To continue my post below: Thus, for example, if you want to maximize your mineral intake and you have 20 drones on one base and 14 on your other 2 other you should transfer 2 drones to each of your other expansions, giving you 16 at each base. There are of course reasons to go over 16 but if you're trying to decide how to allocate / build drones bear in mind that each drone above 16 at an expansion (assuming 8 mineral patches) will only mine about 1/2 as much as each drone up to 16.

@aNamelessDread I do. There's no big disagreement. But I will make two points: 1) I qualified my statement by saying there are lots of other factors to consider. A player's ability to multitask is definitely one of them. 2) Transferring those four drones will net you 80 additional minerals per minute (once they start mining). In four minutes you'll have mined enough for an additional hatchery (8x40=320), in 13 minutes you'll have mined over a 1000 additional minerals. Small things add up.

Psy -- at 2 drones per patch your drones each drone mines somewhere around 40 minerals a minute. Each additional drone per patch will mine approximately 20 minerals a minute. Thus if you have 16 drones on 8 patches you're mining approximately 640 minerals / minute; at 24 you're mining around 800. There are lots of other factors to consider but if you're solely concerned with optimizing mineral intake, if poss., distribute your drones so that you have a max of 16 drones on minerals at each base.

Psy, I was playing a toss recently and instead of placing cannons by the ramp or the natural's minerals, he put a pylon and cannon on the low ground and then began stacking them in (on the top of the ramp). Would the only way to stop this be good OV placement? (NOTE: I am Gold league scrub).
