  • Your God is too small.

  • @xmoodudex63 Or as Richard Feynman put it: "the stage is too big for the drama".

  • Actually, based on the idea of parallel universes, there are an infinite amount of stars because of the infinite amount of different versions of this universe floating around. Also, based on the fact that if you put Mars and Venus in the same area that we're in, they also would've sustained life. Life really isn't all that special when it comes down to it; we're just some particularly complex chemicals with an overbloated ego

  • I love one word you used to sort of describe the small time middle eastern god "UNWORTHY".

  • Lol lamps

  • As always, very entertaining and informative. You articulate many things that I have thought but been unable to put in words so concisely and accurately. Whenever I wanted to relive that joy of discovering how thrilling science is, I used to go to 'Cosmos' and read some again. Now, I go to 'Cosmos', or I listen to one of your posts. Most enjoyable. Pray continue, good sir.

  • I love your videos; but many Christians do not take the Bible as a Science book. I'm not a Christian. Most Christians take the Abrahamic covenant as God speaking Abrahams vernacular.

  • Philhellenes you are to brilliant for this. you are like a genius panther playing with a retarded mouse. I would love you to drop the religious line and take a look at things like the Trilateral commission and how Edward Heath abolished treason laws saying "we dont use em" 3 months later we were in the EUSSR under the orders of david rockerfeller. the Middle east is messed up because of him and his friends and we will all up in a police state because of him. you make me proud of being human

  • Damn man. Every time i watch your videos i fall in love. You explain it so articulately and accurately. Keep doing what your doing!!

  • Damn man. Every time i watch your videos i fall in love. You explain it so articulately and accurately. Keep doing what your doing!!

  • Philhellenes, you mesmerize me and I want to have your children.

  • Oh.. So "God" didn't know that the Sun is actually a star.. earlier... oh, he must have learned that from science.....

  • 7*10^20 < 7*2^80 might be coded with 21 bytes.

And DNA has lots of gigabytes ( billions of bytes) . So amount of possible planets impacts very weakly the possibility of accidental life apearence.

  • @kukulis100 "amount of possible planets impacts very weakly the possibility of accidental life apearence."

Not true. ONE planet with random properties placed in orbit at a RANDOM distance from ONE random star is very VERY unlikely to have conditions suitable for life. BUT, with MANY different planets (different elemental compositions, temperatures, gravity fields, atmospheres etc) at random distances around MANY stars, the right conditions for life become more likely. You're lost in maths.

  • @kukulis100 The origin of life is probabilistic. But when the first living things (molecules, chains of nucleotides which replicate themselves) appeared, it was just matter of time to reach the genetic complexity that we have now. Through multiplication, mutation, recombination, and shaped by natural selection. We are the great great great... grandchildren of the first self-replicating molecules. Did life appear accidentally? Maybe. But we know it happened at least once. We're here, aren't we?

  • @rickg22

Well, my point of view is that God took participation in evolution process.

Each time, when the mutation was needed to make a new kind of life, God interfered to make needed mutation. The idea is that random mutation isn't enough to make a new species regardless the amount of billion years or zounds of stars; because the maths doesn't work for that random mutations.

There are jumps in DNA structures between species; the intermediate combinations are lifeless.

  • @kukulis100 It's curious how we use God to fill-in the gaps... nobody likes gaps. They're horrible. While religious people use them for apologetics, scientists use them to motivate further research. This is how science advances. One thing that always baffled me was how some animals appeared to suddenly develop adaptations for extreme climates, for example. A week ago the answer appeared in Nature magazine: Epigenetic memory. This is why I love science.

  • @rickg22

    Nice point of view.

But people often puts science in the place of the God. In the popular culture you can make people believe about almost everything you want if you present that as a result of the scientific research.

How mutch do we know? I think we know very small part of the physical world. There is no experiment to make a proof on the evolution theory, and all assumptions are based on archeological data and hypotheses.

  • @kukulis100 Wow, such a failed comment here...

What are your chances of flipping a coin to land on heads two consecutive times out of exactly two flips? What is your chance with 3 flips? 4 flips? 5 flips? How about billions and billions of flips? There are billions and billions of planets. Now rethink your logic please.

