  • HE WAS SMALL! then he took an arrow to the knee

  • How much did thay pay thé small Guy to fight thé big Guy

  • Can someone please tell me what logan12342267 said???

  • is there any technique involved in this fight..or is it just wild flailing of weapons? doesnt look like much technique is executed here

  • NOT YELLING AMIGO, JUST ALWAYS TYPE IN 'HIGH CASE' DON'T WORRY, SOME OF MY FRIENDS PULL ME UP ABOUT IT TOO. GUESS I DON'T PAY MUCH MIND TO SUCH THINGS.

  • AN AXE IS A SCARY WEAPON, THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT IT IN THE HUMAN CONDITION, ALONG WITH FEAR OF SNAKES AND SPIDERS, WE'VE ALL HEARD OF THE MAD AXE MAN? BUT I ENJOYED THIS, THE GUY WITH THE AXE KNOWS HOW IT WORKS! EVEN IF THIS WAS JUST FOR FUN!

  • @scroogesong1 WHY ARE YOU YELLING?

  • 0:32 "Americans..."

  • The crazy berserker screams are what made this video fantastic instead of good.

  • press 9 over and over ^^

  • Well hey there Samwell Tarly

  • nice videos, not sure i'm crazy enough to fight around with full steel blades. but i do love me some weapons action! SCA fighter here.

  • @logan12342267 ...we also don't need uneducated idiots, and yet you morons are everywhere!

  • Comment removed

  • @logan12342267 Of course you don't get it... you're an idiot. If you could actually spell, and punctuate correctly when relaying a thought I might have gone a bit easier on you. This isn't texting your boyfriend, dumbass. If you want to make idiotic statements about someone's video, then at least proof read before hitting post. At least then your comments could stand on their own and not be subject to ridicule due to a lack of proper education. So yes, YOU are just another moron among many.

  • @skallagrimm

    Skall 1, retards 0

  • @logan12342267 we also dont need boring dumbfucks without hobbys like you

  • @logan12342267 This may be the stupidest comment i've ever seen.

  • @logan12342267 Stupid joke if it is a joke, if it isn't you're down right retarded.

  • Why does that guy have such a small shield

  • @Nickkraw "My tummy is my shield"

  • I have to say. That was pretty bad ass

  • How did the Rus lost his shield? The camera didnt get this. Some Questions:

Are you able to bring the head of your axe behind the shield and just pull it away? (when the axe get jammed behind it) And if this works, are you able to make an attack afterwards? Would you bring yourself in a risky situation with that (with no possibility to block, while his sword may attack you)?

Is this long-axe in this design a historic weapon? Are there archaelogical founds somewhere? lG

  • @Z0tteltier it's hard to see cuz I'm in the way, but I caught him on the left shoulder, which is why he drops shield (part of our rule system). Yes, hooking the shield to get behind it and then thrust is the idea. There are many ways to defend yourself once hooked. Using the haft or the backshield gives the longaxeman a chance to block... and wearing maille takes away the little slashes and pokes. And of course it's an historic weapon... that's what we do. It is from late Viking period.

  • @skallagrimm There are just few informations about this weapon on the internet. Interesting weapon. I read on your channel that you are in a group which trains on those viking-age weapons. My question: Did you and your mates figure out the fighting-techniques by yourselfes or did you follow a "school"? There are some "swordfight-schools" around me, but they dont dont please me for several reasons. I think a fight consits of action and reaction so I dont think they teach sth I wouldnt think of.

  • @Z0tteltier

I can add some to what Skallagrimm says. First.. nice to see viking reenacment outside Europe ;)

Second I have to say that the longaxe is a nasty weapon to confront in the hands of a skilled user. In a shieldwall it can be used to block spears aswell but a nice feature is to pull down the shield of an opponent and let one of your buddies do the kill ;) or just push the axe and try and go fo the chest hit. I can recommend searching videos from moesgaard and trelleborg :)

  • @Z0tteltier Yes you can hook it. The old brits (pre-hastings) used this thing called a billhook to hook back the shiled and then thrust into chest. That long axe looks perfect to do something similar.

  • why do big shawn always loose!!!!! tsk

  • so the rus guy is using a more mid eastern style samshir as opposed to a rus style sabre?

is that how fighting always goes down, its just that ive been in the NVG about 5 -6 months, and i saw my group perform display combat for the first time only a wek ago.. it was scary to say the least.

  • how heavy is the HEAD of the longaxe out of criosity, and how long is the shaft?

  • @elgostine ...I've never weighed them, but would guess a couple pounds and the haft should stand as tall as the users chin...

