  • Buddy simply the best!Your'e playing made me buy aRic 360-6.No one plays a Ric better and I've heard a lot of players,Buddy you're a great guitarist.Thankyou for putting Rickenbacker on the musical map,at No:1 where it belongs.Cheers Buddy!

  • @MrBen58862 Thanks! I'm glad you like the meager attempts I have made on the Ric but I assure you, Rickenbacker was on the map a long time before me. Roger McGuinn, George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney all used Rickenbacker guitars early on for a good reason. Nothing else sounded like them and that is true to this day. They are fine instruments and are made to a very high standard. When I retire, I hope I'll have the time to sit down and become a better musician.

  • You´re really talented! I wish I can play guitar like that in many years... How did you learn it?

  • Hey Buddy you must have a good payin day job to stock all them beautiful guitars! Nuthin like the sound of an electric 12 :)

  • @genericgeorgeand the picking sounds good

  • Hi Buddy, great job! You really nailed that solo. I can't tell from the video, but are you playing with fingerpicks liek Roger McGuinn does or just using a flatpick? I always enjoy your videos very much. Thanks!

  • @psymonts Thanks! Although Roger McGuinn is THE MASTER of the Rickenbacker 12-string and I am but a novice on it at best, I did use a flat pick and finger picks on this particular video to mimick what Roger does so beautifully. If I ever get time to sit down and seriously practice, I hope to be able to learn to play like R.M. at least to some degree.

  • Not allowed to use software - garage whatever from Apple Duane never had such things. Just not fair! It fakes the music a computer could play like Duane if the right software was made. No, you are not as good as I thought. Sorry!

  • Thanks for the reply...I just got my 360 12 a week ago....Im in love....your toaster pick ups sound a bit warmer than the single coils that are on mine..but I can hear that Fender amp biting through....Im playing through a Vox Ac30 so I can really shape the sound from the amp to take the bite out of the pick ups so I am happy but I envy your toasters....and also I have read your comments and sell yourself short..you are GOOD..12 string aint easy..and you are the best Ive seen so far on you tube

  • @SydbarF Thank you for the kind words! If you decide to purchase toasters from Rickenbacker, you'll see that swaping the high gasin pickups out for the toasters is about a 45 min. job and is fairly straight forward. All the best to you and enjoy your Rickenbacker!

  • Fender amp?

  • @SydbarF Yes it's a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 4-10.

  • Harry-it was the 370/6 they discontinued. I believe they also dropped the 340/6. The 370/12 is still available-or as available as any new Rickenbacker, I guess. Rumor is they are two years out on orders.

  • Thanks Buddy It makes my decision much easier.. BTW are you aware if they have indeed stop making the 370-12? I have been told they no longer make it.

  • I have listened to almost all of your music and you are good. IN your opinion which Rickenbacker is the best one to get to get the BYRDS sound? I have been inundated with so many opinions it is confusing to say the least,as well I have been told they no longer make the 370-12... what do you say Buddy?

  • @harryhick Roger McGuinn played a 370-12 as I am sure you know. I think you can get the Byrds soud with a 360-12 or a 370-12 when plugged into the right amp with some compression. The 370-12 may be a little closer to the original Byrds sound. With both guitars, I prefer the vintage toaster pickups. My personal favorite Rickenbacker guitar is the 360-12.

  • excellent playing.....Do music when you retire .......you will make people happy.......

  • @intell58 Thanks!

  • yea baby

  • Buddy ~ You are a terrific gutiar player. Perhaps if it had been you, instead of McGuinn, who bumped into Gene Clark and Chris Hillman back in the middle 1960's we'd think of you in the context of the greatest rock 'n roll group to originate from L.A. at that time. I've always felt that although Clark was the father of the Byrds Roger McGuinn was the driving force that

sustained their music, sound and success. Sometimes it IS only time, place and circumstance. Please keep posting Buddy.

  • Buddy ~ You are a terrific gutiar player. Perhaps, if it had been you, rather than McGuinn, who ran into Gene Clark and Chris Hillman back in the middle 60's we'd think of you in the context of the Byrds; the greatest 60's rock n' roll group ever to originate from L.A. Sometimes it is nothing more than time, place and circumstance. Clark was the father of the Byrds but McGuinn was ALWAYS the driving force behind their music, sound and success. Thanks for YOUR music, I do enjoy it very much.

  • Thanks for the kind words. Honestly, I'm no where near the level of player that Roger McGuinn is...but I'm lucky if I get an hour or two a week to sit down and play. In a few years, I hope to retire, and maybe then I'll have time to sit down and develop into a decent player. I agree with you about Roger McGuinn being the driving force behind the Byrds. The sound and style he played with on that Rickenbacker 370-12 has never really been surpassed on that guitar in my opinion.

  • Hello my good sir. I'm a long time fan and I think I have commented before, but not sure. Beautiful playing as always on this great song. I'm hoping you do know the band REM. The guitarist Peter Buck also is a Rickenbacker user and have you ever done any covers of them before? Thanks!

  • Thanks! I know of REM and I may do a few covers down the road. Mike Mills from the band once showed up at my brother's townhouse in Wilmington, NC and hauled him and a mutual friend around town for the weekend while he was in town for the wedding of a mutual friend. My brother said he was very nice and very down to earth. -BC

  • HAHA!!! Really! Thats amazing! He get his number!? And I heard the whole band is the same way, but it's great to have some real proof. And I gotta say, rarely will someone comment back on their own video. I applaud your dedication to your viewers.

  • I bet you haven't covered The Smiths though. Have a go. Johnny Marr is a genious with or without a Rick. Girl Afraid and This Charming Man sum up his skill,

  • Maybe down the road I'll cover some of that stuff...but I'm not a huge fan of The Smiths. I have to agree with you about Johnny Marr who is certainly a fine guitarist. -BC

  • Hey Buddy, can you please explain how you get the consistant fingerpicking throughout the solo?