  • @iz2sicc If you would be a mathematician ( sorry for my english ) you would know a meaning of the counted and countless sets. You would also know a meaning of polynomial and exponential functionals.

That is if we compare variants of DNA to the size of universe, you would know that there is not so many atoms in the universe as there are variants of the DNA, as the amount of DNA if a exponential function and it could be treated as a countless set.

  • @kukulis100 You are wrong again. DNA changes. Mutations occur. So you are talking about possibilities here. The possible DNA variations might very well be infinite. What does this have to do with the number of atoms? Non sequitur. If there are in fact more DNA variations than atoms, what does this mean? All it means is that the chances of a rare DNA occurrence are greater than the chances of a rare Atom occurrence. Hence, YOU MAKE NO SENSE.

  • @iz2sicc Anyway I am not against evolution theory, but I do not agree that evolution happened without supreme beeing, as it is not possible in probabilities angle of view.

  • @kukulis100 Yea I agree. The omniscient, omnipotent Pink Unicorn unintelligently designed all stuffs.

  • I do share some of the thoughts in the video I often asked why did God create such a big universe for such a small planet. But I do also think that the video shows some incorrect interpretations. But then again that might be just our differences on interpreting scriptures

  • Lets say Humanity lives on for another 1000 years how much more will we know how much more advanced will we be. We in a thousand years time will look like Gods to us today As we probably would be like Gods to our ancients So if that's the case why Not a God so much more advanced that he created all things. Maybe will create Stars some day.

  • I coun't agree more. I would have said : Your Gods are too small :)

I came to your channel because I heard you on the Thinking Atheist.

And like someone said in a previous comment, I f....g suscribed ! :D

  • damnit why do people get on youtube and make videos bashing religions/not religions? like shit it only makes trouble.

  • It's absolutely beautiful!

  • i thank you for opening my eyes dude. great job

  • @gENFOOL There's a psychological thing called "confirmation bias", where we hear or see what we WANT to hear or see. We ALL have it, but the religious mind is riddled with such conclusions. For instance:

"...you know there is a God because you have said it yourself in previous videos..."

I have not said that. I know I have NOT said that for it is NOT what I think. Go back to the vid where you think I said that and listen with more care and concentration.

  • @gENFOOL I thought that was the quote from me you were referring to. :)

Again, you display confirmation bias AND thoughtlessness. I say "creator of some kind" and you hear "God". For instance, naturally evolved intelligences from another universe using technology to create universes are not, cannot be, "gods".

Your definition is cherry-picked. "...most often..."? No. ALWAYS. Gods are by definition ALWAYS supernatural. Gods are not bound by what is naturally possible, for they would not be gods.

  • @philhellenes

If evolved intelligences from another universe used technology to create an ENTIRE universe they surely have control over that universe. If they have the power to create it- that is supernatural and that is a God- as far fetched as it sounds you've just highlighted an example.

There is no explanation for whoever created THOSE universes- go back to the beginning- explain that, explain infinity...there is no way to- it is more difficult to disprove a god's existence than prove it.

  • @gENFOOL It is not for the atheists to disprove God. It is for theists to prove it. Which they didn't. As for the beginning: Current evidence supports that the space-time geometry of the universe is flat, making the universe essentially a zero sum game. Since the life time of a black hole with zero energy is zero, this would mean that the singularity at the beginning of the universe is inherently unstable. The universe is the ultimate free lunch. And infinity is not a thing. It's a process.

  • @TomFynn

"It is not for the atheists to disprove God. It is for theists to prove it. Which they didn't." That's a very stupid statement that does not really merit a reply- I can flip that right around and tell you it's your job to disprove

God as an aethiest. That's what you believe in...no God? so prove it?

I don't deny science or the laws of physics but there is always the question of where it all comes from- laws have to be defined.

Before you put down God theories prove all your own.

  • @gENFOOL It is impossible to prove a negative. See: Russells Teapot. However, what can be stated with absolute certainty is that we searched the universe from the quantum level to the surface of last scattering and never came upon evidence for God. Nor have the theists. They are too busy ramming “God” in to what ever parts of science they don’t understand.

If you want to bring up God, bring evidence. And I mean evidence. Not just “holes” in science.

