aliens, who runs it? the alien? the pred? et?, i think not, on a molecular level it has to be the thing, every cell is a living organism capable of retaining all that it has come into contact with, 1000s of years old its seen t-rex n prob whooped its ass, in fact in the end part of the film there is a lill t-rex in it, truly horrid, lets skip the fact that freezing destroys cell walls, its only a film, but one of my favs, 5 stars, faved ect, its all good, cheers
indeed, actualy yes, there is no reason why the thing should obey nature in the same way we understand cell structure, hell some frogs do it, freeze during the winter and thaw out, now thats some weird shit.
so yea, thats an interesting point and i stand corrected sir, or maam, or thing.
Well the last monster was probably just a composite/improvised "dog" head with several canine teeth. Tyrannosaurus rex died out 65 million years ago and the Thing et al only landed 100,000 years ago, when humans were taking their first steps.
The alien's purpose is to survive as effectively as possible, always looking for ways of spreading itself(dog trying to lick the guy in beginning, dog trying to get the other dogs, Norris Thing's head trying to escape, Palmer Thing's blood trying to escape, among otherz)
That is what made the movie really good, you never knew who was already transformed and who wasn't. There could have been 3 going at a time for all we know. For all we know, the alien virus didn't need a big physical form to move around. The blood on the floor seemed to move on its own and could explain how it got into the blood bank that was locked in a case. I would recomment looking up Rob Ager's The Thing analysis on YouTube. He did a great job and I agreed with almost everything he said.
Also, notice when the dog first runs into the American base and immediately licks the one guy in the face. That could have been the alien planting itself in that guy in case it's dog form was killed so that it lived on.
qwtrerry your a liar there is no predator 3 dumbass get your fact straight lol just kidding about the dumbass part just in case you get offended those movies are great
I watched this movie yesterday all alone in the dark in the middle of the night, didn't really know what I was watching at first, since I started watching in about the middle of the movie. My god that was some freaky stuff. Those mutation scenes was so sick, I wasn't sure if I should puke, laugh or switch channel. :P Didn't sleep well this night.
the host? cloverfield? they ring a bell because there the most recent monster movies that i know off.
but yeh i agree. films like this still amaze me. the graphcis do look crap these days but for some reason it looks more real that most of the stuff u see in cinema today.
like u see realistic stuff in cinema and ur not realy scared. but u see a classic and the graphics arn't that great but yet it scares u more. i don't understand how
i like more those classic films like the fly, the theing, and all thosen than for example those like cloverfield.
i saw cloverfield in the cinema som time ago and i dont like it.
but i have to admit that alien1,2,3,resurrection,predator1,2,3,last predator,v.s.predator,v.s.predator2, got the effects really good, i watched all of them.
Not sure what the average age is of those that have made these comments but is it maybe that we're more scared of these older films because when we watched them we were probably all under the certificate age and actually felt real fear as opposed to now when we know its all made up and how they do things etc etc.
You're right and wrong at the same time. Yes many people were way underaged when they saw this movie for the first time and, unlike nowadays, we were not use to such gory things back then so it really left a strong impression. But, if I take myself for example, I saw this movie for the first time last summer and it totally scared the sh*t out of me and I'm not normally scared easily. The same movie with CG would've been a lamefest. So yes, props can make that much of a difference.
There's was a rumour carpenter wanted to do 'The Thing 2' but not heard much recently. I miss the latex and old fashion special effects this movie proves the are way better in horror movies, no doubt a sequel will be whored with CGI and some chick doing martial arts to dance music, real shame.
And I gotta disagree with you on the CGI thing, it allows for some really cool scenes. What I don't like is when people assume CGI is all bad because some idiot director out there gave it a bad name with some atrocity like Alien Resurrection.
Martial arts to dance music?? LMAO! Yea I hate it when they ruin movies with that. The cheap bastards try to make people like a horror movie just because of the sex appeal.
There are many mistakes in this movie! The blood is moving as we can see right? Then why don't it touch the skin of somebody who is alone and sleeping or everyone?!This will be a sure mass infestation and safest even while they awake they will all be infested and maybe turned in to the thing!
It probably goes over to the one that got infected by The Thing in that scene, to add chances of him turning into the thing, sort of like a magnet effect; it seems to be attracted to the already infected, rather than those that aren't. The blood wouldn't have a mind of its own. LOL!
LOL!Maybe i am wrong but we see a thing that is leaving the place for dogs and nobody seems to be worried/scarried even believing in this like the nigger THIS IS A PLOT HOLE at least 6 guys see an alien form that is mutating but they don't care what it can do they should use the chopper at least for reinforcements and why did MacReady's flamethrower didn't worked? It's not normal for such an simple item and he should test it at first place ;).
And Windows didn't burned the thing but he should! Also the other nigger in the end isn't scared when going into the dark...In real situation total different events will occur!

yea man alien was wars because was better this isnt scary its horrible you wanna now what scares me when i was a kid the movie called Chucky the doll its scars me like shit damn
Yeah, this was one of those very few remakes that was actually as good or better than the original - you just don't see that anymore. John Carpenter was a god of horror for a time back in the late 70's / early 80's (Pretty much until he did Vampires - blech)
I watched this film when I was 10. My Dad said it would scare me and by fuck he was right. Nightmares for about 3 weeks after. Now that's what films should be like.

I would take a guess at it being a virus. Ausmming it has no real form to the nake eye. Its drive in the movie is one to blend in and continue to reproduce its self into the shapes of others. "consumes its victim and becomes it"
Could have just as easilly been some sort of nannite colony, that reorganizes the organic material of organisms it encounters into useful structures for survival. Would also explain the retention of it's intelligence.
the creatures intelligence becomes what it consumes. Once it was human,it would know what we know. This is evedent in the movie by how its able to know its position and relation to others. Its greatest flaw would seem that it thinks its indestructive/God like. It has No intention of hiding its ability to copy its victim. Burning it dose not kill it, like the doc said there are still cellulure life in the burn remains. Like the Blob freezing it is the only answer.
an alien life form that crashed like hundreds of thousands of years ago in the ice that has the ability to digest other life forms and duplicate them perfectly
i had a worse experience to that! i was 7 and i had just got a new house and the lighting downstairs hadnt been fitted yet, my dad sed 'oh theres a film on tv tonite tht u mite like' he didnt no it was as scary as it is and i watched the whole film in the dark by myself scared shitless
