Sorry, but comparing Jason Becker to Hide and Petrucci is simple ignorance. Hide is a very good player and one of the players I like most, but his playing was nowhere half as good as Petrucci, let alone Becker. And Petrucci achieved a technique comparable to Becker YEARS later than Becker. He was 19 at Cacophony, he could play Black Star when he was 16. Petrucci was learning alternative picking at that time, probably. So, stop comparing them. Hide is awesome, but Becker is out of his league.

Being creative and being able to write solos that are musically pleasant to audience is the key success for guitarists, Petrucci and Jason fail to meet those requrirements since they are too concerned about techniques. They should more concerned about their music.

Hide is a better guitarist than Pata for sure since he was the lead guitar and I am pretty sure he wrote x japan's solos.

He has his licks down, he is very clean. But most importantly, He has his own groove, or feeling. Playing fast but with groove you can express certain feelings. Hide is a great guitarist even compared to Jason Becker, since Jason can never write solos like Hide, Jason only can write solos that are in his own style. Lee is influenced by Hide yet has different groove. He can musically impress audience.

Anyone who says that hes better than hide is an idiot. Lee is very talented. Although none of us have seen hide and Pata play at their full potential. Lee is clean and fast, which is good but thats not all. what made x good was that hide and pata could synchronize. mEaning that they can hit all the notes perfectly while playing lower or higher of his partner. and pata who could switch to soloing to rythm.

As for musical quality... apart from the fact that the quesion is a highly subjective one, I find that Silent Jealousy sounds mechanical, sterile, and lifeless. As is the case with all of X's solos in my opinion. hide's guitar solo in Eyes Love You has more substance BY FAR.

Dude... I've been an X/hide fan for nearly 9 years now. Believe me, it's not that interesting when you can hear every note before its played in the song.

I only got into Petrucci/DT early last winter. And what's "boring" or "technical" to your ears might breathe life and beauty into mine.

Endless Rain is bleh, ok. I'm kinda biased against what Yoshiki writes, so... Yeah. hide's music sounds much more natural and pleasing to me. The Eyes Love You solo is amazing, in my book.

Well definately check em out. I've only seen disc 1 of Aoi Yoru so far, but I can already tell that it is aMAZING. The best thing is the period. It's right there in between the Jealousy/Art of life period and juuuust beginning to move into the Dahlia era. Except X wasn't as poppy/commercial yet, so the songs that they DO play from the Dahlia era have a much more raw & powerful feel to them. BETTER, in fact, than they ended up being on Dahlia and respective singles.