  • @gENFOOL No you cant flip that around. Because theists are the ones who are making a positive statement, so THEY have to prove it. I can't sit here and say, "there is a dancing leprechaun on your head" and then tell you that YOU have to disprove it. That is just ridiculous.

  • @MrSwedenik Good luck to you getting this across. Hard core creationists and religious types see not being able to prove there ISNT a god as in fact total proof that a god exists. They completely ignore the fact the scale of evidence with multiple agreeing independent threads of theory and proof, is entirely on the side of science aside, from a couple of holy books with no evidentiary backing sitting on the other side of the scale for religion. I almost guarantee my prediction :D

  • @gENFOOL " I can flip that right around and tell you it's your job to disprove"

and you'd be WRONG. the onus of evidence is ALWAYS on the one making the claim. by YOUR idiot logic, if i said i had a 10K headed purple leprechaun in a box under my bed, it would be up to YOU to disprove it?! Your argument defeats itself. if i made such a claim, it would NOT be up to anyone else to disprove me, ergo the 10K headed leprechaun exists if you cannot! How can you not see how retarded you sound?

  • @gENFOOL "Before you put down God theories prove all your own."

a non sequitur if i ever heard one. One has got NOTHING to do with the other. 1st) god existing is NOT a scientific theory. 2nd) Theories work independent of one another. The theory of evolution is still valid whether or not gravity works as described by the theory of gravity. (and germs and atoms and relativity and electricity)

  • @philhellenes

We can run around in circles with this argument- I was rude in my first post and i apologize. I respect everything you say about the Universe and believe it. I just think you are quick to dismiss a God due to human behavior through religion- when I feel you are actually describing God in the infinity, beauty and creation of the universe.

  • @gENFOOL He actually says in other videos, and the top researchers on the planet now say the universe mostl likely evolved from a quantum fluctuation. But we canot know if it came from the result of a creator (not god, there is a difference). In this case, Phil is quite honest and says "I dont know" or "I may be wrong but". He admits there is a gap in his knowledge. Where your glaring and repeated error is saying you DO claim god unequivocally. You lie without knowing it.

  • @philhellenes One definition of God can be what was not created and a super being capable of anything. But if created beings can become like god Whats the difference If a man can become like a god with all knowledge and power.

  • @gENFOOL The universe is like God for it created or brought about all things

  • @gENFOOL Damn you got schooled. Lol.

  • @gENFOOL "You prove yourself that there is a God by pointing out the beauty and infinity of the universe."

    borders on the mental retardation.

there is no evidence that this HAS to come about by supernatural means when ALL the evidence we have available to us points to NATURAL explanations.

  • @philhellenes Whats the music at 9:49?

  • Thumbs up if you paused at 2:53 :P

  • thorough. concise. brilliant. hilarious. thank you, sir.

  • We could form a pretty kick ass belief system (notice how I don't say religion) on all your ideas. Finally atheism would be more than just a word meaning all the people who spit in your god's face. Maybe I'm just thinking too much about it. Let's stick with winning at battles of logic.

  • @philhelenes 8:38 Are those the pillars of creation?

  • 4:40 So boning = more stars? It says multiplying your seed multiplies stars so yeah...

  • Um... I have never heard the word "flim-flam," and I have lived all of my 16 years in America.

I think most people would call it "bullshit."

  • @crocswsocks It's an old term. I'm not surprised you've never heard it.

  • "...and in mathematical terms, this is called FAIL." LOL

  • I really need to go to a planetarium again one of these days. Love being able to see the stars even if it is just a simulation.

It is just difficult to see the real thing when living in a city, and we are not capable of space travel yet.

  • @Neosaigo Search for "3d Hubble Ultra deep field". :)

  • What you should highlight is how religion has destroyed the natural belief that humans posses and morphed it into a idol worshipping human cult thing. People always believed in that which makes things exist because we know something makes everything happen and what we call that now is nature. god and nature are one and the same, they both make everything happen and exist and that is all we need to know and care about. all the rest is nonsense that people make up themselves.

