At 14,692 ft the Matterhorn in Switzerland is not just "some big ass mountain" and there is no easy walking path all the way to the summit. It requires some technical climbing skills. By modern standards, the climb is fairly difficult , but not hard for skilled mountaineers. Several climbers die each year due to a number of factors including the scale of the climb and its inherent dangers, inexperience, falling rocks, and overcrowded routes.
well Samantha Brown, a chick on the Travel Channel, climbed some big ass mountain in the alps (I assume in Switzerland) and you could hire a guide and walk up it in a day, no skills necessary really
some big ass mountain in the alps? there are about 400 of these you know... the matterhorn hörnligrat is definetly nothing for unexperienced mountaineers...
@d1a2n3e489 I know, I can imagine. This mountain was definatly NOT small that she climbed, and I could have sworn it was the Matterhorn. She may have gone from a place called Interlaken, Switzerland, if that helps pinpoint the mountain. Eitherway, this mountain was huge, and it had a name, but I can't figure out what the F it is.
@Grundalizer i strongly suggest you go to the matterhorn,you will soon see that you can,t walk up this mountain. give it a go oh if you hire a guide you have to do a fitness test first,but nothing can prepare you for the jaw dropping,stomach churning,head spinning,bowl emptying exposure you will encounter.there is no easy route up,no hiding from the exposure.
I`m climbing the Matterhorn in 8 days time,i will find it hard enough and i have all my limbs-you are an inspiration to all mate,RESPEC-RESPECT-RESPECT.Life is like a mountain-you can sit at the bottom and say`that looks pretty`or you can get up there and look down and say`what`s next`.thank you for sharing your endeavours with us-i hope i bump into you on a hill some time-it would be a honour to buy you a beer..take care and the best of luck to all who `GET UP THERE`JUST DO IT!

I thought I saw on the travel channel that people can just climb up an easy path to get to the summit, they don't have to scale these rock faces.
Grundalizer 2 years ago
actually this is the easiest way to the summit ,-)

@grundalizer
normally you start from zermatt when you ascend the matterhorn
d1a2n3e489 2 years ago
@Grundalizer if somebody starts from Grindelwald chance are good that the mountain of choice is the Eiger, and the route the Eiger Nordwand.
