My chainsaw leaks oil. I open the plastic cas and oil has dripped in the case or on the floor, when left over nite. The chainsaw runs great with no signs of oil leaking.
@raceman888 adjust the idle SPEED screw in until it will stay running, then adjust the Idle MIXTURE screw until you get the highest RPM, then back off the SPEED screw, till it will idle without the chain moving. adjust the HIGH at full throttle, until you get the highest RPM, then back it out just a touch. he didn't even mention that did he?
I have a 220le and it ran fine for the first season i bought it. now it starts fine but dies quickly. I am wondering where I should start in trying to get it running again.
Dony - thanks for the great video! Challenge I'm having is saw starts great - runs ggod, but starts to rev up high after a few minutes - and continues to rev full speed after i let off the throttle and even hit the kill switch - only way to stop it is hit the choke - any ideas?
Thanks for your knowledge Dony. I just rebuilt the Walbro carb on my Wild Thing and am trying to adjust the carb. When It starts, it revs high for a few seconds and then dies. I've tried adjusting the L and the H, but can't get it to idle. Also, when it's running warm if I go full throttle, it runs good for a bit and then dies. Any ideas?
Dony, Your video are great. I'm almost there. I replace the gas cap, the purger, the diaphrams and the hoses are correct on my 2150. I turned the H& L all the way in then backed them off. Its starts, but then craps out after a few seconds. I also pulled the muffler & cleaned the screen. The only thing i didnt do was replace the punch outs and pins. I even added a little more gas to the mixture because I thought there was to much oil. Any help will be appreciated.
Dony, I have a 2150, hoses rotted, replaced them, cleaned carb, etc. Can get it started but dies when I open throttle. Turned l & H screws all the way to carb, backed off 1 1/2 then 2 then 2 1/2. Only starts when I spray quick start. I had it running but then dies. please HELP.
@donyboy73 When I replaced the melted lines, the dealer gave my a black line for the thick one to the filter. The return is clear and sticks in about an inch with no end. There are lots of bubble in that line cant tell with the black. my cap leaks, my red purge doesnt pop right out when pushed. Im replacing both.
I only removed the top gasket (1 screw) and cleaned out the gunk. Should I do the same with the bottom?? should I replace the filter too??
@donyboy73 Also, I was talking to my neighbor who is in the tree cutting business (he didnt sound interested in showing me what he was talking about ) and he said to look at the muffler (some screen that gets clogged) any advise.
Dony I'm trying to sharpen my chain saw chain.on the poulan chain what angle and depth do these chains get sharpen at..I just tried to shapen on at a 35 degree angel and 0 degree depth.but not sure if that right.
I tried this but it doesn't work for me. When I try to go full throttle the chainsaw(Homelite 33cc Powerstroke) stalls even if I go gently. I can get it to idle OK with the Low screw backed out all the way, but that as far as I can get. It's been like this ever since it was a few months old.
Donboy on that walbor carb, right at the top of it theres that philps head screw. Now right under that cover there is a little hole with a cap in it.thats what i found that had dirt in it.and I guess thats why when I ran the fuel lines the primer buld would stick. So do you know what that little hole with the cap in it, is called
@donyboy73 thanks posting this video. It was very helpful. Is there a name of that tool you are using to adjust the screws with? Or can you post a link to were you mention buying them online? You could have done this video in French, oui? Also, as a safety precaution can you take the chain or bar off while you test the adjustments? Thanks again.
@danocarvalho bonjour, it would be unsafe to run it without the bar and chain as the clutch could come off. you can buy the tool at mowers4u dot com, it's the splined tool for poulans
Hi, I have a craftsman chainsaw, and have changed the piston ring, checked the compression, cleaned the carb and put a new carb kit, checked the spark plug and sparks good, had put new air filter and new gas filter .... it starts well but when I pull the trigger to full, it drowns, if have ideas I will take them. Thanks.
@donyboy73 ... yes, but nothing, I closed both bolts and open half of a turn and tried a lot of combinations but nothing ... maybe, is the carb just died in the line of duty?
@donyboy73 .... Ok I will do it, so other question, the excess of oil in the gasoline mix, will cause that the engine will drown when I pull the trigger to full?
Thanks for answering my questions, is good to have an engine doctor (so far far far away)
I tried adjusting the carb on my poulan and i get it sounding good at high revs but when i let of the gas it will not idle. and ive adjusted the idle screw aswell. any ideas would be greatly apreciated!
my 2150 is hard to start cold. I have to open up the low idle fuel mixture screw about 1/2 turn to get it too start. it has 120 psi of compression. and a new carborator. all new fuel line, new ful filter pick up ,
I just ran through every step in your video. I finally runs like it should. You saved me a couple hundred $. Was about to throw it out. figured after 5 years of use it was time....NOPE! Runs like a champ. Thanks for the vid
Hi , I have one of the first Poulan Wildthing 18" 42 c.c. saws with a Walbro carb. I have used, and abused this saw and actually cut firewood with it . It runs strong and is very dependable . I know it can't last forever so I'm looking at Husqvarna as a replacement . Everyone tells me they are the same saw . Is this true ? If so which doo you reccomend . Thanks for sharing !
@MrPalvis 1st take off the muffler and look at the piston and rings to make sure they aren't scored, it could be that ur compression is too low, check that first, it doesn't cost anything
My unit ran perfectly until after I replaced fuel lines and a mechanic thought it needed a carb adjustment. He really fouled it up. I was about to pitch my 16 year-old Poulan because it was running like crap. No power and would not idle. A friend let me use his new Poulan and the chain kept coming off due to of that easy bar adjustment. No way do I want a new chainsaw with that feature. Anyway, I referred to your video and now my trusty old Poulan is working like a champ again. Thank you!
I tried your adjustments and now have my 3400 is running well as long as the choke is in the half on position. When I push the choke all the way in, the engine will not rev up. It acts like it is overloaded. If I pull the choke out half way, it revs up great. How to get it to run with the choke off?
Haha, I rebuilt the carburetor and it still acts the same, (seems rich at full throttle) now I need the tool to adjust the mixture and I don't have one! waaaaaa!!
Carb adjustment didn't do it. If the carb adapter behind the carburetor is cracked or broken(I'm sure I overtorqued), could this be the cause of the over revving?
I just changed out all my fuel lines . Now, when I start my chainsaw it revs real high and won't come down. I know I have all the lines connected correctly. Is it possible to have used to big of a fuel line from the primer to the carb(getting to much fuel?)? If not, what's the problem?

