This song is so fucking amazing on acid especially this part!!!!! You lose where you are and feel like somethings gonna happen and then BAM! you start to smile and feel so fucking happy the happiest you've ever felt!!!!
Oh yeah, I definitely know that. The Madcap album is classic and someday I'll have to purchase it. I was just curious about whether or not he kept his guitar and continued to jam around privately in his abode that he hid out in for the remaining years of his life. If he was as insane as my ex-brother, he probably sold everything, totally gave up on music and pawned off his equipment, never touching it again. My ex-brother is kinda like Syd without the drugs.
Und für mich immer wieder eine Performance, die mich die Qualen der heutigen Arbeitswelt und des damit verbundenen Stresses vergessen lässt.... Yeah, die Altmeister des Psychedelic-Rock sollen hoch leben!

@StinkiwinkiPoo This is the sound techniques version with the actual footage of Barrett playing IOD on it. It would be rather silly to dub 9 minutes of studio music over 17 minutes of footage now wouldn't it?
That was awesome, part one and part two....pure musical insanity, and sort of has a way of drawing me in and making it impossible to do anything else because I'm so focused on the awesome music and the video is awesome as well.
I tripped to this on my parent's floor with my head between 2x30w (line output) speakers. They were not amused in the early '70's I didn't care - I was too stoned
@merseymain Well, I wasn't LOOKING for anything, no, but I did actually watch the video, and there were some topless chicks in it (Interspersed with magazine covers about swinging London and messages from Billy Graham about moral depravity.) I was just making a joke as to why it got a million hits and hardly anyone bothered to watch this one, the second part. Which is too bad, cause it's pretty damn sexy, musically anyway.

