  • I can hear WBEN most evenings from buffalo. I've never heard of this Jimbo guy, though.

  • I may have ended up on KDKA? But maybe not I just checked and Jimbo is on WBEN also, starts at 10pm. Thanks.

  • Really neat radio. I could live without JimBo, but that's just me..LOL

  • I need to use my transmitter more. Thanks.

  • That is cool! I have never seen one of those before. About what year do you think it's from? :) JC

  • Thanks. It is unusual. The earliest I have seen is 1947, the document says pre 1949.

  • where is Jim bohannon on in the triangle.

  • That station was somewhere between 1020 to 1120 KHz. So it was not a local station. I just checked KDKA 1020 and that is probably what was playing, Jim Bohannon is on KDKA.

  • Rick,

Cool radio. I've found it referred to as an "Emerson Red Translucent Midget". It's from 1947.

There were several 547A cabinet styles and colors. In 2006 a 547A with a creme/ orange marble cabinet sold for $125.00 on Radio Attic. I also found someone selling the photofact for $14.00. Pretty steep.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hey John,

Thanks for the information that is very helpful. Now that I know the name I found it described as extremely rare and fragile. It was sold and they did not a price.

    Regards,

    Rick

  • That is truly a beautiful radio whoever designed the look of this radio with the transparent red plastic really had a sense of style that was way ahead of their time.

  • Thanks. I'm not sure where or when I bought it, but I thought how unusual. It really does display nicely.

  • That is a beautiful radio. Did this type of plastic ever get used much in radio's? I know early plastics tended to break fairly easy.

  • Thanks. I think that this plastic is not up to the standards that Emerson would use for radios sold to the public. So that is why I believe it was a display model. But I just dont know. It is pretty flimsy plastic.

  • Not very many exist with a perspex case...

  • I thought it was very unusual, but I have no way to know how rare it might be. Thanks.

  • The minute I saw that dial light flare, I knew it was an AC/DC model. :-)

  • Yep that is a dead give-a-way, lol.

  • Interesting. I like that.

  • Thanks, I could not pass this one by.
