Honestly I highly doubt that the amount of guns in an area really makes a difference on the crime rate. I really doubt that most people "murdered" were murdered because they were known not to have a gun. The reason why NYC and DC have high murder rates is because of all the really poor districts in those cities. Most people murdered there are probably armed regardless (I have a feeling the majority of those murdered are gang bangers)

I'd like to chime in here to say it depends on specific locations, not just the country as a whole. I used to be sitting on the fence about which is safer, allowing gun rights or not. But in my in my honest opinion, its about the residents and who lives in what area. Gun rights allowed = Criminals afraid of simply committing offence because everyone is armed. But gun rights allowed also = giving anyone the chance to wield it wrongly. Its about people. And we all know everyone is different.