  • You know I liked your other video, it was really nice. But the only perspective you have of god is a religious one not a spiritual one, stop using religion to describe what god is and use your own common sense. Your not proving that there is no god, your just proving that the religious mainstream has the wrong idea of what god is. What they called god we now call nature and existence. you have to understand that god is just what everything comes from.

  • Phil, I really wanan ask. Religous sometimes tell you that studying Science is one thing. Studying God is another as it is supernatural, and natural laws cannot possibly confine the supernatural and as they claim, omnipotent God. I can sniff the bullshit in it from miles away but how do I respond to it?

  • @ImAnotherZang He has some great videos on that

How to fight a God and Why don't scientists Fear Hell? are the two. You should look them up.

  • @101Pilgrim I watched them for several times, even prior to making this comment. BUT after I made this comment I continued searching and I think Carl Sagan gave me the answer. Thanks anyway. Indeed, Phil's videos are inspirational.

  • @ImAnotherZang Oh, Carl Sagan. I recently watched the Cosmos clip on the Fourth Dimension. Good stuff.

  • @101Pilgrim Yes. Absolutely mesmerizing.

  • @ImAnotherZang Maybe responses like "Oh I see, they are beyond physical laws? Okay tell me how they made those laws then? How do they interact with a universe they are not a part of? How can they even stand in front of ppl if they cannot feel gravity? How can you see them if light cannot reflect off them?". You drag the bullshit you smell into the light by merely asking them to defend it and prove their claim. They cannot and usually end up hiding behind "you CANT DISPROVE IT!!!! :'("

  • @ImAnotherZang and when they say that, and they will because it is THE only corner left to them after you shoot down the supernatural, you say what Phil here says "I am merely saying there is no dragon here guys" and they will say "prove it". Then you have the opportunity to educate them on the fallacy of proving a negative, and showing them while their god does not do anything, science daily gives us applications and shows us exactly how its done. Why cant their god do this simple thing?

  • @shkotay ...wow. Thank you.

  • @ImAnotherZang Well I hope it helped! I know a few ppl mentioned some good stuff anf Phils vids do a far better job if explaining it then I do :D But you have tons of ways of calling them on their stuff. Point out the giant holes in the supernatural stuff.

  • Interesting that you say God is obsessed with only one spieces on one planet...considering we have no proof as of yet that there are other intelligent life forms on any other planets, I would say that it only hurts the argument you are trying to make. As far as the promises made to Abraham, are you certain that there will not be eventually that many Christians over the course of human's time in the universe? Are you implying that you know the future?

  • Where did you get the picture at around 10:25?

    it is just beautiful.

  • My son was diagnosed with leukaemia at 20 months old... was he a bad person? Why should such a young child suffer and die as he did? You are a tired example of the blind hatred that christians believe in in the name of Jesus Christ. How dare you!

  • @lianap11 My deepest condolences for your sons suffering and death, but ShinWRI appeared to be talking with sarcasm and irony. At least I hope he was because if he was serious then hes simply insane or trolling. It was in bad taste however it was done.

  • Why are you doing this it makes no since the bible is a true book. And only one God Harry Potter. With his magic wand he will punish you Athiest to jelly beans. Don't need Scientist or modern Doctors cancer are for bad people God gave it for them to suffer and die.. why save some one that got struck by Lightning God did it cause its his time to die.

  • @ShinWR1 damn troll

  • Amazing Video! Eloquent and Beautiful!

  • Ever notice how the end of the world is always just a few years in the future? Then when the day comes and goes and we are still here, all of a sudden, there's another end of the world just a few years in the future.

  • tsimon1234 ,

That's because you would have to be the entire sum total of existence in order to. And that simply is not possible. It's also why omniscience is a logical fallacy. :)

  • @TheJackelantern You have to highlight and click the "reply" button to the right to reply to specific people. just fyi. rock on... lol

  • @derman077

mistakes happen, and I don't use YoutTube very often. In fact the number of posts I have ever made probably number fewer than 100 over several years. :)

  • * My mind can understand the absence of literal nothing, and the absence of no capacity.

  • your videos are soooooooo fuckin good

  • i was just curius.. how was ur life as atheist? are you happy? do you have a good job or family? are you successful? im really just curius dude ^__^

  • atheism is madness, good luck atheists, good luck, youll need it.