Fantastic song, so trippy, such attention in the little details, The Floyd are not my favorite band for nuthing. <3
@ 1ndi64 What the hell, man?? I seriously don't get why Davy should die, I mean, his last album was a pretty gud experiment at tranquility and he even went as far as laying Remember a Day for Rick's passing, a song I thought I'd never hear from any remaining member of my life! Yes, I might be 20 and totally drunk but I still stay impartial to the fact that Gilmour must live! D:
I think Syd is so amazing,he was a musical genious! he did things never done before and for that time(1966)that was a GAS! Today it's his birthday,I wish he was here...R.I.P.
AHH god when they went back to the main riff i had SOOO much chills shooting in me, it was amazing. And no u dont need drugs to appreciate them, i never did drugs, dont plan to, but i can still get high off this music
i dont know but when jimi hendrix makes noises it sounds like the armageddon (even his guitar burning sounds amazing) but this doesnt mean anything. noise is meaningful in many works by many artists (even Metal Machine Music from Lou Reed) but this is meaningless. only a bunch of hipsters with nothing to do
Critics always call this type of music "egocentric" and "self-indulgent", but I love it! Go ahead! Explore a musical theme until you've found it's logical conclusion!
It's ego-centric and self indulgent. It's a joke, though I mean every word of it. Waters actually managed to cram his entire person up his own asshole on that album.
You're right, mobile513, Waters certainly laid himself bare on The Wall album. But my original coment concerned the extended solos and improvisations that critics found "self-indulgent" in the late 1960s. Back in '79-80, I remember "The Wall" as being very well received by even the most snobish of critics. Even back then, "they got it".
I fully understood what you meant, again, it was a joke. You know, "you sure your not thinking of [insert target of satire]". It's a standard set-up, like "that's what she said".
Although, the only negative reviews I can recall came later, when Syd was in an acid coma and refused/was unable to play. I'm not as sure what they thought of other bands then, but usually when I read a critic trashing a self indulgent solo, it comes from some starchy prog group like Yes, or a wanky white blues band.
@duckman531 It really is, and acid is as well. Acid is a very selfish drug. To be on an acid trip is a very private experience, a world in which no one else can enter, a joy unshared. It isolates people. All can be together on a trip and share the experience of being high together (not always) but still experiencing very unique things. This was a product of Syd's introversion, the door opening his insides spilling over into the logical world. Isn't it fucking great????
@BreezesofConey Yeah, I've tripped with people I completetly trusted, and would also do it on my own. When you're in a great mood with life, tripping on your own is amazing. Only lasted 3 years with me. I knew when to stop lol!
@Kelly14UK Which is more than I could say for myself lol. I took acid for years, among other things. Think it scars one permanently. That door never completely closes lol
PHROW!!!!!!! just amazing! big fan of roger and syd!!!!! david is a bit shite! good at guitar though. Roger's the man!!!!!!!!!! pink floyd/SB, an inspiration.
I don't know why your comment got marked down. Both artists in their own ways dismantled prior notions of guitar playing in rock/popular music of the 20th century. They took the guitar out of its traditional roles of playing chords/solos, and turned it into a noise-making device. I wouldn't doubt it if they've been influenced by Syd's Floyd and his playing style.
Thelsabel7 stole my thunder..but Hurzyu's trying to drag this old Windyindy argument out about stuff that's been said a hundred times over..it's over so you Shut up you jerk
ExTro119, I'll tell you what's up with 1ndi64, fujivoo, fujiloony, and HurzYou (see comments about 3 mths ago on this site): they're all the same person.
He's one deeply demented troll that I've already busted on the Veggie Man site. He stages phony arguments with himself to lure people into his dementia. It amuses him. He's a very lonely troll.
you're re-hashing all Indy's remarks...we've heard all this stuff a hundred times over..the argument has run it's course about the "busker Dave" and all that.Syd's group stuff, great you made your "brilliant" points.....you're dragging this out ad-nauseum
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
But it is a fact. Dave Gilmour really was an unsuccessful busker. Look at what poor results they got after Syd's departure and you will admit that replacing a genius (Syd) with a guitar strummin busker (Dave) was not a good idea. People here are thirsty for information, they don't know Indy, so nothing has run its course and you may stay cool calm and collected. In other words, shut up.
Isabel 7 > I don't hate David Gilmour. He may be a kind fellow but he was in the wrong position. He is a mediocre songwriter and he was not used to play experimental rock music.
I don't hate Pink Floyd. I love Pink Floyd. I do love the real Pink Floyd: Syd Barrett's. After Syd's departure, the remaining blokes should have disbanded or chosen a different name, for example «Buskin' Dave, Rick, Nick and Roger». That would have been honest.
Your previous posts told me you hate David. He was a busker and there's nothing wrong with that, in fact he has acomplished more than many other people who had a regular life. He was a busker because he wanted to be one.
By the way I'm not the only one who think Pink Floyd is an amazing band, even without Syd, who I love very much.
I hate buskers. I hate what they are doing. Standing around on the streets and strumming boring songs all day long.
So I don't hate Dave as a person, I just hate what he was doing and I think that he was not qualified for the position as lead singer and guitarist in a psychedelic rock group.
but it was long time ago. Why are you keeping this grudge?
Don't blame David for Syd's departure, it was not his idea after all. Wether he was qualified or not, most people who buy Pink Floyd records think he is.
After all Syd made two beautiful records with David help, so if you despise David, you are despising these records too. then
I'm not keeping a grudge, I'm just telling the truth. I don't blame David for Syd's departure. I do blame David for his lack of interesting musical ideas. He was unsuccessful as a busker, and a busker, even a successful one, will never be able to take the place of a genius such as Syd. Pink Floyd should have disbanded after Syd's departure.
What Truth are you telling, that David was a busker? So what with that, it doesn't mean anything, not even probe your point for what you're repeating in everypost.
Pink Floyd continued because it wasn't Syd's band, it was a band. Remember, Roger was in London and Syd came to join him to make some music. So you can't say it was Syd nor Roger's band, they were in a band with other fellows.
Yes it's true, Dave was a busker. Did you know that he nearly died for malnutrition? He was so unsuccessful.
Pink Floyd were arguably Syd's group. He did write nearly all their songs. After his departure they suddenly lacked a songwriter. So they had to write songs of their own but unfortunately they were untalented songwriters so the group began to suck when Syd was gone. They should have disbanded.
Of course I knew it. So because this, David and Pink Floyd are a bad band?
If this is your whole argument your not doing a great job.
About the band, since you were not part of it your opinion was not something they would have care. They continued and made good records that happen you don't like. It, there are millions of people around the world who love their stuff. Deal with it, but stop saying the same over and over.

But my original coment concerned the extended solos and improvisations that critics found "self-indulgent" in the late 1960s. Back in '79-80, I remember "The Wall" as being very well received by even the most snobish of critics. Even back then, "they got it".
duckman531 2 years ago
I fully understood what you meant, again, it was a joke. You know, "you sure your not thinking of [insert target of satire]". It's a standard set-up, like "that's what she said".
Although, the only negative reviews I can recall came later, when Syd was in an acid coma and refused/was unable to play. I'm not as sure what they thought of other bands then, but usually when I read a critic trashing a self indulgent solo, it comes from some starchy prog group like Yes, or a wanky white blues band.

