The new religion is here. More grants for scientist who get in the global warming wagon and more $ for progressive govts taxing you as per what the scientists priests say. A religion where everyone gets paid AMEN!!!
Evidence is great. Usually a picture of a traffic jam, this video brings smoke (they usually show hurricane videos) Keepin' it fresh!
The transfer of green technology to developing countries is in principal a good thing as we want to encourage sustainable development, but we also have to get out own house in order and encourage the use of green techology in our own homes including generous grants for micro generation.
International Technology Transfer? I don't like the sound of that... can be used to no good, and its obviouse the treaty is being used for that purpose.
@pwolff1177 just wondering, did you grow up in a religious family? because that's the only thing i can think of that would dissuade you from perceiving the truth of evolution.
nothing can be proven, the essence of existence is uncertainty but using inference and induction we can create an idea which we can say is the most likely explanation for an occurrence
the theory of evolution is an idea that, so far, most likely explains the progression of biological entities
until you find something that is not self-contradictory that gives a better explanation, then there is no reason to hold another explanation as higher truth
all these issues we have right now were caused by "globalization". now we got to solve them so we try to "teach" them how to solve them. ridiculous. we are at the point again before colonization started at the end/begininig of the century. if you think you are jesus to save the world, better get rid of the idea, since the christianity itself is causing the world to be destroyed. because of that, the brain-washed and once colonized 3rd world countries have no ability to think by themselves.
i'm against globalization. I'm against american or european companies go to 3rd world countries, and build the factories there. I'm against buying stuff that says the brand names of some american company but actually made in china, philipines, india,etc..
I like it. Kind of goes along the lines of a research paper I am doing for school. Do geopolitical borders hinder biosphere sustainability? So far, I getting only yes and maybe. No valid opposing view points. I might have to change my thesis statement or just use this as a strong conclusion to make a point.
I'm not sure what you are trying to do by this smoking analogy, but what needs to be done here, simply, is for the developed contries to give up the cheap labors and running factories in the 3rd world. Leave them alone and let them develop their own technology.
Man, I used to love smoking so much... but enough about that... um... I'm not sure that the analogy completely stands up.
What is the secret that isn't be shared? Surely the way that the global economy works is that every country that "gives up" smoking are really just getting people in other countries to smoke twice the amount and send the nicotine over... well as you can see the complexities on this one mess up any attempt at analogy with smoking. Good effort though. Nicely edited etc...
"Several measures to overcome Intellectual Property Rights barriers have been on the table for a long time including patent buy-outs, reduction of tariffs on sale of technologies, a global clean-energy venture capital fund, transfer of technologies to public domain, licensing schemes with reduced duration of intellectual property rights, and flexible technology transfer mechanisms. However, these have not come up for serious discussion yet in any international forum."
Whatever you do, you need to be sure you don't discourage private enterprise from developing green technology.
That is, if a private company develops a technology, and then the government declares it is 'public domain' and takes away their patent, or forcefully buys it out (for less than it's worth, otherwise force is unnecessary), you may get an immediate gain at the long term cost of companies avoiding green technology development for this reason.
good question. Considering most of our government's behavior is lobbied for by corporations, the line may not be so distinguishable. I can tell you that the people I've personally heard speak discouragingly about this issue were representatives from the World Bank (who are currently funding new coal projects) and past US administrations who are still part of the legislative dialogue.
private companies may hold IP rights to a specific technology, but it's govt and govts in general that have yet to come together and provide the right framework for the sharing and distribution. to quote:

Plomomedia 2 years ago
you mean the theory of evolution?
pwolff1177 2 years ago
right, like the theory of gravity.
Plomomedia 2 years ago
very big difference! and you know it. But it seems it doesn't take much to sway the herd one way or another just need a keen shepherd.
Gravity exists but cant be explained.
Darwins evolution can be explained but not proven to exists. well at least not in multi-celled organisms.

indeed. "knowledge spillovers" are an integral part of technology transfer for climate change mitigation.

Who owns the technology that is refusing to share it? Is it the state? Or private companies?
