No medical research claims circumcision will prevent those. It claims it may lower your risk. But proper cleaning and condoms will prevent anything that circumcision claims to prevent and without dangerous surgery.

No medical association in the world suggest infants should be circumcised routinely to prevent cancer.

@timothyjames24 actually thats not true- there is some SPECULATION that circumcision can help to prevent the spread of STDS but it has NOT been found to be true. The only study that showed any truth to that was in Africa. There they did find that the spread of HIV was reduced among circumcised men. They have not been able to mimic those results from studies done in the U.S.A. There are two thoughts about why Africa has a lowered rate of HIV but not Industrialized Countries. (cont)

Either way, I didnt feel it was necessary for my son- after all it is genital mutilation...anyway you look at it. @eident9 I am saying that I believe the procedure is slightly less traumatic when a highly trained moyel does it within the Jewish tradition as opposed to when it is done by a doctor in a hospital. I watched videos of hospital circumcisions as well a a few briss videos and the briss ones were way easier to watch. I could get through about 10 seconds of the hosp one w/ the sound on and a bit longer w/ sound off. The briss I could tolerate. I still chose not to circumcise my son.

My brother is generally against cicumcision, but he went to his best friend's sons bris last year and he told me "it wasnt that bad. The baby barely cried." Would he circumcise his child? NO...but he agrees that the Bris lowers the trauma compared to the hospital. Is there still trauma? Of course...but it is less so. (cont)

Do you think painful genital sculpting surgery that is not a treatment for any medical problem is not child abuse? Circumcision is peeling genital skin from flesh, clamping in screw-clamp and cutting, all with zero or inadequate anesthesia. The boy then experiences additional pain for more than a week when his urine bathes the open wound. No adult would want to endure that. It is infant abuse.

@iDEADLYiDASHER How do you know it hurts more as an adult? As an infant, the foreskin has not separated from the head of the penis, so it has to be CUT away, then the foreskin itself cut off. Anesthesia options for infants is extremely limited, and many hospitals don't use it at all. Often, an infant goes into a state of shock and basically passes out during the procedure (these are the babies that "slept right through it") but cortisol levels are sky high, showing extreme stress..

Foreskins get dirty. Just like your fingernails: when they get dirt under them, do you have them amputated or do you wash them? You wash them. The foreskin is no different. No medical association in the world suggest infants should be circumcised routinely to prevent cancer.

Circumcision became widespread in the US after the largest wave of Jewish immigration (2 mil) in the early 1900's. Prior to that, circumcision was not practiced outside of the Jewish pop in the US. Today, males circumcision is the norm in the US. Europeans (except Jews) do not circumcise their males.. The only study that showed any truth to that was in Africa. There they did find that the spread of HIV was reduced among circumcised men. They have not been able to mimic those results from studies done in the U.S.A. There are two thoughts about why Africa has a lowered rate of HIV but not Industrialized Countries. (cont)

@eident9 I am saying that I believe the procedure is slightly less traumatic when a highly trained moyel does it within the Jewish tradition as opposed to when it is done by a doctor in a hospital. I watched videos of hospital circumcisions as well a a few briss videos and the briss ones were way easier to watch. I could get through about 10 seconds of the hosp one w/ the sound on and a bit longer w/ sound off. The briss I could tolerate. I still chose not to circumcise my son.

@eident9 First of all..I DID NOT mark your message as spam. I have NO reason to do that and if I had considered it span I would NOT have answered you. Secondly, I am entitled to the opinion that Jewish circumcision is a slightly less traumatic experience for the baby. This has nothing to do with the rituals associated with it. The fact is that the process appears to be much quicker and less traumatic then a hospital circumcision. If you compared the two, you would see what I mean. (cont)

@eident9 My father is Jewish (my mother is not) and my father wanted me to circumcise my son. He is circumcised and my brother is circumcised as is much of my family. My brother is generally against cicumcision, but he went to his best friend's sons bris last year and he told me "it wasnt that bad. The baby barely cried." Would he circumcise his child? NO...but he agrees that the Bris lowers the trauma compared to the hospital. Is there still trauma? Of course...but it is less so. (cont)

If your remember correctly I also said I dont agree with it either way and I hope the laws change so its not allowed. But I still feel jewish circumcision is the lesser of TWO EVILS. And yes...the f*ing hospital circumcision is much worse then a bris...so I was hoping for people who plan to circumcise NO MATTER WHAT would possibly consider that over the hospital. Watch the f*ing videos, with the sound on and then tell me that hospital ones arent worse. The screaming last from 6-10 mins as opposed to 1-4 mins. Those are general numbers of course, but hosp circumcisions are MUCH more drawn out.

