It's my opinion, but I think that the more relaxed tempo and lower-key chords give the song a much more resonant, fuller sound. That said, great job. I'd love to hear that on a twelve-string if you ever got your hands on one.
@waylong53 Ehhhermmm, You may be aware of something I'm not, and clearly the uploader also says this is a 12 string, but all I have to do is look at the pegs on the headstock and the bridge to see that there's only 6. Also, it just doesn't sound like one. I dunno, I guess I shouldn't argue with the person who recorded it but there's clearly only 6 tuning pegs on that headstock.
@yelodish92 I never said I recorded this on a 12-string, because I didn't! :) As you said too, it is a 6 string. The original song by The Decemberists, however, has a 12-string guitar included...
@Picaresque19 I'm just looking at your reply to codyt11183's comment where you say "on this one, 12-string"... maybe you're talking about the original Decemberists song?
Oh my god! This was a beautiful cover; I love how even though the speed didn't change, your voice gave it a feel of it's own. First time I heard this song, I bawled, and after hearing your cover of it, it made me cry again! In a good way!
Colin would defiantly be proud to have this cover.
I really enjoyed this. Your guitar work was excellent, and your voice, though not always perfect, had a nice tonality to it. I especially liked how you sang 'mourn' in the chorus, the first time in particular. Well done.
Hehe, actually that "mourn"-part in the chorus is probably my favorite moment of this song in the Decemberists version. So, I'm glad you like how I did it! :)
Excellent cover. Colin Meloy and The Decemberists are my favorites. Just saw in in Boston last month, fantastic. Yours is the best cover I've ever seen!
Wow, thank you! They are among my absolute favorites as well, I saw them in Berlin last fall. It was amazing. Mindblowing :) I wish I could see one of Colin's solo shows sometimes, but he doesn't seem to go to Europe for those.. Sadly!
quicker paced, different ~
happens to be my fave of theirs
you do the song justice
carry on

Not bad at all. Nice changes from the original with the speed. Makes it more your own. Well done!
*note*- In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Thanks! By the way, the speed doesn't change, it's just that I sing in a higher octave the second verse.. :)

this is so good! i really like how the tempo picks up at the second verse.
ktdidntdoit 3 years ago
Does the tempo pick up at the second verse? :) Maybe.. I was just trying to sing it an octave higher to give it some variation. Anyway, thanks a lot!
Picaresque19 3 years ago
It's definitely just higher, no tempo change. Pretty good cover.
