Good idea! Although I like the machine (brilliant for the price!), the coffee in the pods is third rate. It also gives both me and my partner rotten headaches if we drink more than 2 or 3 a day.
Great idea as I like a decaf at night and Aldi dont sell a decaf capsule so I will make my own! Also I can use up all those grounds in the freezer - thanks for the video!
@jayms050 have you tried this? i read on a forum that despite what aldi staff say, the nespresso capsules can work in the expressi machine. i'd like to hear from someone that has tried this
How cheap can you get when you are recycling one shot capsules. Nespresso capsules start at .64c and Aldi sell their capsules for around .34c a unit. Why bother, come to think of it why not just use instant coffee if your that cheap and broke
@irogers1968 - The reason is to allow the use of your own coffee. This eliminates landfill and also means you can use STRONGER, organic, fair-trade, and better quality coffee - with the same convenience of just popping in a capsule and having it pour instantly.
your a wally! I bought my expressi to avoid doing exactly this! Grinding, packing down coffee, making a mess and using stale coffee! I don't know about anyone else but I bought my expressi for convenience! good one waldo!
Great idea dude, awesome. I've notice on eBay reusable pods are available for other machines so is probably only a matter of time before they will be available for this machine. I am very impressed with this machine! The coffee it produces is awesome!
Seems like an awful lot of work to me. This is like buying, say, tubs of yoghurt, eating the contents then refilling them from some other large container of yoghurt and resealing the tubs.
The only pressure would be from the machine. All the pod does is hold the coffee and the seal is to keep the coffee fresh...but I see you've filled the pods with pre-ground from a container so you've essentially filled it with stale coffee. One would assume Aldi's production line would be grinding beans as they fill these pods to maintain optimum freshness. Agree with using alu-foil but maybe try fresh roasted beans with a decent grinder next time and see how that goes in terms of taste.
What a waste of plastic!

I dont like the idea of mixing cling wrap with heat. Pretty nasty stuff is released from soft plastics like that when heated.

That was just creepy. The quietness and then the fly buzzing at the end. Weird.

Container is stored in freezer permanently...

What about the pressure then?
I thought that some amount of seal/pressure would be needed to stop the coffee coming out and going everywhere?
Goog idea heat-wise though, no melting!
Although, maybe worrying that a small piece of foil could get stuck somewhere in the machine...

Try aluminium foil instead of plastic wrap.