  • @skallagrimm ive felt tempted to treat the daneaxe like a swiss halberd or some very long shield hooking contraption

as opposed to an axe, i was thinking of making MINE to head height i.e 6 foot

the reason i ask about head weights is that majorly excellent arms maker from vaustralia, where im from) sells daneaxes and swords and stuff, a good mjority are sold for the purpose of reenactment, rebated edges etc,

the only problem is he never or very rarely lists the weight of the object

  • Well @elgostine, they certainly are effective for hooking shields, arms, legs, and weapons. I would only point out that as a longaxe in the Viking Age, it is not yet a longer halberd... it can't be too long, or you take away it's maneuverability... and that is it's strong point. No pun intended.

As for weight, I can say most rebated weapons are heavier than a sharp counterpart, but not by much, usually.

  • @skallagrimm or poleaxe, whichever, i tried a daneaxe that was only about 4 foot or so (first time admittedly), that wasnt fun against sword/ shield, (back in april my first taste of viking combat used one hand axe and shield, i think i did better that time)

im otherwise going to treat the daneaxe as a quarterstaff with one end thats slightly heavier than another

how long have you been reenacting out of curiosity? ive said it 1000 times that you seem really skilled.

  • @elgostine I appreciate that, thank you. I've been doing this since about 1994. I enjoy being able to share insights and give advice where I can. As for the use of the longaxe, you are more correct using it as a staff-like weapon. It was meant to be mobile and kept moving...

    Best of luck to you!!

  • @skallagrimm yes, considering most of the people in the new varangian guard (i tracked down my local garrison leader after you made mention of them) alot of them have been in it as long as you have, ill need all the luck i ca get, when i asked ou to describe reenactng in one word.. im sticking with painful >.< due to the number of times i get hit.

speaking of which peter beatson, who has a few articleson byzantine/ rus works justreleased a new page on vambrace design and splinted armour.

  • @skallagrimm (cont) reason i say that is, naturally as is likely the case in the skjaldborgs, there are weight limits for heads, and the legal weight for a daneaxe head shrinks as the shaft grows, goingfrom 4 lbs for a 2 ft haft, to 2lb's for a 5 foot haft, and justt under 1 1/2 lbs for a haft thats any longer than 5 foot.im going for 6 foot, (head hieght)

which is why im tryingto see the common figures for daneaxe head weights, to possibly guess how heavy the manning imperial heads will be

  • battle nerds

  • What's that shorter saber looking blade the bigger fellow pulls out after you rid him of his shield and axe? Is it some form of seax?

  • @Frost2k6 that would be his Eastern style sword, called a shamshir.

  • reminds me of mount and blade warband

  • Lets make fun of people who are well trained in using very leathal weapons?

I never willl understand this kind of person. Swordplay is a true man's sport, not like that pussy game you guys call football.

  • @Catachan1brainleaf ... they absolutely do exist, ya just need to look in the right place and the right way. Sounds like you have the right idea, but saying there is no such thing, is blantantly incorrect.

  • hey lets fight with real weapons with limited body armor. yeah that's a good idea.

  • @icansplayguitar2 ... it's a great idea compared to using sticks or soft toys and calling them weapons.... and not being a pussy is important.

  • @icansplayguitar2 How is their armour limited? They're quite well protected for this sport. Additionally these two appear to know what they're doing, thus further reducing the risk of injury greatly. So please stop being a douchebag.

  • I've been looking for an accurate long axe for a long time and had no luck, but it looks like you came up with one.

  • This is sickening, I mean that guy is only fighting for food not because he is evil:(

  • keep clicking 31 seconds :)

  • @Oblivionmad111 ,yeh very funny i like it

  • lol ingenious!!

  • this guy is having a blast! :D Whoooow! hhahah awesome

  • He had a hard time piercing the fatty's winter blubber

  • Press 2 to attack, press 8 for final hit, press 9 for VIRGINALITY!

  • ITS FRANCIS

  • roflmao keep clicking at :31 over n over again XD

  • Player 2 didn't need a shield, he wore the legendary Lipidic Armour.

  • Is my computer the only one with a spell checker? It's whale, not wale, and virgin not virgen.

  • @orcslayer006 I know, right!? You just have to consider the source with most of 'em....

  • 0:31

    Sheesh, take it easy guys.

  • are there any in wv or pa

  • @MrRomesdefender Hmm, that im not sure of. WV and PA are pretty much Dagorhir states. "Role Models" type stuff.

  • @NegativeTelecaster Yes and No. the weapons are much the same, but we have no hit points, no magic, no kings. The intensity of the fighting varies depending on the location, but it's not a tap based sport.

