Linux pretty much sucks as a user desktop - still - Linux you use linux for a server. MySQL, Firefox, Apache, there is a lot of Open Source that is best in class, not to mention the languages. It used to cost a fortune just to buy a basic interpreter ... or C, the GCC compiler is thought of as the standard.
@darthirakli i use it all the time, it is stable enough. i havnt had any crash in months and update everyday. but it is the uncertainty of it lol. Chrome is just a commercial chromium, but is more stable.
I RARELY have a problem with firefox that wasn't caused by me. I am not at all saying that firefox is the best, but some of the things these people are saying is bullshit.
Don't expect firefox to run great with 30+ tabs, unless you have the resources available. Every application has it's limits, and those limits are usually higher than anyone should reach in a realistic situation, besides benchmarking. If anyone tells me they have 30+ tabs opened and use them all, I know they are lying.
Compatibility, thats a load of crap when it comes to microsoft. why is it that thunderbird apps are backwards compatible with every OS but microsoft. MS does not want to share anything with anyone else! (well to be honest they can keep their crap OS) !
About Firefox crashing and closing all tabs, it happens on my machine sometimes but I see that when I restart the Firefox, it senses that it crashed before and gives me option to either restore earlier sessions or start a new session. If I select restore earlier sessions, it opens all my previous tabs. Not only that it also opens multiple Firefox instance if I have any.
I use the same applications in both linux and windows, such as gimp, firefox, and Dev C++. One of the main reasons I switched to firefox, was that certain sites wouldn't even let me see the page without firefox. I also use certain plug-ins that have yet to be ported to IE or opera. I do use opera sometimes though.
open source means open information. they dont have to be best on anything. but with the help of open source social groups out there open source softwares get better faster.
btw I like to know if I need to change anything under the software that I am using makes me feel better.

What are these assholes talking about? Most Open Source applications are great. I've never had crashing problems on Firefox.

opera is the best!
angel2901 3 years ago
I would strongly recommend Opera -- however, most of the features it has are replicable in Firefox 3 e.g. with the FastDial and FireGestures add-ons
MEpianist 3 years ago 2
I hear that a lot. But how many Add-ons you have to istall to get the features Opera has?
angel2901 3 years ago
Opera has the same fundamental problem as IE. It's not free, as in freedom.
