Hurley seemed to be going in the right direction; less audience-appealing pop pablum, and much more personal lyrics about Rivers and his life at the time. The sound is much more Weezer-y, and they got Pat back on drums for every track. Don't be too pessimistic about the future of Weezer, because at this rate, we could have another damn good album coming up.
I wish Rivers would write more songs this complex, this wistful, this un-campy, this honest, this relatable, this brilliantly fucking beautiful. It's like something from an opera.
@gwicks I have nice dreams where Weezer have started writing songs appropriate to their age and experience, rather than desperately trying to recapture/rehash the magic of Blue and Pinkerton. Just imagine what Rivers would come up with. There's hints of it on songs like Angel and the One, Time Flies, I Want to Be Something - but while I still like their new material, it doesn't have the same emotional pull as Blue or Pinkerton.
i really like this version of one of my favorite songs by Weezer

@fuzzmaniac They aren't trying to recapture the magic of blue/pinkerton in their new music. If anything, Rivers is trying to stray away from it.

This needs to be played with Pat's drumming how cool would that be

sounds like beautiful wedding music.
in fact it reminds me of the music played in the wedding singer when robbie is waiting at the altar.