@pdrom100 as long as the line fits on the connector i wouldn't worry about it, make sure though the lines are tight on the connector. also check carb adjustment
@pdrom100 ....there may be a fuel line throttle linkage interference issue, I found that out today, and had to route the fuel line on the other side so the throttle rod would move in its full travel without problems
I have the exact same chainsaw in this video with the exact same problem but my question is whats a good starting point for both of the high and low screws from starting with them screwed all the way in thanks for your help
@donyboy73 Okay i got it to idle correctly but when i go to give it gas it kinda doesnt do like a normal one does its like somethings choking it out are somethin what screw do i turn the low one are high one
i have a saw exactly like that, that normally starts, but wont run right, ill hit the trigger after it warms up and itll bog down and shut off, almost like the chain is locked, but it's not itll spin freely, i think it might not be getting enough fuel, what do you think?
I've had one of these since 1997. I've never done anything to it except abuse it. It's by far the most reliable $149 saw I've ever seen. I run suicide chain (anti kickback and depth guides removed) on it and it just jeeps going. It cuts dirt metal rock and I just replace the chain when it's toothless or snapped. It's strictly a junker for me. My Husqvarna's Stihls and Jonsered never get abused. I'll have to try tuning up the ole beast. Thanks
Quick question for you. I have a poulin 42 cc and its about 3 or 4 years old but Little use over all. just recently Im finding it difficult to turnover. Sometimes it will turnover smoothly and start, but most times it's turns over rough and hard and wont start as if too much compression, (is that possible?)
@donyboy73 Thank you for answering my question so quickly. Greatly appreciate it! I will go ahead and check the coil and fly wheel to see if they are rubbing like you said. But is there a specific setting/space distance between the 2? (Sorry, Im somewhat new to this)
Hey, I bought a chainsaw a fewdays ago and it worked perfect untill yesterday. anyways it didnt startup so I unsrewed the exhaust and the spark plug and alot of gas came out of the celinder. so I cleaned up the sparkplug and the celinder and put everything back together. it started for like two seconds than but didnt worked even if I hodled the throttle to maximum and also the gas started to came out of the carburetor. is there anything that can fix that thing cuz this rly sux. Thanks, great vids
What causes my chain to continue to turn when the saw is on idle. Its a Homelite. I replaced the clutch & increased the throttle speed. Did not touch the L or the H screws. I thought I had it, but then the chain started to creep again on idle. Do I need to keep increasing the throttle speed.
Hi buddy. thanks for the tips. ill try it but what im thinking is wrong with my baja 5b its the same wollabo carb it dose not want to fire up at all got blisters trying to start it theres not enough spark to the plugs
Dony, I interested that didn't sound very rich to me, but it obviously was. I was wondering when you reved the engine were you barely pushing the trigger and heard it racing and that's why it apperared rich? I understand the concept, but I also usually hear the sound as well.
Great instructions. 5 STAR! Got a question about a fuel line tank on a gas trimmer.
What material do you use to seal the fuel line where it exits the top of the tank? This thing has leaked fuel since new and I've tried to seal it with silicon but the fuel and oil mix seems to leak through and it usually drips enough to get all over me when I use it.
I have the same saw and when it runs and i give it gas it bogs and i tried to adjust the carb but even at its best it will run and cut but still soung like its bogging. What could be wrong? Does it need a kit?
@bbplayer546 could be a host of problems but firast check the idle screw then make sure the intake boot , if it has one, isn't cracked. they tend to crack on the stihls and cause that problem
hi thanks for the great videos dony I have been running these poulans for years and had good service but here lately ive had nothing but trouble blowed one a few days ago I think the new ones are junk the same with huskies i blowed one of them this year to. im either having bad luck or the new poulans and huskies are junk thank you ps just my thoughts
Great Job! People like you deserve praise for the help you spread online. This is type of learning is what Television promised, but money rules truth in corporate land. And "designed-in complexity" alienates most "would be" do -it -yourselfers. Help keep people smart. Bravo Dude!
@sxr951 I have a poulan doing that too.I took a wire wheel to mine it helped.also a freind has one doing it he puts some bar oil on it .seems like it helps thank you
@sxr951 me and a freind have a couple doing that too. I took a wire wheel to the gas cap and also before I put it on I poor soom bar oil on it thank you
Have a sthil concrete saw starts ok and idels fine but when you start cuting with it it dies and cuts out its not that old and looks in good nick any suggestions thanks roy
How far away should the coil be from the flywheel. I had someone put a new coil on it and they put it too close.. Now there is score marks on the flywheel. Will that cause any issues?
Would scorred cylinders or too much oil in the gas cause bogging? I let my stupid neighbor borrow my weed eater brand weed eater for a little while and he revved the piss out of it ( full for like 45 seconds at a time) because no string came out ($@#$ dumbass) it has one of those stupid carbs that you cant adjust and ever since its been bogging and dying... Any ideas?
When I got the saw started (1 1/2 out on high and low) the saw wanted to bog when I pulled the throttle but was idling fast. I noticed the idle srew was not even enguaging the linkage yet. I turned out the low screw until the idle dropped to very slow idle. I brought the idle back up with the idle screw. That solved the bog. I also turned out the high screw until it 4-cycled just a little at full throttle. This should go away when putting some torque on the saw actually cutting wood.

