That really does look like a legitimate complaint. And the part about him making his complaints to the officers is legitimate too, because they aren't looking out for public interests at all, they were purposely abusing the flaw in that design. They knew some people weren't just deliberately or negligently disobeying the stop sign, as they stated it was an engineering flaw when he first approached them. The stop sign looks fine and meets state code, no problems. Remember, the officers do not erect the signs, but rather the state highway department does, or local public works. The officers were there responding to citizen complaints that people were not stopping and causing near accidents, frightening many people, inclusing mom's with children in the car. If you have a complaint about the manner in which a traffic control devide is erected, you contact your State Dept. of Transportation or city.

Why was it changed then? It didn't meet code anyway - the stop line was faded away. There are specifications for road engineering. If the fittings don't meet it, they don't truly exist in law. Even a stop line with an inch of paint missing is not, in legal terms, a stop line. The system relies on people rolling over and taking it; court appearances are inconvenient hard work, and potentially expensive, by design.
wow this is exactly like a stop sign in my town the cops love to lurk near. It's one of the back streets that are not as busy but the whole stop sign is completely covered by tree branches and bushes and you can not see it at all so they luck out there.
After reviewing the video and comparing it to Google Street view I see a clearer picture. I can see why the LEOS set up here. However I agree that the stop line needs to be repainted too. In the Google Street View the line is almost gone. Proof that the traffic division is not doing their job. So should citizens have to pay the price? Maybe, but taking everything into consideration a nice written warning would do.
At first I was like what the hell is the guy doing the video talking about? I can not see his issue. Later in the video it's clear. The stop line is too narrow. I do not know TX laws but that line appears to be spray painted. In my opinion I too would have turned left , thinking it was prior to the stop sign. Great video coverage. Keep up the good work! I agree that this is a design error, but I do not believe it is each and individual officers responsibility to take actions on what they did not participate in building road signs. Sure, putting a STOP sign is wrong there, instead they should rewrite it as SLOW DOWN and that should solve the problem. I'm a retired truck driver, drove for over 20 years in the NW part of the country and never had a problem until I moved to Texas. I drove hotshot out of Houston for 3 years and had been stopped by cops more than all 20 years in the NW. In one week I was stopped by Texas DOT 4 times! Evev though everything was always completely legal they found something to give tickets for to the point it drove me out of business. I don't blame Mike one bit for what he's doing!

Occupational drivers licenses are the state trying to tell everyone that uses any form of transportation other than those used on the road for commercial purposes they they need the states permission and with it a license. To get a license you'd need a social security number that isn't necessary according to the "Privacy Act of 1974

That really does look like a legitimate complaint. And the part about him making his complaints to the officers is legitimate too, because they aren't looking out for public interests at all, they were purposely abusing the flaw in that design. They knew some people weren't just deliberately or negligently disobeying the stop sign, as they stated it was an engineering flaw when he first approached them. He was looking out for public interest & his own by trying to persuade them to stop doing it.

Along with being unfair to motorists, this situation could also cause accidents. When a cop gives "commands" to people, they expect them to be obeyed "to the letter" They are very clear and definite with their meaning. The highways/roads issue commands by traffic signs. After I pointed out the problems to the county commissioners, they installed a new "Stop ahead" sign, painted the missing stop line, and defined the lanes better. The stop sign looks fine and meets state code, no problems. Remember, the officers do not erect the signs, but rather the state highway department does, or local public works. The officers were there responding to citizen complaints that people were not stopping and causing near accidents, frightening many people, inclusing mom's with children in the car. If you have a complaint about the manner in which a traffic control devide is erected, you contact your State Dept. of Transportation or city.

Why was it changed then? It didn't meet code anyway - the stop line was faded away. There are specifications for road engineering. If the fittings don't meet it, they don't truly exist in law. Even a stop line with an inch of paint missing is not, in legal terms, a stop line. The system relies on people rolling over and taking it; court appearances are inconvenient hard work, and potentially expensive, by design.

wow this is exactly like a stop sign in my town the cops love to lurk near. It's one of the back streets that are not as busy but the whole stop sign is completely covered by tree branches and bushes and you can not see it at all so they luck out there.

After reviewing the video and comparing it to Google Street view I see a clearer picture. I can see why the LEOS set up here. However I agree that the stop line needs to be repainted too. In the Google Street View the line is almost gone. Proof that the traffic division is not doing their job. So should citizens have to pay the price? Maybe, but taking everything into consideration a nice written warning would do.

I agree that this is a design error, but I do not believe it is each and individual officers responsibility to take actions on what they did not participate in building road signs. Sure, putting a STOP sign is wrong there, instead they should rewrite it as SLOW DOWN and that should solve the problem. Sure, I won't be surprised to know that many people may be lazy in fixing this and what you do is not wrong. At least this video ended nicely. I was worried one of them would tick off. Good job dude

I'm a retired truck driver, drove for over 20 years in the NW part of the country and never had a problem until I moved to Texas. I drove hotshot out of Houston for 3 years and had been stopped by cops more than all 20 years in the NW. In one week I was stopped by Texas DOT 4 times! Evev though everything was always completely legal they found something to give tickets for to the point it drove me out of business. I don't blame Mike one bit for what he's doing!

@MikeHansonArchives what are the requirements for a stop sign? do you have to litrally stop? even if the road is clearly free of traffic before you arrive at the junction? in the UK we are encouraged to check if the road is clear before we arrive at the junction, maybe 10-20 feet away and then again when we arrive at it, most of the time we dont stop.

On or before tickets are fraud. Occupational drivers licenses are the state trying to tell everyone that uses any form of transportation other than those used on the road for commercial purposes they they need the states permission and with it a license. To get a license you'd need a social security number that isn't necessary according to the "Privacy Act of 1974