You sound great and so does your guitars. I have a 360/12 with hi-gains and it sounds nowhere near that good, well good in the sense of what we think a Rick should sound.

    Take care, Ben.

  • Thanks Ben! I really don't know how to explain what I did picking wise other than I used a flat pick and finger picks when I did this cover. My Rickenbackers all have the Vintage Toaster Reissue Pickups and I used the compressor on my Yamaha DG Stomp. The amp was a Fender Hot Rod DeVille tube amp...and that's about it. High Gain pickups have a good sound but not quite the "jangle" of the Toasters...in my opinion. It all comes down to what you want I suppose. Thanks for watching. -BC

  • McGuinn : Ric 12 :: Hendrix : Stratocaster

  • Hey BC.. I see that you have 360/12 Rics with Toasters where do you get the pickups since they dont come with the guitars?? I can not find them anywhere.. The 360/12 with 3 pickups (R McGuinn) can those be made to have the same jangle/chime for beattle music??

  • The Rickenbacker guitars can be purchased with Toasters already installed from the Factory...and those models at least used to be designated "VP" for Vintage Pickup....for example 360-12VP. The McGuinn Model is a tough one to acquire but it is essentially a 370-12(3-pickup model) with a built-in onboard compressor. The Vintage Toaster Reissue pickups can be purchased directly from the Rickenbacker Factory in California...for about $150/each. They sound great! -BC

  • Wake that freak flag high!

  • Hi Buddy, Greetings from Ireland. I'm a bit crazy when it comes to collecting guitars, have 12, 4 strats, 2 teles, 2 Gibsons,Taylor, Tak , resonator, Line6,..I want a RICK..!!!. I'm thinking about the 12 after listening to you..love the artwork..visted the site.Keep up the good work! Dave

  • Thanks Dave! Check out the other version of this tune I posted also. -BC

  • wow if you really play by ear im SUPER impressed... thats insane

  • Totally by ear... -BC

  • Hi Buddy,

I'd really love to have you give a lesson on this one... You're all over the neck and I'd love to know just what you're playing (I'm sure others would agree). As a novice Ricky 12-string player, it would be great information to have. What do you say?

  • Thanks! The only problem with me giving anyone a lesson is that I play by ear...so I'd probably need a translator to do the technical analysis on what I am actually doing. I don't even think about chords or notes most of the time. To me, it's all about sound, nuance, phrasings, and patterns. If I ever learn to play properly, I'll do some lessons but I am an unconventional player to say the least. I just play what I hear. -BC

  • Buddy!

    SING THE SONG! :)

How much different would it sound through a Vox AC-30?

    Cheers!

  • Thanks!...but my focus on these videos is guitar...although eventually, when I get back in playing shape, I'll probably sing on a video or two...LOL -BC

  • wow...ur really good at this no joke ^^

  • Thank You! -BC

  • Excellent. And I mean excellent.

  • Thank You! -BC

  • Very nice playing. I love the sound of the Rickenbackers. The more vids you upload with a Ric the better :) 5*

  • Thanks! -BC

  • this is really good you are a excellent guitarist i think i am gonna learn this song now!

  • cool

  • Great cover. Do you use two thumb picks like Roger McGuinn or are you individually picking each note on the solo?

  • On this particular video, I used a flat pick and a finger pick to play most of the song...especially during the solo. Thanks for watching! -BC

  • Hi Buddy,

Lovely cover. I'm very impressed with your work. I'm a novice guitarist; I just acquired a new Ric 660-12 string ( a fabulous guitar, I think) and have managed to play a pared-down version of this great Byrds piece, but it's not anything like yours. How long did it take you to learn that piece so well? Do you give on-line lessons like Goldhat does? I think you'd have very high demand and much appreciation from hundreds of novice guitarists like me... Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks! This song didn't take too long to learn as it is fairly simple(at least the way I play it). Roger Mcguinn is the true master. It just takes a while to get used to the feel of the Ric 360-12's neck, which is narrower than the neck on your guitar. It forces you to play more precisely...but I love Rickenbacker guitars and their sound. I play by ear. At this time I am not giving any lessons although I may do a few eventually. Thanks for watching. Share the videos with a friend. -BC

  • Great job Buddy. Turn Turn Turn is a timeless classic. You mentioned you may post a video of changing your 360/12 pickups from high gains to toasters. I have a 360/12 Midnight Blue Rickenbacker of which I would love to do the same. I would love to see how it is done.Thanks. Your videos are great.

  • Thanks! It is really quite simple to change out the pickups. Of course you want to be careful not to damage the finish, etc. on that beautiful Ric while you are making the change. I'll try to get that video together and up soon. Thanks for taking the time to watch the videos! -BC

  • thankslove the byrds, love the rickenbacker, love the vid.ive also uploaded a byrds cover today its get to you.

  • Thanks! I'll check it out. -BC

  • awesome job bud......is that song normally played on a 12 string , cause it sounds good on a six string ....bud what sound is that you have setup .sounds just like the album........or maybe i have to get a Rickenbacker guitar or will a strat get the same sound.thnks rick

  • This song was originally played by Roger McGuinn of The Byrds on a Mapleglow Rickenbacker 370-12 which is essentially the same guitar I am playing except it had 3 Toaster Pickups instead of 2 like my Ric 360-12. The sound is from the guitar and the amp. I am using some compression on the guitar but that distinct chime you hear is all Rickenbacker. I have several Fender Strats and I love them...however, they will not sound like a Rickenbacker which is what this music was played on. Thanks! -BC

  • That was just awesome!

  • Thanks! -BC