I have the WT 324 walbro carb. Replaced the fuel lines. Now, gas pours out everywhere.....coming out of the muffler. The external fuel bulb is hooked to the lower carb feed tube and the fuel line with clunk filter is hooked to the upper feed. The upper feed is the one that has the phillips screw cover on it. There is a fuel screen under this cover. What may I have hooked up wrong?
@ethanolsucks666 did gas pour out before? loosen the fuel cap then tighten it again in case the cap isn't venting. don't prime it too much or it will do what u mentioned. try that and let me know before going further
@donyboy73 I have a stihl 028 with a tillotson carb. I ajusted the H and L screws for the saw to idle but the saw is burning rich and blowing the fuel mix into the air filter and the saw is blowing smoke. I was thinking of buying a kit for the carb as the saw wasn't used in a long time. Do you think that the new diaphragm would solve the smoking and fuel problem?
Continued from previous post. I also replaced the primer/purge bulb. One side of the bulb goes to the tank vent and the other side goes to the carb. The filter line goes to the carb also. My problem is I do not know which barb on the carb is to be connected to filter line and which is to be connected to the bulb
The barbs are on opposite sides. There really is no top or bottom. That's kinda the issue. On the WT324, both are on the same side so yes one is on the top
Just to let everyone know if a vendor substitutes an 891 for the 324, the filter line goes to the barb on the right side. Mine is now working great. It had been in a basket for about 7 or 8 years.
Great series of demos. I have watched from removal to adjustment. One comment about the video - why did you disconnect the choke from the carb. I found it easier, and less likely to break, if it is just lifted out of the notch.
I purchased a new carb for my Poulan 2150. It had a Wt 324. However, I was sent a WT 891 as a replacement. Is this the same carb? I have had it on and off several times. I cannot get it to work. To be continued.
I have a poulan wild thing chainsaw it's pretty new, but I'm scared to floor it becuase it seems to be running WAY too fast, and I don't want it to explode :S
My poulan is doing the same thing you can crank it and rev it a couple times and it will die and its brand new so ill have to do this tomorrow and check it out
My chainsaw leaks oil. I open the plastic cas and oil has dripped in the case or on the floor, when left over nite. The chainsaw runs great with no signs of oil leaking.

