Really? The English version makes more sense for the joke, I think. It expresses the annoyance that such a big film with such a big budget and big stars has the lead not even attempting an English accent; for one of the most legendary heroes in English history.
Beh, gli americani non sono famosi per la loro intelligenza, giusto? Io li odio, personalmente. (Mi scuso per il mio cattivo italiano, sto ancora imparando).
@devilxhlywood Heh, if it makes you feel any better, Robin Hood wouldn't have spoken anything close to received pronunciation. I imagine he would have spoken some form of middle english, possibly with a touch of French.
@tf2whackyengineer too true. The Americans in the scene sound closer to the English accent of the time and the Sheriff would have sounded French. But it still doesn't sound right when Hollywood uses Brooklyn accents in the old historical films!
@greedex89 Hey people can make mistakes. My friend thought Errol Flynn was English for ages when I actually enlightened him that hes Australian. Australians seem to be good English impersonators think of Hugo Weaving as V :P I will admit wouldnt put Russel Crowe in there though he's most definitely Australian XD
@braceyfaceanimegurl Hugo`s lived in Sydney most of his life and feels most at home there but his parents are English and his Natural Accent is A Mix of Aussie and Brit/English !
@cheesecake134 And so is Mel Brooks for coming up with that line. Unless that was an adlib by Elwes.
...I'd fear for the world if Mel Brooks and Monty Python had ever done a collaboration. That would have killed half the world's population due to heart attacks from laughing too much.
@movieman410 that wouldnt make sense because British means great britain, which includes Scotland and Whales. The Scottish and Welsh (especially scottish) have a different accent than the English. So A British accent could be either English, Scottish and welsh.
he makes a good point

At least Russel Crowe had a go at the accent, it was a good film anyway, unlike Prince of theives