  • @CentrawovenDagorhir Well, the weapons in this are made of steel, not cardboard. The armor is metal, not plastic and carpet padding. No offense to your group. I was just using layman terms. Most people wouldnt know Dagorhir. Gotta use a big name reference.

  • @NegativeTelecaster If you think Dag weapons are cardboard and the armor is plastic and carpet padding I can see why you would think that. And no offense was taken, I simply found it an interesting comparison that I wasn't quite sure was in the correct vein. Either way, the weapons are much similar to the ones used in Role Models, from what I've heard. Never watched it myself.

  • Yeah well I bet you don't have boots of escaping!

  • Whoa, look at the size of that target...

  • What European Sword school are you guys in? ARMA?

  • @Tneisnart wow, that's a new one... have never been asked that. We are freelancers, and do this on our own accord. I was shown the 'fives' 18 years ago, by a guy from England, and we've made our own way ever since. We have started working on later German and Italian longsword study,... on our own.

  • @skallagrimm i think eh was trolling you...

  • Netter abgesprochener "Kampf". Aber gegen so einen Dickmops gewinnt jeder, der Füße hat.

  • @Wittekind1 no idea what you said but it doesn't sound good...

  • @skallagrimm lolz dickmops...

  • i came here to see the comments on the fat guy.

  • *grabs stomach* OOOF! No! Mercy!

  • I rather like it that it isn't choreographed.

    also, excellent axe technique!

  • Great Clip! But I didn't know Fryer tuck! was a Vikking???

  • cool video guys , fuck this stupid racist who call you fat , they are just fucking stupid as a shit

i was fat in my childhood and stupid retards like you insult me a lot

better fat than a stupid cocksucking retard

  • wow these are some seriously fat nerds.

  • Where is the battle axe? I don't see Hillary or Nancy.

  • great show guys, i have never actually seen a hook attack work on a shield bearer before, good job demonstrating

  • Why do you wear so much armor?

  • A Long Axe... Being used on a Fat Axe.

  • They are level 60 virgens.

  • @clubpenguinty that's not what your mom says...

  • @skallagrimm How original a "Your mom" joke. Never sw that comming.

  • @clubpenguinty : Seeing how a "your mom" joke can never actually be original, I doubt the intention of it was to be so. Rather, it was a way to show you that these men are professional fighters, and seeders of women. Specifically, your mother. I'm sure he would have been your dad, if a dog hadn't beaten him over the fence.

  • @Halofreakanoid VERY well said... thanks for clarifying that for me.

  • @skallagrimm : Anytime Skallagrimm!

  • @skallagrimm lol

  • @skallagrimm Winner Winner we have a winner here

  • @clubpenguinty says the guy with his name consisting of "club penguin."

  • @clubpenguinty Level 60 Guy-who-can't-use-3rd-grade-grammar

  • If you're going to have a stage fight on the film for the world to see. You should atleast have clean coreography...

  • @haruko619619 these fights are all done LIVE. None of this is choreographed, so what other brilliant insights do you have for us?

  • @skallagrimm

    Start doing choreographed fights.

I'm practicing nordic swordsfighting and i say: Improv is for practice and holmgang, choreographed is for when you have an audience and are fighting on a large area. On smaller areas as during a holmgang (I think that's what it is called in english, let me know if i should explain it in case of mistranslation) more interesting things can happen, but i'd still say choreographed is for audience! Absolutely no offence intended, just me giving tips.

  • Belittle the heavyset one all you like, but I think he was awesome.

Hey Skallgrimm, how do I get in on this? Do you hold seminars and stuff or is it a private club?

  • gotta love all the rtards commenting on this ...I think they're jealous..btw is this actually LARP? I'm guessing not, wouldn't come under that category here...

  • @tangocolt02 no, it is certainly not larp. We do demonstrations for museums, schools and libraries, ethnic organizations, as well as social clubs. We are professionals in what we do, both in historical lectures and live combat wearing minimal armor. I haven't seen anyone doing quite what we do... so, i can usually ignore most of these retards. Its the hot heads that think they have something to prove... I'm niether impressed nor worried.

  • @skallagrimm Yeah I didn't think it was LARP, we do demonstrations of Roma Reenactment here in New Zealand :) 2nd Legio AVGVSTA

  • @skallagrimm I DOOOO!!!! ya but we are short on recruits

  • Huh. I never knew Jabba the Hutt was into SCA. The things you learn.

  • @Gurglingcod there are alot in the SCA, but this isn't SCA ya stupid fuckin douchebag... if ya wanna spit fire ya gotta be a lot brighter than a window licker...