  • @imapisces23

Good luck for what, exactly? Please, do tell.

  • @ShanyiBacsi Good luck for experiencing all that is.

  • @imapisces23 If I am honest, I don't want to experience all that is. So far as we can tell the Universe is infinitely large. If my brain were to try and "experience" that it would overload, break down and drive me insane. No-one can deal with the infinite. It's just too big for our minds to handle. So, with that in mind, I'm cool with experiencing as much as I can, I'll leave "all that is" to those with a death-wish. :) :P

  • @tsimon1234

Actually I can understand the infinite. I do not need to imagine the size, I only need to understand why there are no boundaries to which could limit it's size. I only need to take a moment to understand that the capacity of non-existence to exist is an impossible. My mind can understand they absence of nothing, and the absence of no capacity. For this no boundary I can think of could exist, and thus I can come to understand the infinite nature of reality, of existence itself.

  • @TheJackelantern I too can understand infinity as a concept. It's a rather simple one. But if your mind were to try and "experience all that is", IE: Process and commit to memory, you brain would break down. It is not the concept we cannot handle. It is the actual thing itself. Which is why I was saying we cant do it to the religious nut who said we could.

  • Phil is a great speaker/teacher. Watched almost all day one time.

  • this is why i hate religion makes people think theres not a god a bunch of people with faith hoping for heaven. but spirituality is different. this is a legit question for an atheist do you believe you have a soul i have always wanted to ask that? not to say my opinion is better than anyones

  • Just amazing...

  • Excellent as always.

Also, I've never heard any of my fellow Americans use the word "flim-flam."

  • 2:53 had me crying

First because I was laughing so hard.

Second because I realised people really are that closed minded.

  • Although I also see your point that saying Christianity automatically covers Judaism, since they believe in the old and new testaments. It always seemed to me that Judaism had the advantage bec Jews base their beliefs on the idea that many ppl heard the word of god on Mt. Sinai, as opposed to just a handful of ppl witnessing the miracles of Jesus- whom Christians base their entire belief system on. I think it's undeniable that Christians put a lot more emphasis on the new testament.

  • I just always thought logic dictated that since Judiasm was the original religion as "god" intended it and was claimed to come directly from him, then Christianity had a much higher chance of being the perversion or misinterpretation of mankind years later.

  • @michaelgorby

    in reality they both are...

  • Amazing and inspiring videos, please keep them coming!

I am curious to know why Phil never mentions Judaism. He only seems to reference Christianity and Islam...

  • @michaelgorby personally Christinity felt like a spin-off from Judaism, especially when their old testament is the Torah, or whichever the jews use. well the orthodox jews are so off that phil maybe stopped trying altogether. or perhaps he just didnt have time. id be sure he'd have no problem doing that tho

  • I thought a magician, a wise 'ard ( wizard ) and a scientists were essentially the same thing!?!,...L.O.L

  • Okay, you present some good points.

I would like to ask a couple of questions, though. And I'm just honestly curious to know what you think.

In Genesis, chapter 22, verse 17, you discuss the quote about multiplying seeds as stars in the sky and sand on the shore.

Looking at the time these people lived, first of all, they could not have truly known the size of the earth, nor had been able to estimate the number of stars in the sky or sand on the shore.

  • Also, this book was written by a man. It was not a divine work, as the Bible claims the Ten Commandments were. It almost seems to me that you are ignoring the fact that this book was written by a man who was appointed by God to deliver his interpretation of the message.

My final argument is that you seem to be targeting the creationist ideas alone. I am a catholic, but I follow a belief of scientific harmony with religion. That is, the big bang and all of its repercussions occurred,

  • but the probability of life forming is too small for mere coincidence. In this sense, all of your arguments are valid, but they do not do much in the way of fighting my belief.

And I apologize for being so disjointed, but there was one other thing I wanted to say. Relating back to my first post, if the seeds of man had multiplied as the stars in the sky, the earth would have to be so huge that it could support that much life. To have a carrying capacity of 70 sextillion humans, I imagine

  • That the earth would be approximately 5.83 * 10^12 times bigger than it is now (based on the fact that the earth has a current human carrying capacity of 12 billion), making it larger than the sun we are orbiting now. Much larger. Scientifically, this seems to be a near impossibility.