@duckman531
that's the real way to make music, to create something new
if you keep doing things for the audience, you will just repeat the same stuff or the changes you can make will be few or too slow
opethgarzaMD 1 year ago
@duckman531 It really is, and acid is as well. Acid is a very selfish drug. To be on an acid trip is a very private experience, a world in which no one else can enter, a joy unshared. It isolates people. All can be together on a trip and share the experience of being high together (not always) but still experiencing very unique things. This was a product of Syd's introversion, the door opening his insides spilling over into the logical world. Isn't it fucking great????
BreezesofConey 11 months ago 2
@BreezesofConey Yeah, I've tripped with people I completetly trusted, and would also do it on my own. When you're in a great mood with life, tripping on your own is amazing. Only lasted 3 years with me. I knew when to stop lol!
Kelly14UK 11 months ago
@Kelly14UK Which is more than I could say for myself lol. I took acid for years, among other things. Think it scars one permanently. That door never completely closes lol

sounds like syd and floyd are laying down the psychadelic staples for what sonic youth would have on the early material from 82-87

HurzYou 2 years ago
Shut up you clon. Syd rules but this acount and Indi acount sucks.
If you hate David Gilmour and Pink Floyd say it, don't use Syd as an excuse. Stop trolling around.
TheIsabel7 2 years ago
Isabel 7 > I don't hate David Gilmour. He may be a kind fellow but he was in the wrong position. He is a mediocre songwriter and he was not used to play experimental rock music.
I don't hate Pink Floyd. I love Pink Floyd. I do love the real Pink Floyd: Syd Barrett's. After Syd's departure, the remaining blokes should have disbanded or chosen a different name, for example «Buskin' Dave, Rick, Nick and Roger». That would have been honest.
PS: As you see, I'm not the only one to think so.
HurzYou 2 years ago
Your previous posts told me you hate David. He was a busker and there's nothing wrong with that, in fact he has acomplished more than many other people who had a regular life. He was a busker because he wanted to be one.
By the way I'm not the only one who think Pink Floyd is an amazing band, even without Syd, who I love very much.
TheIsabel7 2 years ago
I hate buskers. I hate what they are doing. Standing around on the streets and strumming boring songs all day long.
So I don't hate Dave as a person, I just hate what he was doing and I think that he was not qualified for the position as lead singer and guitarist in a psychedelic rock group.
HurzYou 2 years ago
but it was long time ago. Why are you keeping this grudge?
Don't blame David for Syd's departure, it was not his idea after all. Wether he was qualified or not, most people who buy Pink Floyd records think he is.
After all Syd made two beautiful records with David help, so if you despise David, you are despising these records too. then
TheIsabel7 2 years ago
I'm not keeping a grudge, I'm just telling the truth. I don't blame David for Syd's departure. I do blame David for his lack of interesting musical ideas. He was unsuccessful as a busker, and a busker, even a successful one, will never be able to take the place of a genius such as Syd. Pink Floyd should have disbanded after Syd's departure.
HurzYou 2 years ago
What Truth are you telling, that David was a busker? So what with that, it doesn't mean anything, not even probe your point for what you're repeating in everypost.
Pink Floyd continued because it wasn't Syd's band, it was a band. Remember, Roger was in London and Syd came to join him to make some music. So you can't say it was Syd nor Roger's band, they were in a band with other fellows.
TheIsabel7 2 years ago 2
Yes it's true, Dave was a busker. Did you know that he nearly died for malnutrition? He was so unsuccessful.
Pink Floyd were arguably Syd's group. He did write nearly all their songs. After his departure they suddenly lacked a songwriter. So they had to write songs of their own but unfortunately they were untalented songwriters so the group began to suck when Syd was gone. They should have disbanded.
HurzYou 2 years ago
Of course I knew it. So because this, David and Pink Floyd are a bad band?
If this is your whole argument your not doing a great job.
About the band, since you were not part of it your opinion was not something they would have care. They continued and made good records that happen you don't like. It, there are millions of people around the world who love their stuff. Deal with it, but stop saying the same over and over.
