the reasone it boots so fast is that it has much less to load then windows 7 so it has to load like 20k of files and stuff wereas with my laptop i have like 1 gig to load
Well... more CPU power = more space for "lazy programmers"
+"lazy programmers" = +"slow softwares"
Its pretty amazing see how fast and functional were the old O.S..
It still have here my PowerBook100 with a 68k CPU... Its amazing... after upgrade the battery to Li-Po, I can work almost 12hours in one single pack charge... just keep the HD off... ... ... ...read only the necessary ... so silent... I can write in the Word for long hours... save my work in a floppy and send to other PC!
Good ol' 80's 90's apple, always had the first hand, what happened to them? Nowadays they sell lo-end all-in-one PC's with a trimmed down version of linux, and also phones without buttons, damn, it's sad to even think about it.....
@cptnsquires Not quite. I have an original IBM PC AT- essentially, the least common denominator of all modern PCs- which still functions well as if it were a few months old rather than 25 years old. Even it's infamously unreliable original hard drive still works.
@cptnsquires fanboy. lots of old PC's are running fine.
and yes we need more MHz cause like the other comment said here you like running better and more programs right? well get a better system to do so. you young kids and your not living in the time of these and dial up.
@MetalStorm96 Well, not my Windows, it has been installed on SSD, and the boot up time is about 25 seconds, and withouth the Windows splash screen, 15-20 seconds.
My dad once had a 12 grand Macintosh, back in the late 80's, when their innovation wasn't an inconvenience (Dammit 1-button mouse, Y U NO WORK FOR VIDEO GAMES?!) It had 4 Gigabytes of RAM. The laptop I'm typing this only has 2 gigabytes!
If we have professional programmers from the 80' we don't need hardware manufacturers. Software and Hardware manufacturers makes a deal for Ultimate Profit!
Great video! Although I think the old OS and hardware from the 80's is great, Macintosh envisioned a much grander machine. Too bad they had to go with Intel...I always thought Apple was great for having a processor of their own. Yes, I realize third party companies (i.e. Motorola, IBM, etc.) were behind the processors; but they were unique and exclusive to Apple. I still don't understand the need for Intel, but then again, I'm not Apple.
Fantastic! Nothing to think about really. Of course the latest and the greatest things of the 2000s are overkill. Computers were were developed in the '80s (I have a full '80s MIDI rig including MOTU Performer running on Mac). The only problem is, that people seem to be quite lest developed these days... It saddens me.
At those times whole software system fitted just to one floppy, booted faster than todays software systems like Windows what takes gigabytes space for nothing important.... The OS at those times were just few kilobytes by size while today they are about one megabyte (mostly drivers) while speed has not improvement at all. But even while OS is just very small part of the software system, the applications and libraries takes too much space and time to load and run!
You can get operating systems that don't take very long to boot up, they're not nearly as functional as operating systems that take a little bit longer. Newer OSes have to account for a lot of different hardware configurations in the computer which the designers of the Macintosh didn't have to contend with. New OSes also have to consider user expectations for features which the developers of the Macintosh weren't thought of or capable at the time. So yeah, I thought about it.
Yeah, but show it in action. mouseclick...wait....something happens.
mouseclick....wait...something happens. Not much for actual productivity, but enough people were enchanted by them to build an industry. I remember being
disappointed by what I anticipated it should do versus what it actually did. Didn't get one till 2001.
LOL your loading only 800kb data for that computer, today you load a Gigabytes data. try to boot your 800kb to todays computer and it will load like 1 sec or even milliseconds.
compurer from 1986 Operating system takes less than 800kbs of space Boots in 25sec 1MB ram 8MhZ CPU 800KB Floppy disk Capacity of 1/2 .Mp3 Computer from 2011 Operating system takes 500-1gb of space Boots at 40-60sec 3-4GhZ Cpu 4-6GB Ram 21GB Blueray DVD DVD Drive 1TB HDD with Capacity of over 1milion .Mp3 Old Vs. New...Who wins?
Yeah use linux then if ur not happy with windows, there is still skill programmer out there lol. And with linux you can boot very fast, its no really about the OS its more about what you have on your computer, my was booting on xp with 2gb ram an old processeur at 2.4gh i think and i was boot in about 10 second no lie, then i started to install program and game and thing that boot on startup and there you go now my comp boot in more then 30 sec like about 1 minute, and even if i putted more ram
I think programmers from the 80s hands down! No need for all this Visual Basic drag-and-drop programming with dll's and ocx rubbish in every possible place of the system. As can be seen from this video, you don't need all the bloatware to have a fully functional computer.
I've just been given a Commodore Vic 20...cassette tapes baby!!!