@eident9 Either way im against circumcision- but I do feel we should have some understanding for people who include it in their religion. I hope the laws will change and eventually all circumcision will stop (unless medically necessary) but in the meantime it is what it is- so if I can persuade some ppl to watch the videos and do the research as I did then who are you to bitch at me?

@eident9 I really would like to stress that either way I really dont agree with circumcision- I feel it is a highly traumatic, horrible procedure. But I also really feel the hospital procedure is much worse and there is no basis for it. At least in the jewish religion they have their beliefs and reasons for doing it- its not just cosmetic. My 3 year old, whom I adopted was circumcised. I think about it now and it makes me sad that he went through that, alone in the hosp. My poor baby!

There are some Jews who actually believe that if their son is uncircumcised he will have no place in "the world to come".. No parent has a right to force reproductive mutilation on a separate person's body. One person's religious rights end where another person's body begins. Take a *gentler approach* to force cutting your clitoris off and see how unoffensive you think that gentle approach crap is when abuse is pointed at *you* not a boy

@eident9 As I said before...hopefully the laws will eventually change... but until then I will devote my energy on trying to do something about the non-religious people I know who circumcise for cosmetic reasons not the ONE Jewish person I know (besides family who I am not close to) who circumcised for religious reasons. Honestly where I live and work there are only a small handful of Jewish people and yet all of my friends have circumcised or will circumcise.....

All I have ever said is I find that cosmetic circumcision is an issue around me and that I am more understanding towards religious circumcision (both male and female). @eident9 I dont consider either child abuse. I don't agree with either type of circumcision and I wouldn't do it to my child...but I dont think circumcision is child abuse. Parents who have there child circumcised are not trying to harm them- they are doing what they believe, (whether misguided or not) is right. Now...I dont agree with getting the procedure done...but I do not think people who choose to are bad people.

Do you think painful genital sculpting surgery that is not a treatment for any medical problem is not child abuse? Circumcision is peeling genital skin from flesh, clamping in screw-clamp and cutting, all with zero or inadequate anesthesia. The boy then experiences additional pain for more than a week when his urine bathes the open wound. No adult would want to endure that. It is infant abuse.

@eident9 and to those who think it is not painful. Please watch a video of a hospital circumcision. I say "hospital" because a Bris with a Moyel is a bit different and they appear to do a better job, quicker and better distractions. However hospital circumcision last between 3-10 mins depending on the dr and penis, the newborn is strapped to a table, the fused foreskin is seperated from the penis & cut. I had no idea how much there was to it. I couldnt watch with the sound on cause (cont)

@iDEADLYiDASHER I have absolutely NO problem with you and your decision. What I have a problem with is an adult making that decision for a child who has NO SAY in the matter at all. It puts the child's life at risk, needlessly, and can lead to lifelong issues. When an adult makes a decision to alter their own body, that's nothing, it's all on them, whatever they want to do. But, when an infant's life is put at risk, and a newborn baby is subjected to that level of pain, I will speak out.

@iDEADLYiDASHER How do you know it hurts more as an adult? As an infant, the foreskin has not separated from the head of the penis, so it has to be CUT away, then the foreskin itself cut off. Anesthesia options for infants is extremely limited, and many hospitals don't use it at all. Often, an infant goes into a state of shock and basically passes out during the procedure (these are the babies that "slept right through it") but cortisol levels are sky high, showing extreme stress..

@iDEADLYiDASHER Hmm..but that's flawed logic. I could go down and get my newborn a nice tattoo on his arm, he'd never remember the pain, but everyone would consider me a monster for that. Circumcision is much less painful and dangerous for an older child or adult..less risk of bleeding, less risk of infection, and the person is old enough to be able to mentally deal with the pain. Plus, circumcision isn't a necessary procedure! Why perform unnecessary surgery on an infant?

@iDEADLYiDASHER that's 4,000,000 babies, a little less than half of which are girls, who aren't circumcised. To put a much more accurate number: in 2008 there were roughly 2,173,389 baby boys born in the US. If 75% of those were circumcised then that makes 1,630,042. So, it would be more like 100 in 1,630,042 babies die in a way that is 100% preventable and needless. Tell those 100 families that it doesn't mean anything.
