Cool video but I prefer the fan vids that stick to WWI. Nothing wrong with honoring veterans of other wars of course but the original song is so anchored in WWI and the horrors and cultural passions rooted in it that, it almost seems sacrilegious to mention outside conflicts.
Going to be in Helmand Province this spring, and this is some of the best shit I can show my buds. All that there is year old pop rap over there. We Irish decendent's need some DKM or some Street Dogs. This tune runs thru my head every time I kick down a door or jump.
It not really about what war. It about the war we fought in and man gave their lives. It tribute to all the people who fought in a war. There isn't much war that is fought on America soil, all of them fought on far away coasts.
I think it's about the Gulf War, because he says "A place they call sacred, a place I call hell." Parts of Iraq are considered to be very sacred to Muslims. Also, Gulf War soldiers also had to use gas masks in case Saddam's forces used mustard gas.
It sounds a bit like a soldier in the Gulf War thinking about how it would have been like for WW1 vets. considering they had to wear gas masks just like the troops in the gulf war, that seems like it could trigger thoughts like that. *shrugs* dunno though
Yeah, Mike McColgan, the singer, served in operation desert storm, thats what the song is about, "a place they call sacret". but its still a good vid, and an awesome song.
what song at the end?

moving song. it's about the first gulf war, so i'd think some pictures of that'd be more fitting, but you've got the jist.

.... gulf war? dont you mean that its about the first world war?
jllego 3 years ago
the opening part, yes. one of the last lines, though is...
"I think of a place on a faraway coast
Where friends are so dear and there's reason to toast
A cloudy image of a Middle East land
Comes down and wrecks my hopeful thoughts."
original lead singer, mike mccolgan is a gulf war veteran.

i agree, but really, does it matter? I'm sure many soldiers feel this way regardless of the war.