  • @skallagrimm Oooh, big words, Sparky! I'm not sure which button I pushed; was it that you're a fat slob, a member of the SCA, or... WAIT! Are you one of the pathetic individuals flailing away uselessly in that video?! Oh ye gods, that's even better!! You must really be something with the ladies.

  • @Gurglingcod. Sparky?!? I'm not an electrician ya moron... and yes, I'm the guy kickin ass with the longaxe. You know, the one your Mom was telling you about. Tell her hi for me.

  • @skallagrimm Yes, Sparky, usually used in reference to a juvenile, a child, or in this case, an Oompa Loompa attempting to be scary. "I am Hrodgæir, and I have conquered this all you can eat buffet!!!" And indeed, the only way my mom would have warned me about you is as a cautionary tale on what sort of future I'd face if I ate poorly, never dated, and played with toy weapons in a field with Thorkell, defender of Ham, consumer of Twinkies.

  • @Gurglingcod wow, you are a thinker aren't ya? Come up with that all by yourself? I don't sweat idiots like you, so keep entertaining the rest of us with how little you understand. All talk with nothing to show for it,... just like a flamer. You poor, friendless thing.

  • @skallagrimm I don't know but he seemed to have your number. And I can't help notice that you're the fat fuck playing dressup with your chubby girlfriend. I'm more entertained by you, actually, but more in a point and laugh at the sad prick sort of way. Good luck with that man. I hear women totally dig fat guys in costumes.

  • @unchellmatt is another would be tough guy online. Tryin to put down everyone so his poor excuse of a life can have meaning. In fact, probably the same little gurgling bitch with a different channel... now that is pathetic even for a troll.

  • @Gurglingcod Dude, you're making fun of a LARPer. There is NOTHING you can say to make this loser and his fat friend seem more pathetic. That's like making fun of furries. Maybe one small step above furries, but still pretty fucking pathetic, regardless.

  • @unchellmatt it's almost entertaining how stupid you sound. Social networking gives you hives? Shit, you're a regular little fairy, aren't ya? With a channel like yours, you really think you can call ANYONE else pathetic.

  • @Gurglingcod So can we see clips of you doing better somewhere?

  • seems that you are the only one winning!! haha this looked so cool i just had to sub

  • where you from`?

im really interested in doing this also in a groupe.

how you get your weapons? are they normal wepaon just not sharp?

how expensive is a fuul equip? you make it all by yourself?

  • @Numira we are from Omaha, Nebraska. Basically the middle if the U.S. but we have alot of friends and members all over the country... as well as overseas. As for our weapons and gear, most of it is made within our group. My buddy and i make most of our weapons, other members make shoes, or clothes, jewelry, chainmaille,... you get the idea. With the viking period you can get by pretty cheap for a simple looking kit, then build on it over time by adding details like better weapons, jewelry,..etc.

  • @skallagrimm

Doing some viking reenactment combined with larp myself, I was wondering: most dane axes Ive come across have a shaft thats roughly 2 feet and 8 inches ( 80cm ), but yours seem longer. How long is your axe and what wood do you use for it? Interested in getting my hands on a proper dane axe as it were =)

  • is he fat or is he wearing like some kind of protective armour

  • ok does anybody pay to watch this?

  • @ButlerSONG We get paid to do it usually. There are some shows we do for free, but we normally appear at events that have an entry fee.... and we get paid for it.... why, is that a problem for you?

  • @skallagrimm not really, but I wouldn't pay for this lol

  • @ButlerSONG well good, since no one asked you to... but you watched it nonetheless, and took the time to comment, good or bad. Thanks for stopping by

  • fatty vs long axe!

  • It's cool that the Big dude played along towards the end there, lifting his hands up pathetically when the final axe blow came down. Good stuff.

  • i think the big guy lost.

    long live the axe!

  • With a long weapon you should not do single attacks one by one ô.o Trying to take the used power for the next attack by using a turn. (I use speer and staff)

  • Rather odd move by the longaxer. I mean that spin, that didn't seem to help him at all. :o Still pretty cool, though.

  • Thats the fattest viking alive

  • love how u didnt smash his shield to shit ive a nasty habit of putting dane axes through shields. Shield walls i tend to hook more but with 1 on 1 i just hit hard n hook when they recoil then just thrust for the kill

  • that was pretty cool

  • Pwnd

  • funny thing if it was for a real life combat who woulöd have attacked the shield i would go for the legs first lol

  • @AC2SGA most ppl actually dane axes were made to remove shields hence the massive beard. they were mainly for pulling shield walls apart

  • @kreeperrock hmm, alot of daneaxes I have seen atleast seem to have quite abit of upward sweep almost creating a stout tabbing tip, any reason for this?