pdrom100 1 year ago
@pdrom100 as long as the line fits on the connector i wouldn't worry about it, make sure though the lines are tight on the connector. also check carb adjustment
donyboy73 1 year ago
@pdrom100 ....there may be a fuel line throttle linkage interference issue, I found that out today, and had to route the fuel line on the other side so the throttle rod would move in its full travel without problems

I have the exact same chainsaw in this video with the exact same problem but my question is whats a good starting point for both of the high and low screws from starting with them screwed all the way in thanks for your help

i have a saw exactly like that, that normally starts, but wont run right, ill hit the trigger after it warms up and itll bog down and shut off, almost like the chain is locked, but it's not itll spin freely, i think it might not be getting enough fuel, what do you think?

RickciD 1 year ago
@RickciD i would have to physically see it, also check that the coil isn't rubbing on the flywheel
donyboy73 1 year ago
@donyboy73 Thank you for answering my question so quickly. Greatly appreciate it! I will go ahead and check the coil and fly wheel to see if they are rubbing like you said. But is there a specific setting/space distance between the 2? (Sorry, Im somewhat new to this)
Cheers!

Hi;
What causes my chain to continue to turn when the saw is on idle. Its a Homelite. I replaced the clutch & increased the throttle speed. Did not touch the L or the H screws. I thought I had it, but then the chain started to creep again on idle. Do I need to keep increasing the throttle speed.
Thanks! Your videos are really good!

Thanks and keep up the good work!

i have a question about a carberator problem im having on my Stihl 045 saw. when i leave it on idle it runs to high. how do i fix that?
bbplayer546 1 year ago
@bbplayer546 could be a host of problems but firast check the idle screw then make sure the intake boot , if it has one, isn't cracked. they tend to crack on the stihls and cause that problem

What may I have hooked up wrong?
ethanolsucks666 1 year ago
@ethanolsucks666 did gas pour out before? loosen the fuel cap then tighten it again in case the cap isn't venting. don't prime it too much or it will do what u mentioned. try that and let me know before going further
donyboy73 1 year ago
@donyboy73 I have a stihl 028 with a tillotson carb. I ajusted the H and L screws for the saw to idle but the saw is burning rich and blowing the fuel mix into the air filter and the saw is blowing smoke. I was thinking of buying a kit for the carb as the saw wasn't used in a long time. Do you think that the new diaphragm would solve the smoking and fuel problem?
cattlewrangler 1 year ago
@cattlewrangler turn in the L screw to make it run leaner, if all fails try a new kit
donyboy73 1 year ago
Continued from previous post. I also replaced the primer/purge bulb. One side of the bulb goes to the tank vent and the other side goes to the carb. The filter line goes to the carb also. My problem is I do not know which barb on the carb is to be connected to filter line and which is to be connected to the bulb
poordueto401k 1 year ago
@poordueto401k i believe the filter line from the tank goes on the top connector of the carb
donyboy73 1 year ago
Donyboy,
The barbs are on opposite sides. There really is no top or bottom. That's kinda the issue. On the WT324, both are on the same side so yes one is on the top
poordueto401k 1 year ago
@poordueto401k mine has the wt324, so u may have to just try both and see what happens
donyboy73 1 year ago
Just to let everyone know if a vendor substitutes an 891 for the 324, the filter line goes to the barb on the right side. Mine is now working great. It had been in a basket for about 7 or 8 years.
poordueto401k 1 year ago
@poordueto401k thanks

Donyboy ,
Great series of demos.
