  • All Victorians do is complain

    SHUT UP

  • BUT YOUTUBE "Premier's Sales Pitch" to see a very very limited video rendering of Barangaroo... (it looks good - but where can we see the rest of the development?)

  • We would like something better than the Melbourne Docklands for Barangaroo. The Docklands are not a shocking mess, but it's not spectacular either. It would be a tragic wasted opportunity n Sydney if Barangaroo came off like the Melbourne Docklands - I don't think anyone, in their right mind would dispute this..

  • Do a little research on Marina Bay Sands and you'll see. So again, instead of being conservative and complaining to reduce and remove, we should do the excact opposite; we should be bolder, be innovative and "make a statement". If you want Barangaroo to become a dead zone like how this video wants us to believe the Docklands is, do it the 'Friends of Barangaroo' way and complain about reducing and removing everything. In the end, a very, very misleading video.

  • Singapore's new but already proving to be successful Marina Bay development, and in particular, Marina Bay Sands, would be one of the many great examples. Yet, being so privatised, being over 200 metres tall and with little open space, why is it successful? Simple; it's truly groundbreaking and Out Of The Ordinary, a principle which is what the docklands needs and what we what we need to at Barangaroo too. The same winning formula which worked for any icon of the world (Opera House, etc)

  • Think about it. If we keep reducing and removing everything, then what's the point of going to Barangaroo when we could find it in the suburbs or the existing city? Instead, we need to complain about Barangaroo the other way; it needs to make a statement and while there's a hotel there which, as you can see, is aiming to go that way, we still need more and in particular, bolder.

  • But in today's world, if we want it to be a truly successful, attention-grabbing destination, something we can be proud of and use to sell our city to the world, we'll have to go even futher than the current plans. Removing and reducing like what here at FoB wants to do to Barangaroo will only help to make it more of a forgettable, 'dead zone', as the video "proved".

  • Yep, agreed. There's too little at the Docklands. Nothing much there, it lacks innovation and isn't really groundbreaking. Much too conservative and nothing interesting, as you can see. Good thing though is that the Docklands is still a w...ork in progress, and it should improve in the future. Now at Barangaroo, Lend Lease's design is more interesting than the original Thalis plan, so that's already a change for the better.

  • Lend Lease is an internationally reputable development company that has worked on projects in Asia (including the city defining KLCC/Petronas Towers project in Kuala Lumpur), the UK (working on aspects of the Olympics site in London) and (of course) Australia. To single out one project, yet to be completed, and show the views of those who dislike it at present is a pretty poor and unprofessional way of voicing your objections to a different project with different architects in a different city.