  • @elgostine are you asking why daneaxes are shaped the way they are or why the one im using is'nt? A daneaxes characteristic upward sweep allows for a sweeping cut much like the curve of the katana...the axe I'm using in this video is NOT a daneaxe, but is a longaxe of the style that came after the daneaxe... the blade has points on top and bottom for stabbing and hooking with. Its closer to the later poleaxes that developed after the Viking age, closer to the Crusades.

  • @skallagrimm abit of both but you answered my question anyway, thanks.

  • that's the fattest norseman i've ever seen. he must've ate a lot of mutton.

  • This is great, imagining how the viking fought

  • The dude didn't have to use his axe, just roll over him...

  • Axeman has great flare with his movements, never having straight knees, i do prefer axes because you get more caught up in the moment charging in with reckless abandon :D

  • Comment removed

  • nice fight. I'd like to see more.

  • that guy is big

  • wow that big guy sure looks like he could rumble! cool vid.

  • Comment removed

  • Whatsup? I just recently subbed and ur vids ROCK, man! if its not too much trouble, would you mind telling me how Vikings put their shields on their back? Viking shields had a centergrip so it doesn't make much sense to me. I cant find it anywhere and i want to know because im writing a story on Vikings,

    Thanks in advance!

  • It's rather simple Tristan, though hard to see. It's simply a leather strap attached at both ends of the centergrip handle, near the ends. Usually with a buckle in the center so that it can be sized for the correct fit.

  • Thank you, that was very helpful! btw, do you guys ever come to Michigan by chance?

  • Well, we have some friends up that way who come to a couple of our events in Iowa. Perhaps we'll find an event up there to attend in the future....

  • Rus commes from the Finnish word ruotsi wich means swede(n) and the other guy looks like a varangian, so it's most likely they are both swede vikings. Maybe the trader ate the warriors mutton steak?

  • he sure moves for a fat guy! kick ass fight

  • He may be a lil pudgey, but boy can he fight, GO GUY IN BLUE!!! xD

  • HAHHAHA LEEEEET XD

  • You sound like Ric Flair's Medieval cousin!

  • i love the way you guys find the balance between safety and real fighting. if i need anyone to advise the bunch of hot-heads i know where i come from i'd ask you guys to help. thanks for posting!

  • it's must have felt like slaying a wale, cutting through all that fat...

  • HAHAHAHA

  • @flyingtoothpaste What an idiot...

  • he murderd him

  • damn, chopped up like veal cutlets

  • can he run 25km? I daubt. dont get me wrong, I like what you are doing in lighter armours and its preaty cool but fights in heawy armour is more difficulty and require much more endurance, eawen in light armour in longer fight he probably gets taired too soon. if you tell other way then I beliewe you are wrong. and what countru do you mean?

  • Big Shawn served in the U.S Military and was stationed in UK and was involved with 13-14 reenactment, and yes leaving the military he gained alot of weight but I tell you are wrong I bet you couldn't stand out very hot humid weather I bet you would fall flat on your face. Also don't get me you are probably a nice person but you make huge wrong assumptions about Shawn. Also if you can find armor big enough for him I am sure he would so you that he has the stamina and endurance. Since you in Pol

  • Count. Since you are in Poland see if you can watch somewhere the NFL football league in where the offensive line weight is about 330-345 lbs average for the linemen and they play for 3 1/2 hours. Just because he is in your mind fat doesn't mean he isn't healthy hence another obese athlete Sumo wrestler. Again we are a Viking group and armor was not the norm so if we want to be accurate in our depiction of viking warriors some of our members don't wear armor. Shawn plays our Rus Trader not warri

  • Count. Sorry but if you look at Skallagrimm's channel we are located in Omaha, Nebraska in the middle of the U.S.A in where our weather of extreme there is no medium for our weather. When its hot, its hot not a dry hot HUMID hot, when its cold its cold with lots of Ice. By the way what vids can you provide of your fighting and stamina prowess? Also I don't want to be mean if you are a serious reenactor or historic nut like us but again making huge wrong assumptions about our members doesn't giv

  • doesn't give you justice in who really might be. Talk to you later.

  • this "fights" are short so there is no way to tell. and you have a lighter armor than others group like 14-15 century and wher fights are for serious

  • Well if we did wear 14-15 cent. armor we could be "serious" as well. Since we portray the viking period where armor was not always worn so we have to sacrifice for safety by pulling blows right before body contact. There is away to tell is you fly out to the midwest in late July-Aug. when its nice and hot and humid and see who has the better stamina and endurance. My money is on big Shawn.