Do you have any thoughts on that? I am honestly curious to know what you think.

  • @leftylegend9 hey lefty im having trouble understanding your question. you seem to agree with the facts from the video but then defend them because they did not know the size of the earth nor the amount of sand on the planet. you then seem to complain that your bond of religion and science has not been broken by the argument. then you exclaim the size of planet neeed to acoomodate 70 sextillion humans.... but this isnt being argued?!?! im very confused. maybe ive misinterpreted?

  • The stars are on our side. And every other single piece of scientific evidence. I think our side's looking pretty strong.

  • countless? i prefer the word "infinite"... or is there a problem?

  • You're the only other person I've seen on YT who has said exactly what I think, that if a creative intelligence is behind everything, it isn't what theists assume. It would be a technology driven by a science which is ancient!.

I don't know if you'd agree with this, although I suspect u may...I also think there's a strong possibility that we could be in a virtual reality, so perfectly created that we'd never know, not yet anyway. Initially, that technology would be indistinguishable from a god.

  • @Cootabux What evidence do you have to think this is a strong possibility?

  • Best videos I have ever seen! NOMA is nonsense. No answers in religion. Psychology, physics, biology, mathematics, philosophy, chemistry, sociology, etc. will give us answers stranger and more beautiful than anything you can imagine ...

  • 70 Sextillion... @.@

  • Philhellene's videos should be required material in all school science classes.

  • WOW I have to show this to my DAD... He drove everyone he loved away, for what.... a religion, that he thinks is the right one, (the only way). There are currently only 20,000 people in this (one and only religion). Who says any ones right? no one can be right because nobody know the truth and as far as any one knows, no one will. Thank You for bringing a new prospective on life...

  • Now it's up to 300 sextillion stars. :)

  • 2 billion Christians today?.... are you forgetting all the centuries previous ?

  • And here you actually brought up a good point that you didn't quite talk about, not that you never did, but maybe in other videos. Who wrote the Bible? Where did it come from? Does it come from God? How do we know? God, didn't write the Bible, Christians did. So before you Atheists even try to recite the Bible, let me say this: I have no interest in listening to the words of some Medieval Scribe who wrote this book and then claimed it as the word of "our" So-called "God".

  • I watched this while high.

    Fuckin subscribed.

  • @pythor2 hahaha yes.

  • @pythor2 hahha gotta try that out

  • Okay, I did it! I didn't? Okay then, why should I care?

  • Realize that it wasn't until a bare 90 years ago that we knew there were more galaxies than just one. We could see Andromeda galaxy, but there was no reason to believe that it was different from any of the hundreds of nebula that *are* within the milky way, which one can see with a pair of binoculars.

  • those laughs scared me

    good argumentss

  • the sun is a star so it will eventually die. when?

  • @iRydiC In about 5 billion years.

  • @Sharagran Thanks for the reply. so if in the way we dont kill each other with wars and what not, in 5 billion years humanity will probably vanish?

won't be here for the time it happens but its just curiosity :-)

  • @iRydiC That depends, if we're still there in 5 billion years, our descendants would probably have spread across the entire galaxy, perhaps we'll be part of some sort of intergalactic community. Who knows?

If we stop polluting our Earth and stop killing each other over petty reasons, there's a lot of untapped potential within us, waiting to be unleashed.

  • Superb work. Thank You.

  • I think comparing the number of stars to the number of sands in the desert is pretty good anyway :) i agree with the rest.

  • Seriously, I'm agnostic, but that was crappy.

  • I think Jesus may very well have a space ship! Well done!

  • it would take more than 70 sextillion seconds x at least 1000000000.

  • The stars are on are side?

Hmm...only in some relations to them.

  • ok well what the hell are ghost??

  • @fidefreestyle what are ghosts? what are dragons, or fairies, or rods, or leprachauns.... Creations of the mind.

  • @TheKturner05 well when you see shit move like when you fuck with the ouija board. but yeah i get what you are saying about the other stuff.

  • @fidefreestyle what the ouija board things move its causes somebody ist moving it

  • @Lemonz1989

So it's honestly much more like .0000001 % of stuff, and I was just making a point with the 1% term.

If Einstein was so enamored by the perfect mathematical fine tuning of our universe that he declared it had to have a creator (though he didn't buy into the Christian version of God), I'll take his word along with the experiences of millions of people over thousands of years.

  • @alexchavez777 By "god" he simply referred to the mathematical structures that govern this universe, purely impersonal, purely unconscious formulas. Naturally believers cherry pick Einstein on that peculiar choice of words, as if some bits of his name's glamour could rub off on them. But it doesn't. Read it up, if you are honest to yourself: he didn't believe in a personal god.

  • @alexchavez777

"Einstein..our universe that he declared it had to have a creator"

Are you actually familiar with what Einstein says on the matter?

"I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists"

Hmm, now Spinoza's concept of 'god' is actually quite obtuse; god as nature, pantheism, etc? But one thing is clear; Spinoza's god is NOT an intelligence.

You really use Einstein's interpretation of Spinoza's muddled atheism/pantheism as 'evidence?'

    Really?

  • @Lemonz1989

Percentages can be seen as a huge amount if you think about how "big" it is compared to us. It's a tiny amount when thought of the percentage of everything.

Fine Tuning of the Physical Constants of the Universe

    Parameter and Max. Deviation

    Ratio of Electrons:Protons 1:10to the 37th power

Ratio of Electromagnetic Force:Gravity 1:10 to the 40th

Expansion Rate of Universe 1:10 to the 55th

    Mass of Universe1 1:10 to the 59th

Cosmological Constant 1:10 to the 120th

  • Religious people look up at the stars and think "Wow, god put those there for me."

Scientists look up at the stars and think "Wow, I'm such a small part of this universe."

  • The sandwiches upon the seashore? (4:16)

  • Beautiful.

Most theists must anger God by calling his science, "magic".

IF, a BIG IF, he existis.

  • I've just realised from watching this that everyone knows who the creator of the universe is! Our parents.

They created us and our perception to see the beauty of all that is around us.

Religion misses sight of this fact!

  • The Bible, the Torah, and the Qu'ran were obviously written at a time when people really didn't have a clue as to what stars really were. They probably thought that those stars in the night sky were just these mysterious tiny points of light revolving around the Earth, and that God probably put them there for some reason. If you tell them that most of the stars they see are actually distant suns, and that a few of them are in fact other worlds, they would say that you're crazy.

  • @Akira625 Also the Andromeda galaxy within the Andromeda constellation is visible it looks like a fuzzy star but is actually probably billions, imagine how crazy that would sound to a bronze age desert dweller. It could be argued that God in all his wisdom knew if it was explained more precisely it would be to confusing for them to understand. However I think the curiosity of man generally prevails over any lame explanation

  • @robvlob indeed, you'd have to invent the idea of a billion. it'd blow peoples minds.

  • [Nitpick] Actually, God would only need one sun, one planet, and one moon. The moon is there to keep the tides running smoothly. [/Nitpick] The rest of the video is awesome. :)

  • @OutlawGrrl I think that is what he is saying, that the existence of more than one sun, planet, moon goes more to proving that there isn't a god, if there was only one of each, that would be a better backup to belief in a god.

  • "We cannot believe in a god that makes knowledge an obstacle to belief." That was so perfectly put. I have often told my still-Christian wife that if there IS a supreme Prime Mover in the universe, that traditional religions literally insult the concept by reducing it to our own human pettiness. Your video captures the essence of how I see things totally spot-on.

  • 100 stars=

Got me laughing. xD Lovely video as old as it may seem.

  • 2:53 repeat after me, "mysterious ways, mysterious ways..." and stop asking me questions and of course god's plan makes sense, and no, you can't have a science book for your birthday, and no, i don't know how far away alpha centauri is, or what a light year is, because all i need to know is that the stars are pretty and jesus made every one of them and NO! jesus does NOT have a SPACESHIP! and if you don't shut up satan will get into you and you won't get any supper! (and keep praying) LMAO!

  • this argument really got me

if there is a creator, we're insulting him/her/it by assigning it such a petty stupid image

    thank you for that insight
